Wow, da-wildchildz! The impetuosity of youth! Whatever are you going to do for the rest of the reading year? :P

Reena (reenam) | 8 comments Thanks, yes already, lots of train/ bus journeys mean plenty of reading time. Favourites include: Down and Out in Paris and London, The Thirteenth Tale and What Am I Doing Here?
Great idea to do the challenge again with 1001 books, conquer 2 challenges at the same time.

Reena (reenam) | 8 comments Starting again, this time with the original 1001 BTRBYD book list in mind, though for the last year group, I will have to look to the latest edition of the list. Anything read from the 1001 list will have the list number at the end. Just had a quick count up of books read from the list, 118 and counting…

Another ForgottenBooks title to add to my list here. The classic children's book Pinocchio. How anyone ever thought this is suitable for kids though beats me. The violence throughout is horrific!

Finally finished my 19teens read which was The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Tressell. A bit of a brick (over 700 pages) and with lots of repetition but a socially important book nonetheless. Glad to have read it, would not want to have to read it again!

I'd forgotten about this challenge but I've managed to fill in a few books in my reading. I will now make more of an effort to search books out, I'm hoping to use mainly 1001 books.

I'm not sure if you read them already, but the first Poirot books by Agatha Christie were written in the 1920-1929 period. I have one on my tablet for later reading, they are available for free on Project Gutenberg.

The great gatsby is published in 1925. I am reading it now and so far I like it (I also liked the movie a lot.) I'm reading it as a combinend audio-ebook (you choose between audio and the text of the fragment is written down.) I will switch between these (when I'm at my thesis spot and need some relaxing) and the paperback I have at my dorm :)

message 118: by K M (new)

K M | 99 comments I'm a little behind on the challenge, but just added Roald Dahl's Boy: Tales of Childhood (1984) and John Steinbeck's Cannery Row (1945). I thought they were both excellent, and rated each five stars. Yet, when I try to write a review, I am at a loss for words. It seems that the more I enjoy a book, the more difficult it is for me to write about it. Oh well... Interesting to see what everyone has been reading!

message 119: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I agree. Sometimes it's easiest for me to talk about what's wrong with a book than to effectively praise it, even if it's not a bad book.

K M | 99 comments Congrats to all those who've finished. I'm almost there - just need to finish the second half of Faulkner's Light in August for the 30s.

Never heard of either of those titles, Cheryl, but they both sound interesting.

Thank you Cheryl :-)
Trying to decide whether to go for the challenge again next year - assuming there will be one!

Nancy Brady (minesayn) | 164 comments Failed again, but did better than last year. Only three decades missed. Maybe next year (if Edwina is up to hosting it again), I can complete the challenge.

Congrats to all who did complete their challenge. Well done!

Edwina Book Anaconda | 260 comments I failed my own challenge ... lol ... but that's ok because I still read a few books that I probably wouldn't have read otherwise.
Who's up to play again?
Should I post another?
