Just read your review - thanks for the heads up :-) lots of similar reviews and then some who enjoyed it, hmm. I scanned the ratings of those who wrote reviews in Greek - some didn't like it, others did. Oh my....it'll be interesting when I finally get around to it. :-)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11316 comments I finally decided to start Sidonia's Thread: The Secrets of a Mother and Daughter Sewing a New Life in America which I have own for a long time. It fits the biography and the nonfiction tasks in the MM Challenge. I will decide later where to pin it.

Dem, the link got corrupted. There's a comma (co,) instead of an m (com). Here's the right link, but you might want to repost it yourself.

PattyMacDotComma Yay! You're Gay! Now What?: A Gay Boy's Guide to Life is just what it says and lot more entertaining than I'd guessed.

Riyadh Khalaf is a popular YouTube activist, a colourful guy who's put all the facts and fears in this one, well-illustrated book. Celebrities, photos, cartoons!

Janice (jamasc) | 60107 comments I finished Cardinal Black while on my road trip. It was great being back in Matthew Corbitt's world and tagging along on his adventure. Now I have to wait again for the next adventure.

I started The Spirit Rebellion. I've decided to focus on finishing this series. It fits the Movie Mania challenge, so that's a bonus. :)

message 709: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4554 comments I finished reading Run, Boy, Run thinking I'd use it for the Yearlong Challenge as Historical Fiction. Several people listed it that way, but really it isn't. It's a true story about an 8 year old Polish boy who survived mostly through his own resourcefulness and considerable luck after escaping from Warsaw during WWII. The story is based on the life of Yoram Fridman who passed away in 2017.

Janice (jamasc) | 60107 comments I finished The Spirit Rebellion, book 2 in the Eli Monpress series. I enjoyed this book a bit more than the 1st. Three more books to go to kill this series.

I'm not quite decided about what to start next. I could dive right into book 3, or I could do my monthly challenge read.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Wakenhyrst which was a very disappointing read for me. Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am now going to start Blood & Sugar for the monthly challenge.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I enjoyed that series Janice. I read them all when we had the serial killing challenge.

message 716: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60107 comments I'm enjoying the series so far, Peggy. I've decided to concentrate on finishing some series and this is the one I'm currently working on. I hope to read a book a month.

I've decided to go with my challenge read, The Glass Woman. I will start it today.

Margo | 11675 comments I forgot to download my audiobook before I went out in the car so I started to lis5en to The Eyre Affair. I have read the ebook but th8s is my first time to lis5en. I was a bit disappointed that some of the humour didn't translate that well to audio. The word play got a little lost.

PattyMacDotComma Young Master Reacher makes his debut, chronologically speaking, in Lee Child's novella, placed in the High Heat of 1977 New York City. Jack, at not quite 17, is already a formidable force!

Margo | 11675 comments I've just finished great story, The Binding. It was ....WOW! I think that the audio performance really added an extra depth to this fantasy that centers on books; magic and books, mtwo of my favourite themes so how could I fail to fail to love it?

Audio was by Carl Prekopp.

I must start my bookclub read, Honour which is not available to me on audio so I must do the horrible text-to-speech voice :( When I can't take it anymore I sw8tch to Hood.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11316 comments I finished yesterday Sidonia's Thread: The Secrets of a Mother and Daughter Sewing a New Life in America which was a 3.5 stars for me. It is always hard to rate biographies/memoirs...

I will start today The Dry. It has been in my TBR for a long time (recommended by Rusalka, I think?) and it is borrowed from the library, so it fits one of the monthly challenge tasks.

message 721: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I started Paper Towns for the movie challenge. I'm not the biggest YA-fan, but sometimes I just need something like this (they're usually short and quick reads and not too complicated) and I like the John Green books I've read so far.

message 722: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11316 comments I just saw I have The Dry pinned for the yearly challenge (set in Australia or by an Aussie author) so I am not sure if I am going to use it for the monthly challenge now. I have 3 more books from the library here, so I must go with one of them. I'll decide when I am done with it.

Janice (jamasc) | 60107 comments I finished The Glass Woman yesterday. You know I love a book when I binge listen. 5 stars!

I will start The Winter of the Witch today. It finishes a series, is published in 2019, and fits my MM challenge.

PattyMacDotComma Nobody should pass up the BuzzBook previews! As expected, I enjoyed Buzz Books 2019: Fall/Winter: Excerpts from Next Season's Best New Titles by Susannah Cahalan, Eoin Colfer, J.T. Ellison, Jojo Moyes, Jeanette Winterson and More which, as you can see, has a lot to choose from. I made a few comments, but it's worth checking the Goodreads blurb for a good list.

PattyMacDotComma Case Histories by Kate Atkinson was a re-read for me, and a good one, too! She's written book 5 of her Jackson Brodie mystery series, so I thought I'd catch up. Just as much fun this time around, and I think I enjoyed the characters even more.

Janice (jamasc) | 60107 comments I finished The Winter of the Witch. While I enjoyed the series overall, I started to lose interest. I enjoyed the Russian folklore most of all.

I could start a new audiobook today, but I think I will hold off for the toppler tomorrow. I have Vengeful down as my starting book.

Margo | 11675 comments I am putting aside my two current reads in preparation for the toppler. Golden Hill i am enjoying and will certainly pick up again but Honour I am less sure about. The story is interesting but I don't feel it is well put together. It is very bitty and in cohesive. Of course that could be be due to the fact that that it isn't available on audio and I am reading on kindle using text-to-speech - always a bit iffy. I am keen to listen to an an Elif Shafak book on audio so that I can properly judge her writing.

I am now going to rest my reading muscles to be fit for tomorrow LOL

Glad you are enjoying Golden Hill, Margo.

I'm also putting aside my current read, Blood & Sugar, for the toppler. It's not as good as I thought it was going to be. I will finish it but I'm not finding it particularly compelling.

message 744: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Margo wrote: "Thats a shame Lisa, I was drawn to that one too."

One of the main reasons I was drawn to it was because I had been seeing it compared to the works of C.J. Sansom. His 'Shardlake' series is one of my all time favourites so to see this being compared to that was really appealing to me. I think those comparisons flatter this to be brutally honest. It's not a bad book and I certainly don't hate it but I do have some problems with it.

message 745: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11675 comments Yes, I agree. Shardlake has spoiled other historical fiction/mystery for a lot of us.

I have the first 5 of the books in that series and haven't gotten to them yet. I've heard so many positive things about them.

I've read only the first two Shardlake books and thought they were terrific. I plan to read the rest - just saving them up. :)
