sorry I haven't replied sooner but I rather wanted to share my recs when on my laptop - makes things way easier than when on my phone!
my favourite read of 2018 was the debut book of Cara Hunter, Close to Home. can't wait to read her second book In The Dark this year, hopefully!
I generally really really enjoy books like The Girl on the Train and Into the Water by Paula Hawkins, so I can also recommend The Woman in Cabin 10, The Perfect Mother, and definitely The Sinner!!
I hope you haven't read all of them yet x) do you like Shari Lapena? you might enjoy her books too.
Waiting is going to drive me crazy. I’m trying to figure out what I want to read...found a few books....need to decide if i want to read or wait since they work for harder numbers..
Christina wrote: "also, I can't wait to see what this year's team names will be inspired by!!":) It's one of the best parts - getting a theme together!
Ora wrote: "Waiting is going to drive me crazy. I’m trying to figure out what I want to read...found a few books....need to decide if i want to read or wait since they work for harder numbers.."I realised yesterday that I probably should start looking for yellow books :o
And I remember last year I had yellow-7 which was particularly tough to find
I want to know what the mini-challenges are going to be. Please????? Pretty please??????I plan to start looking for colored covers this weekend. Fingers crossed that some of the ones I bought recently will work.

hahaha I'm pretty sure my team had at least one yellow 7 too! right now I'm laughing about it, but next month we'll all be crying looking for those specific books x)

I really appreciate all the work that goes into creating challenges. I've enjoyed them so much - they make me love reading even more.
Me too, Suzanne. Under the "I should know this but"... As long we start a weighty tome after the challenge starts we can use it anytime we finish it? I'm wanting to read
and it might take me a while.
Thanks ladies ;)And, yes, Lisa. Just needs to be started after the challenge begins. I've had my eye on Follet for a while because I enjoyed the Pillars of the Earth TV show so much. I think maybe next summer when I've finished uni I can indulge ;)

Never read this or saw the TV show, but thought I'd let fans know that there is a board game based on this that is well regarded.

Thanks Christina! I've added Close to Home to my tbr. I 'll check and see if I can get that one from my library. I'm not a Paula Hawkins fan. I've read The Woman in Cabin 10 & The Perfect Mother. I do like Shari Lapena and am up to date on her latest reads!
I'll recommend back to you. Clare macintosh! Let Me Lie , I Let You Go & I See You. I'm impatiently waiting for her new release! After the End
When do you know if you are accepted to play UNO? I got in on the tail-end last year.. and this year I want to play from the beginning!
I’m new to this group so I’ve never played UNO before but I’m excited to play. I’m on my phone now so I’ll respond to questions later this evening when I’m home.

Crumb wrote: "When do you know if you are accepted to play UNO? I got in on the tail-end last year.. and this year I want to play from the beginning!"Everyone who has signed to this point will definitely be assigned to the team. Teams will be announced early next week as Karen said.
I am not sure that Mods have drawn a line for reserve players yet, but they may have done it.
Suzanne wrote: "I really appreciate all the work that goes into creating challenges. I've enjoyed them so much - they make me love reading even more."Same. After the really intense NBRC challenges end, I always feel like I need a break for a bit, but soon enough I'm looking to see what else I can join. Nothing gets me reading like a good team challenge.
Tati wrote: "WOBBLE was crazy, and also Amazing Race."Both of those were so fun! Also Cutthroat really got me going.
Joanne wrote: "Tati wrote: "WOBBLE was crazy, and also Amazing Race."Both of those were so fun! Also Cutthroat really got me going."
Cutthroat had the potential to be really fun, but my team decided to play it too safe...
Leslie wrote: "Amazing Race would be awesome...do you think they might run that one again??"I'd love it if they did
I can't wait to see the team names either! I love seeing what theme the mods have come up with!Seems like a ton of work behind the scenes between dividing up all the players and trying to keep teams even, finding the theme, finding the blurbs about the individual names, finding a picture of each one, making the spreadsheets, sharing them with the right people, posting everything, etc... so thank you, mods!!

Sign Ups from now on will not be guaranteed a place in a team, but will be instead put on the "reserves" list.
This means that you may still be allocated to a team, but as a replacement for a player who needs to drop out or doesn't check in to their team thread by Jan 22.
We will message reserves directly when a team is ready for them.
For everyone who has already signed-up, we are starting to put the teams together, but it will take a few days. We will post here when team assignments are complete!!
--also note--
We have had A LOT of requests for people to be on teams with others. As UNO has a set # of cards per month, the reading numbers of the players is quite important. We will try and do what we can to have 2-3 people on a team together, but sometimes it is just not possible. Thanks for understanding.
I appreciate all the work that you mods do to wrangle these team challenges. I know you are trying to make sure the teams are level on how many books we read, but are you also checking to make sure teams are also balanced on who has played before and who hasn’t? I definitely need to be on a team with some UNO veterans.
Yep. Basically I’ve tried to accomodate for team member requests, have at least two people from the same time zone in every team, and keep a mix of newbies and ppl who played last year in every team. I’ve then had to prioritise captains and co-captains based on those who have played before and/or are active in the group.I spent about 4 hours on it yesterday and just need E and A to check what I’ve done before we finalise it and put together the team threads
Yay! I'm so excited to know the team announcement is coming soon. Thank you for putting this together again this year.
Fours hours, Karen! We all really appreciate you taking time out of your busy life to put this together. It's one of the best Challenges on Goodreads!
I agree! I always look forward to this challenge - even when it's hard to find the Yellow 5 or Red 6!
Thanks Laura, I've never read anything by Clare Macintosh before and will try to get my hands on at least one book for uno! :) let me know what you think of Close to Home once you read it!
Silje wrote: "This is a challenge I do every year, one of my absolute favorites;)"This challenge is definitively the best! Since I discover it I always waiting for it to begin. :D
