R18: Team #15 ~ Better Read than Dead

Glad you enjoyed that series, Melissa. I listened to them when moving to / unpacking in Australia, so they’ll always make me think of my move there. 😁
Great review, Jothany! There’s no set way to write them, just like Sandra said, all we’re looking for are your thoughts on it. Glad you enjoyed the start to The Others. That’s a favorite of mine (and many others around SOS).

Shelf: Dark Urban Fantasy
Book: Rosemary and Rue
Author: Seanan McGuire
Series: October Daye
Date Finished: 3/19/19
Rating: ★★★★
How it fits: Shelved 2x; 346 pgs
Review: One of the best things about bingo is that it forces me to read books that have been on my TBR for way too long. Rosemary & Rue is one of those books. Every time I would pick it up, something about the cover would make me say "Meh." and put it back down. Then, I would see a review on my timeline and think, "Hey, that sounds interesting." but, I still wouldn't read it. I'm stubborn like that.
Now, I didn't love Rosemary & Rue but I couldn't put it down. There was kind of a lot of stuff to wade through to get to what I wanted to know. Who killed Evening? Well, I had to wait until the second to last chapter to find out. I didn't guess ... I'm sure others could have but I was kinda blindsided. (view spoiler)
Random thoughts:
Tybalt is by far, the most interesting character in the book. So little is revealed about him. I am dying to know more about him.
What's going to happen to the kids at Home?? Is Toby going to take responsibility for them??
I am not a fan of Connor. At. All. Even if your wife is a psycho, she's still your wife, man. Cheating is not cool.
I think that a lot of the players are more complex than Toby gives them credit for. I would much rather see the multidimensional facets of their character than live through another info dump. Like, what's up with the Queen? What happened to Luna & Rayseline? What were Simon & Oleander up to? What's the deal with Amandine? And, I need to know more about the Luidaeg!
So, yeah, definitely going to continue to follow October Daye. Hoping that book 1 is just setting up the rest of the series.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

That’s what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. So I’ll be reading Vampire Academy for this shelf. I should have my free space book done by Friday or Saturday (aiming for Friday)

Answered in the negative on the discussion thread. As Melissa said, you can't start reading a book till the shelf is called.

Demon's Dance by Keri Arthur
Series: Lizzie Grace #4
Shelf: Paranormal (https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/users...)
Read: 22 Mar
Rating: ✮✮✮½
Review:
Desperation is the mother of invention. In Demon's Dance we finally learn more about Lizzie and Belle's past, why they ran and continue to hide from family in Canberra. We also see her continue to survive because of her ability to think on her feet and think outside the box. She may not be the strongest, as she's frequently reminded by a new witch in town, but she's definitely the one I'd want on my side in the fights that keep popping up in the reservation.
For me, learning about Lizzie's past and her growing relationships were the best parts of this installment. The baddie was interesting and the "remains" were creepy, but the solve felt a bit lackluster in the end. Nevertheless, I'm thoroughly enjoying this series and looking forward to Wicked Wings.

Yay on our stamp request, but I won't be able to upload those for a bit. Hope to be able to before/by Tues tho.

Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews
Series: Hidden Legacy #1
Shelf: Free space
Rating: 4 stars
Date finished: 3/22/19
Review: First off, I just have to say...I love Grandma Frida!! She is so freaking cute and funny lol
I love how Nevada is so family oriented, and that the women in the family (well the older ones) can definitely look after themselves. The males happen to be younger. Nevada and Rogan are a mess lol their banter and just interactions all around I just loved. I just loved all the characters except two, but it was meant for me not to like at least one of them. The other I saw just personal preference. Will definitely continue the series (hopefully there is more Bug) and will definitely continue to read more by Ilona Andrews

Shelf: Paranormal

Review:
Another good one in the series. A fairy war is on the horizon she meets someone that she didn't know she was related to. And of course is pulled into the whole mess. Another big thing that happened is now the shifters are coming out like the vampires... about time right. Of course problems occur that again Sookie gets pulled into. A lot of love and hate go into these books which I guess works for them. It seems like every time Sookie turns around another person hates her as much as loves her. I know she is weirded out by Eric and the bond but I like them together. I hope things work out, and he doesn't try to push things to much. Bill is still there in the background (where he needs to stay) I hope. There was a lot that was going on in this book.

Review: This was totally cool and I wish I could have read it as a serial! I bet that was a ton of fun for the fans.
> Dina is freaking fantastic. I love The Gertrude Hunt and little Beast. Her broom was totally B.A. I really hope she finds her family!
> I have to know more about Caldenia. Every scene she was in, she stole the show.
> I thought it was especially cool that Vamps & WWs were aliens. Curious to see how the potential love triangle gets resolved.

Review: I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I gave it 3 stars because I did like it, but it wasn't like "omg wow". I felt it was good as an introductory book to series. I will continue on to second book to see if I like the series.
I'm a character person so it sucked that none of the characters really captured me and made me feel for them. If I had to choose, I would probably go with Christian. I just sort of connected with him more than anyone else. We shall see where this series takes me.

We now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'dark urban fantasy' and 'paranormal'.
[Our updated BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]
Yay!! :D

Very sorry to hear that Melissa!!!! Totally understand the worry & scatterbrains ...... hope she isn't in too much pain.
And no need to fix the last stamp request as I'd already added the authors to the stats.

I’ll be reading

Thanks for the well wishes for my mom. She was able to sit up for breakfast today and started physical therapy. They are taking things slow due to the trauma of the fall/break. She's a young 64 so it was really surprising. She's never been seriously ill and isn't on any medication. She still works 2 jobs, volunteers and spends a ton of time in her garden. She's got it in her head that she is going to be back to her old self within 2 weeks. She's so stubborn that I wouldn't be surprised if she is!

Glad your mom is looking on the positive side, but you might have to watch her. LOL

Review: Another series I will be continuing. I was having trouble at first due to it starting a little slow for me. Plus I’m just getting into Urban fantasy, so just jumping right into things took some getting used to. I loved the characters and the way they interacted. Especially with the way the chapters were written, you got a glimpse at everyone a situation concerned.
(I will try to get better with my reviews. Still getting used to writing them)
