The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart
Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood
I have Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld on audio from the library, ready to start on June 1.
I've also put the following on hold and if I'm able to get them in June, I'll read them as they come in:
Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley
The Mere Wife by Maria Dahvana Headley

BUT, if I could remember the mystery series I have read two books on with characters from Shakespeare, I'd check and see if the next one has been shelved retelling. I think I read one or both of them when I was doing a LOT of reading for games or even that summer I read so many books here.

The Preservationist - about Noah and the ark
Fallen - Cain and Abel
The Book of Samson - obvious ... :)
Please note that they are irreverent
Red Tent is a favorite, Secret Chord was fascinating (I had the opportunity to visit City of David last month, which was epic!)
Loved The Testament of Mary as well
The Goose Girl - young adult FULL CAST audio is fun! (actually probably younger than young adult ... still fun)
I may do Hood - I have the audio - seems to be my only option. I really wish they'd let us check books on our shelves with the tags. How hard would that be???

Have you read any of the Sherlock Holmes retellings? I have this one on my list: The Beekeeper's Apprentice.

Speaking of irreverent...
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal

I didn't enjoy Cinder by Marissa M..."
Good to know about Vinegar Girl... it has gotten pretty 'meh to 'blah reviews. I can tell it will be fast so I might fit in another Shakespeare retelling if I can.

Both Dorothy Must Die and Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West have arrived in audio at the library for me! (One digital and one CDs for in the car)
Guess I'll be traveling to Oz this month .....

There's no place like home, there's no place like home...

If I have time, Ayesha at Last just got put on my radar, and happens to be a retelling also. It comes out June 4th, and is touted as a Modern-Day , Muslim P&P. If I have time, I'd LOVE to squeeze this in also.

No. Is it differently written from the originals? I have only read one of his novels and didn't care for the writing very much. That said, we quite enjoyed the y/a Enola Holmes novels (his much younger sister) when my kids were the right ages (or at least one of them was).

* The audiobook is part of Audiosync Summer Series, so will be available for free download on June 20 (available to everyone, no International Restrictions) https://www.audiobooksync.com/
The Girl in Red by Christina Henry -- Little Red Riding Hood retelling
*This book releases on June 18
(author also wrote Alice - Alice in Wonderland retelling)

The Laurie R King books are a reimagining of Holmes with a female partner. (And Holmes is older.) They're set in the early 1900's and came to my attention when I was looking for fiction that included the women's suffrage movement. The second book in the series deals with it.

I'd be interested if we can get a buddy read together. I was going to read it with one of the classics groups, but I think I missed the window.

NancyJ - I set up the buddy read just now.

June Books Planned that are Retellings:

Great listings and mini-reviews. I second the Angela Carter in 2 of the lists.

I have been wanting to read this for a while now, and just never get around to it-Therefore I put it on my TRIM challenge for the 2nd half of the year-if it get called, I am than committed to read it. I am looking forward to your review

Thanks! I cobbled it together as I couldn't find a banner-length pic that fit the tag. At least now that I've figured out how to do it, I can create my own mastheads in the future!

It's wonderful. Somehow I knew you were responsible.

Great. I got my Trim book out of the way already, it was quick and wonderful. I need to finish a very long book with another group first, but if I'm lucky, by the time the new book comes in I'll be ready.

Cold Mountain
The Watch

Hearts in Atlantis
In honor of Tony Horwitz, I'm going to read his book Confederates in the Attic: Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War, which is essentially a retelling of a retelling, if you think about it. I SERIOUSLY doubt I'll have any extra time but if I do, I'll try to read Cold Mountain, as a companion to Confederates...

Mean Girls done in a Shakespearean iambic pentameter?! This could be the mash up of my dreams!

Charlie, what books or stories are these books retelling? I really liked the movie Cold Mountain, but I can't think of the story it's retelling.

Now, I have tooo many choices left to read before the end of the month. All of my library requests came in faster than predicted, not to mention the books already on my kindle that are getting great reviews here this month.
These are the titles that are making the most noise:
The King Must Die
Fire from Heaven
The Penelopiad
The Song of Achilles
Spinning Silver
Bitter Greens
I've already returned Educated ( for the 2nd time, isn't that sad) because I knew I wouldn't get to it.
I need a longer month.

I didn't enjoy Cinder by Marissa Meyer at all, so I won't be picking up the second in the series. Instead, I think I'm going to try either Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly or Tidewater by Libbie Hawker, which is a retelling of Pocahontas.
