Adam Wilson | 236 comments Hey guys! I use to be in this group a ton a few years back and thought I’d join again since no one in my life reads horror. Anyway, just finished Dead Sea Chronicles by Tim Curran and, because I love the author so much, I am just starting Clownflesh by him.

Soooo, I got to the 45% mark, which had a rather shocking turn of events, one that made me unhappy and not sure if I wanted to continue. However, the book went in a completely unexpected and different direction very soon after, so that renewed my interest in continuing. Until Holly. I knew she was in it, but I forgot how GD annoying she is. So now I'm torn - the story has gotten very Stephen King-y (the first half really felt like a different author), but also Stephen King-y caricature annoying. I hope the remaining 240 pages leave me happy I decided to read this one next.

Adam Wilson | 236 comments The first half of The Outsider is definitely the best that book has to offer. Hopefully you enjoy the rest but I found the ending to be incredibly lame and the build up to it overblown and nearly boring.

Jason Howl | 13 comments I agree Adam. And I didn't care for Mr. Mercedes or Finders Keepers b/c it felt like he couldn't really get into the mindset of an autistic woman or a black teen.

Overall I like The Outsider, but I did have to skim a few pages because of unnecessary over-bloating of thoughts and such, and found the book to become too predictable in certain aspects, and formulaic by King standards. And yes, the ending was rather sudden and anti-climactic. At least Holly became less annoying once she really got into the mix of other characters.

I've seen those comments about Holly quite a bit, but I actually loved her character and was glad to see her back again in this book.

Randy Money | 432 comments The Last Séance Tales of the Supernatural by Agatha Christie

I'm about half way through and it's really a mix of rationalized supernatural doings and true ghost/supernatural stories. As always with Christie, the tales are entertaining and slight, potato chip fiction that makes you feel vaguely guilty for taking in all the empty calories even as you flip to another one while grinning at the shenanigans. Features a few stories with either Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple.

Lenoir is a very good historical novel, Char, though I do think Grady Hendrix goes a bit overboard in calling it a “near-masterpiece.” I confess that while I loved Elizabeth I don’t seem to be quite as bowled over by Hell Hound as a lot of people have been. I’ve certainly been impressed with Ken Greenhall generally—a truly unique writer—and plan to read his remaining three novels soon.

How is this one compared to 20th Century Ghosts? Are you skipping every other story because you're not enjoying it? :-/
