The Cruciverbalistic Bookworm Dombey and Son

One of Charles Dickens' underrated gems!

Thank you, Luffy! I love his satire!

A story of grit and determination of a clever young girl. A bit slow in the beginning but gets interesting as you turn the pages. Overall an interesting read.

Very good for a debut work. Needed some finetuning in the editing process but an informative and emotional read nonetheless.

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) Don't know where to post this really... but I am concerned about fellow member Leena Aluru's disappearance from GR and Facebook. I have been advised against posting on FB. Does anyone know what happened to her? RVSP.

Leena is not active on GR since Sept. 2022 it seems. I don't know about FB as I am not friends with her there. Another person, Shirin, has also disappeared. She used to play 7 letter scrabbles, remember?

It's a female name I believe and it sounds feminine to me. Maybe it's an epicene name like Jackie, Ashley, Joyce etc

message 1119: by Austin (new)

Savita Singh | 1885 comments Yes, Leena has disappeared recently from the scene . She was was to read Crime and Punishment with me , but after making a few remarks , she totally disappeared . I have been wondering since then . She was such an active and pleasant member .
Shirin was last seen on the Nightingale thread . I don't think she completed the book , because her remarks suddenly dried up .
Maybe real life became too demanding and engaging . Maybe they will return after a gap . I hope so .

Same. I had pinged her on GRs then and she was quite busy and so much was happening on family front, so she mentioned few things.

I pinged her recently to check up on her. But no response this time.
I'll try and reachout to her other than GRs.

Will keep you guys posted.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Guys, got in touch with Leena. She's fine and doing good.
Life just got busier for her and she was unable to read.

She says she's thankful for us that we have been remembering her. She said she'll try and atleast drop in and say Hi to us every now and then!

So, no worries, guys! It's all good! :D

Luffy, thank you for the concern and thansk Bookworm.for actullay getting tin touch with me. Id promised 1st Jan as my touchbase date, but i couldn't. Things have been quite topsybturvy for me, especially since my move back to India. I've not managed to read anything significant, "read freeze mode" if such a word exisits. Not that i didnt read anything, the panic set made me.read a lot more, so all that ive read is just one big glob- merged together.

However, the world spins around and ive read a couple of decent books
1. The Silent Girls i.loved it and waiting for the sequel on Scribd.
2. Josh and Gemma the Second Time Around
Book1 received a lot of flak from many women. For me, it was just a really sad story wirh a reallh sad heroine. Thjs one is brillaint, i couldn't put it down.
3. The Sparkling One. This is part 1 of a trilogy- not bad 3.5🌟

Currntly reading The House Across the Lake
Great going as of now.

TBR These Silent Woods

Once again, thank you all. I really missed this group.

Aditya | 21 comments White Jazz (L.A. Quartet, #4) by James Ellroy
White Jazz by James Ellroy. Pitch black noir that has its moments but is the weakest part of the L.A. Quartet and overdoes the staccato prose. 3.5/5
