30.8 - TessaVanessa's task: Double Up

Read 2 books with the exact same title. At least one of the books must be written by an author that shares a name with one of these Twin authors and Writers. The spelling of the name must be the same but the name may be in any position. One qualifying author in a work by multiple contributors will work. All title words count but subtitles, symbols, and punctuation may be ignored. An ampersand (&) may be used as a substitute for the word "and."
Required: Specify the twin author/writer's name you are using when you post.

Example:
These work:
Book 1: A Woman's Place by Lynn Austin
Book 2: A Woman's Place by Barbara Delinsky
Lynn Austin shares a name with Austin Grossman

Book 1: Heat Wave by Richard Castle
Book 2: Heat Wave by Jennifer Greene
Jennifer Greene shares a name with Jennifer Roy

They work.

message 8: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Just wanted to check that these work

The Sinner by Margaret Mallory
The Sinner by Kathleen O'Brien

Thanks

message 9: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 1295 comments I have already read one of these but I am searching for mine and thought I would share a pairing I came across that works:

Possession by A.S. Byatt
Possession by Ann Rule

message 10: by Bea (new)

Bea I have had difficulty with this task, just because the double I had been aware of among my owned books were 500+ pages each! As many people know, I have a bit of an issue about BIG BOOKS.

I finally decided to search for the short title of a book I know I plan to read...and came up with quite a number of options for that title. Many made it onto my Wishlist.

I ended up with:
Bone Deep [I own and planned to read already.]
Bone Deep

Nicole | 1295 comments just clarifying before I celebrate- this works right? :)

I am thinking:
Look at Me by Jennifer Egan
Look at Me by Anita Brookner

Yes they work

Brooke | 1419 comments For the author sharing a name requirement, would a contributor in a book by multiple authors work, or does it need to be a single author work?

A contributor would work

message 17: by Pam (last edited May 22, 2019 09:20AM) (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) I found 3 twin fiction books on my TBR:
- The Reader by Ali Smith and The Reader by Bernard Schlink
- Autumn by Ali Smith and Autumn by Karl Ove Knausgard
- Bliss by Peter Carey and Bliss by Katherine Mansfield (plus others)

Another option is non-fiction, if you don't mind reading about the same person or topic. Here are a few examples of titles that meet the author criteria and which have numerous books with the same title:
Ned Kelly: The Story of Australia's Most Notorious Legend by Peter FitzSimons
Alexander the Great by Philip Freeman
Wyatt Earp: A Vigilante Life by Andrew C. Isenberg.

message 18: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 1419 comments Just throught I'd throw the options from my TBR out there, because this is a tough one!

Palimpsest by Catherynne M. Valente
Palimpsest: A History of the Written Word by Matthew Battles

Provenance by Ann Leckie
Provenance: How a Con Man and a Forger Rewrote the History of Modern Art by Laney Salisbury

Wanderlust: A History of Walking by Rebecca Solnit
Wanderlust by Ann Aguirre

You by Caroline Kepnes
You by Austin Grossman

Aftermath by Chuck Wendig
Aftermath by Ann Aguirre

Selected Poems: 1965-1975 by Margaret Atwood
Selected Poems by Anna Akhmatova (or poet of your choice, most widely known poets have a "Selected Poems" available!)

Outpost by Ann Aguirre
Outpost by W. Michael Gear

Dominion by C.J. Sansom
Dominion by Peter McLean

Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve
Mortal Engines by Stanislaw Lem

Plus my personal choice:
Dark Currents by Lindsay Buroker
Dark Currents with contributor Andrew Hook
Dark Currents by Jacqueline Carey is also a good choice!

Tess (tessavanessa) | 2114 comments You guys rock sharing all these titles!!!

message 20: by Bea (new)

Bea Reading all these lists inspired me to check my own WISHLIST (TBR for book I do not own).

The Traitor's Wife: A Novel of the Reign of Edward II
The Traitor's Wife

The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music
The Music Lesson

Bone Deep
Bone Deep
Bone Deep

That's all I found out of the 900+ books on that shelf.

Yes

message 23: by Bea (last edited Jun 02, 2019 04:04AM) (new)

Bea Shoot! None of my options mentioned above have an author match. Dang!!!

Back to the drawing board.

message 24: by Heather(Gibby) (new)

Heather(Gibby) (heather-gibby) | 1307 comments I just wanted to double check if it is ok to use a book written by one of the twin authors as one of your options, specifically I was thinking of You by Austin Grossman

Yes that would work.

message 26: by Jukka (new)

Jukka Särkijärvi (nitessine) | 718 comments To play the rules lawyer a bit, given the naming scheme of the Assiti Shards series, would they be okay?

For instance, we have...
1635: The Eastern Front by Eric Flint
1635: Cannon Law by Eric Flint & Andrew Dennis (Andrew Dennis shares a name with Andrew Sean)
1635: The Dreeson Incident by Eric Flint & Virginia DeMarce
1635: Papal Stakes by Eric Flint & Charles E. Gannon

I do realize this probably runs against the intent of the task, but there's dozens of these.

These would work for one of the selections as long as the other one had an author match on the list.
