Cait S Got it down!

Yeah, I would think that counts. All tattoos are drawn anyway ;)

They Do It with Mirrors (Miss Marple, #6) by Agatha Christie (Miss Marple #6) ✔ - 03Sept14

They Do It With Mirrors by Agatha Christie
2**
I love Agatha Christie and have enjoyed other Miss Marple mysteries, but this one misses the mark. It is far too convoluted, and yet very slow going despite everything that is happening. Christie has proved that she is more than capable of juggling many storylines to build suspense and thwart the reader’s efforts to figure out the solution. But rather than tight plotting with twists and turns, this novel’s storyline seemed to just meander without purpose (other than to fill pages). In the end, I felt that I hadn’t read a Christie novel at all, but something written by a less-skilled author to imitate the Queen of Crime.

Check with JENNE in the SS HOW TO PLAY thread. She'll be quick to respond.

Cait S Awesome! That's everyone. Hope you all enjoy your books :D

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 2457 comments Cait ... the first team I worked with the captain set up the links to our posts as soon as we had announced what book we were reading ... then when we finished the book we just went back and edited that post with the rating/ date finished / review - and posted a quick "post #x updated" so the team knew we were done.

Do you want us to do that, or do you prefer a NEW post when we're finished?

message 57: by Cait S (last edited Aug 29, 2014 05:03AM) (new)

Cait S If that's how you'd like to do it, you can do it that way. Edit your post or make a new one, whatever works for you. I'll find it either way so, no preference on my end :)

I set up the initial post the way I did so I could tack a link to the review on at the end and it would be uniform/easy to see who had theirs in and who was missing. So no matter how you want to post your review I will probably still leave the post link off until the review is posted.

I'm finished. Will work on my review later today/tonight and post.

Cait S Dang girl, you move fast! That's awesome :D

message 62: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 982 comments I'm an insomniac - when it's bad it's really bad and I haven't been sleeping much this week. Needed to fit that book in by the end of the month for other challenges anyway so when I couldn't sleep reading it is. ;)

message 63: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Ugh, that's rough :( I mean yay extra reading time, but boo for every other reason.

F Is For Fugitive by Sue Grafton by Sue Grafton
Read: 30 Aug 2014
Rating: ★★★

I always enjoy the Kinsey Millhone books. They aren't my favourite series but they are consistently good. This one, set in a small beach side town, sees Kinsey pitted against half of the town's residents as she searches for the truth behind a 17 year old murder. I think one of my favourite things about these novels is the characters that Sue Grafton creates, not to mention that fabulous whiff of the '80s which always makes me a bit nostalgic.

message 66: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Right here is great, NancyHelen. I'm going to put a link to your review comment on the end of your line in my original "this is our spot" post. And then at the end of the week once we've got them all collected there, I put that on the mod's post.

You guys are so fast! I feel like I'm slacking! Lol I'm hoping to be done with my book by tomorrow night at the latest.

You are definitely NOT slacking ... I haven't even started mine yet ... but Miss Marple is a fast read.

message 68: by Cait S (new)

Cait S It's a little strange going from a challenge where multiple books a week was necessary to knowing I have at least a little time with this. I feel like I should be way closer to being done, but then I remember I have until Thursday to finish if necessary. Although I'm doing the SRC for the first time this coming round so maybe not that much time after all lol

You're not slacking at all. Kinsey Millhone is a fast read too and as I had 4 books to read this week I was determined to knock her off quickly while I could.

You're going to love the SRC...

message 70: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 982 comments I adore the SRC! Of course I read a bunch for it this last quarter, but posted nothing. I'm soooo behind on my life! Luckily I have tomorrow off. :D

message 71: by Tara (new)

Tara | 134 comments I've been slacking this week too....I have a project I'm working on in Kansas so I've been working crazy hours since I flew out on Thursday. I didn't read AT ALL yesterday (GASP!!!). I can't remember the last time I went a day without reading...even just a few chapters. I'm hoping to only have to work half day today and will then go back to my hotel and veg the rest of the day away and read! Then tomorrow I will have the day off from work for the holiday so I will read quite a bit then.

Maybe I need to try reading the Sue Grafton books again...I tried reading them years ago and just couldn't get into them, but everyone says how good they are.

And what's the SRC???

message 72: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Wow, that sounds busy! Don't worry about it though, I think even with us two a little behind we will have loads of time to spare. So take your time!

The SRC is the Seasonal Reading Challenge, another group on goodreads. It's over this way if you want to take a look at it, the new round starts tomorrow :) SRC. I'm really excited to give it a try and I dragged my best friend into it too so it should be a lot of fun :D

message 73: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 2457 comments Cait - SRC is exactly why I'm waiting to start my book until tomorrow. LOL

message 74: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Lol I don't blame you! When I was filling out my (pathetically organized and color coded) spreadsheet for the SRC, I was filling in as many challenges as I could pile on. Doing a book for a task there as well as some spot in some other challenge. I'm so, SO excited about starting. I wish I had found it sooner!

That is exactly how I felt about it when one of my team mates from an earlier team challenge told me about it just before the summer challenge started!

I've got my Fall spreadsheet set up and I am going to try a different strategy this time. Last one I read whatever I needed and then tried to fit it into the SRC. This time I am going to pre-choose books for the SRC and see if I can fit them in to other challenges. I think figuring out the best way to do it is half the fun...

message 76: by Cait S (new)

Cait S I totally agree. Filling out the spreadsheet and book hunting has been SO much fun. Seeing how many other things I can complete while checking off tasks at the same time. It's like a challenge within a challenge.

I've got it all color coded so I know which ones go to challenges that end sooner so I can read those tasks first, etc. I'm just hoping I can somehow wiggle some stuff around every week when we roll a new number here to make it fit in there as well!

message 77: by Tara (new)

Tara | 134 comments Man....that just seems like a whole lot of effort for a "fun" challenge!!! :-) Trying to do multiple challenges and use same books can definitely be a whole lot of a challenge, especially if there's a time cap on reading (one/two a week). The ones where you have a month or 3 months to read, I could probably manage multiple challenges (and if it's only a personal challenge and someone isn't relying on me to finish!).

message 78: by Cait S (new)

Cait S I suppose it would be a lot of effort if it wasn't something you enjoyed doing, yeah. For me, the hunting down books to see where I can make them fit is ridiculously fun. I spent like an entire weekend making my spreadsheet while marathoning episodes of House lol I love it.

And I especially like that there's a goal. You know, being able to physically see the number of points you're getting. I'm competitive so that on it's own is incentive for me haha

SRC is 3 months long and there's no like...set number you HAVE to complete. It seems that few people actually complete the whole challenge. I think it's more about reaching your personal goals and clearing some books off your shelves :)

message 79: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 982 comments Like I said I completed parts of it as a personal challenge even if I haven't posted any points this quarter. Life just really got away from me. But I enjoy the personal thrill of fitting books into multiple challenges. Makes it fun for me. :D Helps me choose what to read next and gives me new ideas.

message 80: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Exactly, Shelby. Even if you don't do the challenge for the sake of the challenge, having motivation to read things that have been sitting around for a while is nice. I feel very accomplished with how many books I fit in from my to-read shelf lol And I found a couple new ones I might not have otherwise!

message 81: by Tara (new)

Tara | 134 comments I have finished my book for TATTOO Beyond Control (Beyond, #2) by Kit Rocha . 2.5 stars. Read 8/29 - 8/31.

While I enjoyed the first book in the series (Beyond Shame) this book didn't quite have the same enjoyment for me. I am typically not a fan of "dystopia" books. I was surprised when I read the first book that I enjoyed it and was looking forward to the rest of the series. In this book, I struggled to connect to the main characters. I think for a series, I felt a little lost at times and didn't remember much from the first book I had read a few months back. I am up in the air if I will continue with this series, as I did enjoy the other characters and may consider reading their stories.

Cait S Cait's Week One Review
Desire Unchained (Demonica, #2) by Larissa Ione by Larissa Ione
Date Finished: 8/31/2014
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

It's been a while since I read the first book in this series so I forgot how much I LOVED it. Sometimes there is nothing better than trashy paranormal romance, honestly, and Larissa Ione writes the exact brand of it that I love. I don't know why I bother reading anyone else's when I don't think I could enjoy any other series more.

Shade is the perfect balance of that protective alpha male and also surprisingly kind and gentle that makes for a good lead in this type of situation. And it's always nice to see a woman not afraid to stand up for herself instead of just being claimed. As it was with the first book, Wraith remains my favorite of the brothers and I hope the next book, or at least at some point in the series, we get a whole load of time devoted to him.

The pacing is fast, the scenes are hot, the demon world is incredibly well created. You really can't ask for more than what the author gives you for this genre.

message 83: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Wow, great minds, Tara! That's three reviews in already. Great job, everyone!

Oooohhh!!. This sounds interesting. I may have to check out this series!. I just finished reading the last Black Dagger Brotherhood book and have been looking for a series with a similar feel. Maybe this is it?

message 85: by Cait S (new)

Cait S If you're into that genre, I definitely recommend it. It's probably one of my favorite series. Just so, so well done and ridiculously hot. No complaints at all.

message 86: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 982 comments I love Larissa Ione! Her stuff is excellent!

I REALLY need to buckle down and write my silly review. I was the first one finished with the reading after all. I just have so many things that have to be finished today as it's the end of the month for other challenges I'm playing catch up. :-p

message 87: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Yessss, it is! I just added the third of that series to a spot on my SRC spreadsheet. Give me all the Wraith! All of it!

No worries about your review, I know the last day of the month gets crazy with challenges ending and starting. We only need yours and Book Concierge and we'll be done for the week so lots of time to get it in. Looks like we're in good shape to get our free pass ticket this week which is awesome!

message 88: by Cait S (new)

Hope everyone is doing well and reading good stuff. Looking forward to our next roll!

Having a great week! Y'all made the SRC sound so interesting that I had to check it out...I ended up spending my Sunday evening doing a spreadsheet of the various tasks so I can do that one too! Uggghhhh....just what I need! I'm hoping I can work this weekly SS challenge into that one too each week! Is it Friday yet?? Ready for another roll!

message 90: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Haha yes! Another one comes to the dark side! How are you liking the challenge??

I'm on my 4th book for it now. Hoping whatever we get on Friday is easy to stick in somewhere so I don't mess up my pretty spreadsheet.

message 91: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Just in case you guys didn't see the mod note, we need all our reviews in by tomorrow to get our free pass.

Shelby and Book Concierge, we just need you two. If you can't make that deadline it's okay but please, please have them in by Thursday night so we can get our roll done right away. Thank you!

It's been a fun start....I'm trying really hard to not buy any books for any of these challenges! I have so many books I've downloaded that I've just never gotten around to so I'm trying to use what I have. A few I know I'll need to purchase/acquire (foreign language book/some settings, etc) but I figure I'll leave those till the end in case I get to them I'll find a book...otherwise this is going to help me get some books complete!

This will definitely help me focus on getting books read that I've had forever.

Good luck ladies in finishing this SS challenge for the week by tomorrow! Let's do it!

The Prince's Angel by Mychael Black
The Prince's Angel (Legends of the Romanorum, #1) by Mychael Black

Read: 8/28
Rating: ★★★

This falls strongly in the middle ground for me. I like the premise, I enjoyed the characters, but there were a number of plot holes in the story. It hooked me enough to want to read the sequel, but a lot things were left unexplained. I really enjoyed the chemistry between these two though, and well a vampire and an angel together was fun in and of itself. :D
