What Else Are You Reading in 2019?

Could also be we have vastly different definitions of "erotica."

Well mine definitely has mentions of the word. But! There's an all ages edition of the book, maybe you have that one?
Fluency: All Ages Edition
*This edition of the bestselling novel FLUENCY (Confluence Book 1) is suitable for Young Adult readers or those who are sensitive to adult language or sexual themes. In movie parlance, it's a PG-rated version.*
Trike, I can't remember who had sex on the mermaid ship, but I kinda liked that book. Mostly for the ASL, and for not being scary horror like I feared.

haha! I hate/love when that happens! Make sure to sleep sometimes!

No.

Like I said, we have different definitions of "erotica". Is there sex? Sure. But it's not too detailed and if anything is too juvenile in its presentation.
I mean at worst you could call this a cheesy space romance, and I'd say that's fair. I just think calling it "erotica" is giving people the wrong idea about the book. It's not a book about sex. It's a book about first contact that happens to have a handful of relatively tame sex scenes that some people may find out of place.
Peter F. Hamilton makes this book a straight up children's book by comparison.

I've never thought about what is or isn't erotica, so it's entirely possible this isn't it! But it's not the level of romance I usually see in my scifi books, and definitely not the level (=zero) that The Grove had. That was the reason I brought it up, I wasn't expecting to read about all the sexy times after the novelette.

For what it's worth, it sounds like the rest of the series is more of the same, which is fine with me, but YMMV.
On the other hand, lots of amazon reviews complaining about "SJW nonsense", which makes it a must-read for me lol.

My exact issue with Mira Grant/Seanan McG..."
Laurell K. Hamilton is the same way as is Jacqueline Carey

You really can't set me up like this. I'm sorry that you read a book that didn't have good sex in it, only to have it culminate in terrible puns. You deserve better, and I think, so does the linguist.

How many times in this life do you get to use a pun like that in such perfect circumstances? I am in awe.

Seconded.

Ha! Those are so great :)

Yes! Read that last month. A.Maz.Ing. :-D

My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Best of all I saw that she is writing a full length Murderbot to be published next year!

[Caution: do not read while in the vicinity of cutlery, tall bridges, or traffic.]

*giggles*
I loved it, but needed therapy afterward... o_O

Haha it's a very polarizing book! If you can hang on for the first third and accept that the science is magic, it gets easier.

Currently wrapping up Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection just to tie off the loose ends of the Cosmere Universe and say I have read all the works included therein. Then I think I need a bit of a Sanderson break as I have been reading primarily his works since January, I'll read his other series at some point this year I am sure but I need to cleanse my palate a bit I think.
With that in mind I picked up The Priory of the Orange Tree yesterday. It's not often that I buy a book on the day of it's release but not gonna lie, the hype has gotten to me on this one. Here's hoping it's as awesome as everyone claims. Got about 75 pages in last night and I am intrigued...not hooked just yet, but enjoying it thus far.

I made it to page 3 so you're way ahead of me. I'd have used it as fire starter if it weren't an e-book. I hear that it does have enthusiastic supporters though (glances up), 3 pages doesn't feel like I gave it much of a chance, and I hear that it's the basis for one of the group challenges this year. I assume that's why I couldn't make any sense of the challenge description. So perhaps it's time to try again.

Let us know how it is. I don't want to say I've given up on hyped books, but I certainly stopped expecting so much of them. I'm waiting for others to read this 800 page monster before I decide whether it's worth adding to my TBR or not.

The challenge should be doable even if you don't know anything about Ninefox or Game of Thrones. Also totally not mandatory!
Ninefox isn't for everyone, but I do know some people who really struggled with the beginning, and then ended up not hating it.
“I struggled in the beginning an ended up not hating it” is a perfect description on my experience with the book!

George R.R. Martin cites these books as one of main inspirations for A Game of Thrones. Somehow that's a series that I haven't gotten around to starting yet. Maybe after it's finished...

https://www.goodreads.com/series/1677...
Martin wrote an introduction to the English translations: "This is the original Game of Thrones.” George R.R. Martin.
It's fictionalized history and I enjoyed the series.

Both of my current reads are for either buddy reads or challenges, and they're quite good so far: The Iliad of Homer, Becoming
Up next: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (BR/challenge), Valor's Choice (BR)

It actually has 1 more book left: The Lost Metal

mmmm, okay, I will trust you. I can see some light at the end of the tunnel, but there are obstacles, called back-story, that are in the way.... *cries hysterically*

I am trusting Allison on this one. Many reviewers said the same thing, just stick with it and after the first qtr, things get better. Many reviewers just said they weren't that smart and just plowed through. That is what i'm feeling.

I love the Tiffany Aching series. Among Pratchett's best, IMO.

Didn't like The Road at all and have yet to reach Sophie's Choice in William Styron, The Collected Novels: Lie Down in Darkness, Set This House on Fire, The Confessions of Nat Turner, and Sophie's Choice. I'm still reading The Confession of Nat Turner and have been for a long, long time

"
Yep, I've got it on my radar! :) Given some of the unanswered questions after Bands of Mourning I would be a tad miffed if that was the official ending.
I was not aware that he never meant to make it a trilogy though, I know there was a debacle for a while when he said Alloy was meant to be like an era 1.5 and people were very confused.
Based on the last "State of the Sanderson" in December though it doesn't look as though the Lost Metal will be published until about 2021/2022 at this rate as he is focused on Stormlight 4 at the moment.

I agree, generally, though this wasn't my favorite of the set. I might've been a bit distracted, though, as I was feeling pressured to finish it so I could move on to the book I had meant to start 3 days earlier... :-/
All this planning is stressing me out already!

I also finished listening to 14 which I LOVED! I hope there are more in the series besides The Fold which I also really, really liked.
My new audiobook is Leviathan Wakes. The reader is ok which is making me wonder if I should read the book at the same time to shorten the length of time I'll have to listen to him...
Finally starting A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe. It has been interesting seeing the different reactions to it. I've made sure to stay away from the spoilers discussion but have been sorely tempted to read the comments.

The love, for those of us who enjoyed it, happens around page 200. You're a little before that =P
