Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I agree Austin I cannot read series and when I do its never in order.

I finished a truly fantastic historical romance called Carry the World. It was unexpected and truly beautiful.

And then I go and read a miserable time.travel for another challenge. It was bad - Christmas Moon by Elizabeth.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Currently I'm hearing 2 books
Pride and Prejudice- a re re re read
Death in Delft by Graham Brack. Its a 17th century Historical Murder Mystery. the book's great. Im.not too happy with the reader though. His reading speed is difficult for me to assimilate.

message 256: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments I do the same Leena. When I read from a series I pick whatever book is available at the library and that which piques my curiosity more. Usually those kind of books can be read be as standalones.

Glad to know that you are having a whale of a time with books.

I am currently reading The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco

Finished The Push today, a psychothriller. A very good debut. Enjoyed it immensely.

Now reading The Serpent Sea, it's fantastic! Will also start Nemesis Games tonight. Both are BR here.

I love series as long as the author keeps up the momentum throughout.

Reading rn: Playlist for the Dead. This is low-key stressful as I'm reading, then reviewing chapter by chapter on goodreads, all while listening to the accompanying playlist.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I've been reading a lot of romance .
1. Sweet September
2. Only October
3. Narrating November.
all from the same series. And I really enjoyed all 3 . They are simple non complicated abounding in kindness love stories, a great rebound from.my last weeks disastrous reads.

message 269: by Savita (new)

Savita Singh | 1885 comments I'm reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck .
It has a slow tempo , so it takes time to engage with the story. I've reached Chapter 27 and am fully immersed in the saga involving two families - the Hamiltons and the Trasks . It is an interesting story and I am really enjoying the read . The author's language is good .
This story is described as part allegory , part autobiography and part epic.

I have the first one. Gone, Baby, Gone. But I am missing Sacred, the third installment so I have not read it. The Amazon paperback is too expensive and my local bookstore does not have it. So it's still pending. I plan to collect the entire Kenzie & Gennaro Series!!!!

I've reached Chapter 32 and am really enjoying the book . J . Steinbeck writes well . He's got a mature , enlightened mind , with a deep insight into the human character .
At first , the number of characters seems large , but , in fact, the major characters are only a few . It helps to make a list alongside, and a family tree of the Hamiltons .
I will write a review in this thread when I finish the book . The book is quite long - 600 pages - , but they melt away because the story gets so interesting . But you definitely will need time in hand if you plan to read this novel .

message 288: by Savita (new)

Savita Singh | 1885 comments I have finished East of Eden . It is a nice saga about two families. The tempo is slow , specially in the beginning , but then the speed picks up. The book is a learning experience about the different aspects of human nature - the good , the grey , the bad and the ugly / evil . My favorite characters are Sam , Adam , Lee and Abra , especially the latter two . The author has a nice writing style and a mature , enlightened mind . The end , though , is a bit unsettling. It is unexpected . Perhaps it is realistic ? Yes , it is realistic .
I gave the book 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Trainspotting is a tough read. Almost gave up when I started because of that scottish accent and language. Then gave it another try with audio and reading together this time and it was much better. Story made much more sense. So my advice read it that way.

Still reading Trainspotting and Hail Mary. Hopefully, will wrap them today.

Checked Silent Wife and Johnny Got His Gun. Both books have avg 4.33 rating by my friends, which is very good. Marking them for future read.

One question though, can we read Silent Wife as a stand alone?

message 294: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Silent Wife can be read as a a stand alone though the main characters have been consistent through her other books. it's a really well written thriller and unlike some of the new books where the end is pretty preposterous, this one's very logical and for me that really is important.
Its also not very dramatic like The Good Daughter which I wasn't very impressed with.
Importantly, its a woman centric book - I loved the professionalism and empathy shown by the law abiders and also the pain and anguish of the victims. I couldn't put it down.

I'm now going to read bk 1 of Will trent and if you've read her Blindsighted then you've already met Dr. Sara.

message 295: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I'm now reading a historical romance that's been on my tbr forever- The Viscount and the Vixen by Lorraine Heath.

I will be starting Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor. its a cozy mystery with Jane Austen playing the detective. It's part of a BOTM.

message 298: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments OK Leena, I'll check it out later. Thanks. I want to read some more and see how it goes. Some books have made unexpected comebacks in the past. :-)

message 299: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments I hope to read a standalone novel by Karin Slaughter in 2022. Never read her books so far. Since I like books by Patricia Cornwell, I may like her books as well.

You could try Blindsighted / Kisscut
Kisscut I felt was pretty heavy. It took a while to wrap my head around the atrocities.
