What Are You Reading (2019)?

I loved Jaws! lol I love that NR gives her pet characters so much personality.

I listened to the story and ended up really enjoying it. Can’t remember if it had a slow start but it’s got a big payoff in the end.

Thanks, I'm going to give it another try at work today.

Yes, it took a little bit but it definitely picked up.
I finished See No Evil by Allison Brennan, No Evil Trilogy #2, and while it’s a tough story, it’s very good! Here’s my review.
I finished listening to The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang, The Kiss Quotient #1, and enjoyed it, though it was MUCH steamier than the synopsis implied. Here’s my review.
I’m reading Disavowed by Kaylea Cross, Hostage Rescue Team #4, and listening to Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare, The Infernal Devices #3.

I'm now reading Under Currents and enjoying it immensely!

Just finished on Kindle, "The Truth About Love." A historical romance short story by Caroline Linden, exclusively for subscribers. Miranda, the Lady of Roxbury has sudden visitors. Her brother and his gossipy wife. Neither of which like her husband Damien. Damien is off to help the Prince with his new Pavilion. The gossip is, is that he has been seen with the widow Mrs. Helen Morton. She looks for wealthy husbands like looking for sandwich crumbs. Miranda loves her husband and has faith in him. Or does she? This is a wonderful short story. So much love and romance.

The railroad is coming through Squaw valley and the majority of the townspeople are not happy about it. They don't want strangers coming into their town bringing riff-raff, criminals and what else. Luke has the largest ranch in the area and is one of the more wealthier men. He isn't sure how he feels about this change. Helen has lived here all of her life and isn't afraid of change. The only thing she is afraid of, is telling her best friend Luke show she really feels about him. As Luke, telling each other their feelings may ruin that friendship. Jake is from the railroad and is staying with Helen and her uncle William to meet with the people regarding the laying of tracks. There are many fights, literally between sides. This is a clean, romance story with love, romance, suspense and mystery. The reason I did not give it a higher review is because it was full of editing problems. Really bad. Secondly, it was way to drawn out. It got boring dealing with the same feelings, dialogue and plot over and over again. It could have been condensed in half and still have been a good book. 2 stars

Growing up together, Jace Lovell and Belle Edmunds never really got along and now Jace needs Belle's expertise to remodel Horseshoe Home Ranch. Belle is back with her tail between her legs after being set up and fired at a her previous place of employment. This is a great place to redeem herself and get her confidence back, but working with Jace could be stressful and nerve wracking. Jace is gun shy regarding women after his ex fiance' left him at the altar months ago and is an emotional basket case. The back and forth bantering was fun to read about. This is a clean, inspirational romance. I really enjoyed it but did not give it 5 stars as there were many editing errors. It was a good light read. 4 stars

Emma Marston, daughter of the Earl of Dawaerton is forced to go to Scotland to marry a man she has not seen since she was a child. Her father wants to ally the English and Scots. Her father has been friends with the head of the clan for years. Emma wants to marry for love, but for fear of her father, she has no choice. William MacNair, the son of the Laird has not seen Emma for almost 10 years. He is taken by her immediately and after confronting both of their families, the wedding must go on. But Emma's father is mysteriously poisoned at the great feast in Scotland where they are to announce their engagement. Emma's brother Thomas is irate and blames the MaNairs of poisoning him on purpose. As the book develops, we find Thomas is a ruthless, evil person. Emma and William must find out who was really behind this before he can clear his family and wed the woman he has fallen in love with. The book is sexy, romantic, suspenseful and mysterious. There were a few editing issues, but nothing that took away from the story. I just found the story to be too drawn out and I found my self scanning over the same descriptions and dialogue. I also don't know why it was titled as it was. Emma was NOT disciplined in any way by William. He became good friends, allies and much in love with each other. Title is misleading. But all in all, an enjoyable read. 3 stars

Anglo-Scottish Border, 1748, Rowena Calder needs to find an English husband to secure whats left of her land and home in Clair Alsh now that the English have overtaken her Scottish country. Rowena rides to the border of England to the Warrick Prison to buy a hard working man for a husband to help rebuild her land and home. Ethan Bloodwell, formerly of His Majesty's Tenth Dragon is just what she needs. But Ethan becomes more than she bargained for. Not only is he masculine, handsome man, he has an attitude and aggressiveness she can hardly handle. Ethan has no desire to stick around once he is free of the prison and of Clair Alsh and mostly of Rowena. As predictable, they find each other attractive and after learning of what Rowena is enduring, he just may change his mind. This is a hot, steamy, romantic short story. I thought it was a fun read on a hot summers day. 5 stars

I liked it. It started off really powerfully but it did slow down in the middle and the ending was a little anti-climactic for me. But it was still good.

Celeste Singer has fled France from her losses after the war. She has come to England to be a lady's maid to the Duchess of Gwendonmyre. A very temperamental, spoiled, selfish, greedy woman. Celeste often wonders how a woman could be so awful and demanding to such a wonderful, handsome man of that of the Duke. The Duke's life and kingdom has been turned upside down with the death of one his loyal maids and another maid drowning in the bogs. Poison is being found on coins and in food. As much as Celeste is enamored by the Duke, she knows nothing could ever become of it. She needs to raise enough money to bring her parents to her and keep them safe. The author has written a wonderful Regency/Victorian era book to life. Filled with suspense, mystery, aristocracy and drama. This is a great clean, historic romance and the need to know "who dun it." It was a book that was difficult to put down. I would highly recommend it. 5 stars

Tess lost her husband a few years ago and took her son and moved to Brush Creek. She has also had breast cancer and is now in remission. Walker Thompson's also lost his wife from a car accident. He and his son live on Brush Creek Horse Ranch where is a the foreman. Together they have ran the cotton candy stand during Heritage Days. Both are very good friends and neither want to take it to the next level. Both are reluctant to share their hearts again, and with Tess already having had to deal with cancer, is this a chance either of them want to make. This is was the most tender, realistic, touching story. A story of leaning on one's faith and letting God drive the bus. I would recommend this wonderful story to all.
