I’m looking for sci fi book recs that are long and awesome. I’m reading the expanse (it’s super cool) and I was wondering if there is another epic space opera series that you guys would recommend. I haven’t read much sci fi other than Old Mans War, and The Expanse. I also read The Three Body Problem and those were also excellent. Thanks in advance.

My 3 long-time favourites are Dune by Frank Herbert (only the books by him), Dan Simmons' Hyperion, David Brin's Uplift War series.
Definitely can second Dune! You also might wanna look into The Night's Dawn trilogy starting with The Reality Dysfunction. Another one is the Red Rising trilogy (the space stuff picks up with book two). And not to forget the Heechee Saga starting with Gateway!
Scott Westerfeld has an interesting duology that starts with The Risen EmpireAnne Leckie's Imperial Radch books, which start with Ancillary Justice, is another very good space opera.
I think you'll probably enjoy Bujold Lois McMaster Vorkosigan Saga, which has SO many books,
I have several recs from series that I enjoyed. The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell that starts with Dauntless
The Sten series by Allen Cole and Chris Bunch that starts with Sten
The Bobiverse series by Dennis E Taylor that starts with We Are Legion (We Are Bob)
The Poor Man's Fight series by Elliott Kay that starts with Poor Man's Fight
All of the above are science fiction series that verge into the military sci-fi genre.
Don't forget the Vatta's War series, starting with Trading in Danger, by Elizabeth Moon. I found it totally engaging, even though I'm not into military, or intrigue, or long series. (My husband, who actually is into all that stuff, also enjoyed and recommends this series.)I own all, and have loved some, of the League of Peoples series by James Alan Gardner, starting with Expendable. I'm trying really hard to set aside time to focus on the series as a whole because I know that I'll love it even more if I read in order from the beginning.
I also would recommend Alastair Reynolds REVELATION SPACE trilogy and Richard Morgan’s TAKESHI KOVACS trilogy.
I second the Sten series and the Bobiverse series. Also, check out the Murderbot novellas:
All Systems Red
Artificial Condition
Rogue Protocol
Exit Strategy
If we're talking about epic space opera, I've gotta push the Honor Harrington series by David Weber.
I second the Ancillary Justice recommendation above. Not only is the story good, the cultural observations are alien but believable (always wearing gloves) and the writing style is so dense and layered that you find yourself re-reading each sentence in order to reveal new meaning behind the preceding one - over and over gain. It's a real demonstration of craftsmanship.I've heard that Anne Leckie's new book is pretty bad, sadly.
Now that I’ve finished the Vorkosigan saga by Lois McMaster Bujold, I can definitely recommend those. It’s 17 or 18 books, depending on how you count novellas, and it spans a good 50 years and three generations. There’s a recommended reading order by the author here: https://www.goodreads.com/story/show/... I didn’t strictly follow that because of the availability of library books and when the requests came in, but I was pretty close.

Since people already recommended Dune, I liked the series The Saga of the Seven Suns which started with Hidden EmpireI was recommended Empire of Silence too.
