SOLVED. Fiction- unusual girl who sits in the middle of the classroom. [s]

I forgot the name of one of my childhood books. All I remember is that it was about a girl who was unusual. I remember she walked into a classroom after the school year had started and decided to sit at the desk in the middle of the classroom because she liked to sit "smack dab in the middle of everything." I thought it might have been Pippi Longstocking but I haven't found any evidence to support this. I read the book in the early 2000s between like 2008-2012.

Pippi goes to school in Chapter 4 of Pippi Longstocking. Do you remember any other details of the school day? Like drawing on the floor since she (obviously) can't fit a drawing of her entire horse on a sheet of paper?
