MommaFoxFire | 4 comments Humanity has discovered some sort of process to make them effectively immortal, but they lost all creativity when they did it. Some particularly artistic people were chosen to remain mortal to create art, music, etc for everyone
I feel like there was something about a girl who could record emotions with her music, but I might be mixing up series...

Aerulan | 1317 comments Sounds a little like The Child Garden but it's been long enough since I read it I'm pretty fuzzy on details. But people definitely aren't immortal, in fact they die a lot earlier, but the less creative part kinda fits what I remember of it.

It's not The Child Garden if people become immortal; in that book, life expectancy is cut in half.
