Thanks a lot, Nicole, for the lucid clarification. By MPG, I meant the 'Genres" referred to in the Main Book Page on the right hand side.

Your clarification now enables me to read The Ring of Solomon for two challenges. Thanks.

Magdalena | 414 comments My #19 is Herding Cats which is one I'm really exited about. It's funny because I'm pretty sure it's the shortest book on my list but with my illness flaring up it will actually be a relief to start the year with something easy.

message 63: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12142 comments I've just spent a day and a half with no phone, no tv, no internet as line was down. And I am so antiquated, I don't have a cell phone.

I knew this was going to be announced and was bummed that I couldn't find out, but I did read 3 books in the mean time.

My 19th book isCarrying Albert Home: The Somewhat True Story of A Man, His Wife, and Her Alligator Carrying Albert Home The Somewhat True Story of A Man, His Wife, and Her Alligator by Homer Hickam .

I'm pretty sure it doesn't fit action adventure, but who knows?

message 67: by Joi (last edited Dec 28, 2018 01:34PM) (new)

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I somehow missed that we had to post our lists before Jan 1!
I had posted the majority of my list last week, and have What Alice Forgot as my #19- matched from AJ's list! I'll work on finishing my list today.
Just finished Nine Perfect Strangers, but I'm always in the mood for Liane Moriarty so am very happy with this pick for January!

Admins- if you'd like to randomize my list and give me a new book/number (since my list wasn't complete when the announcement was made) let me know. It's all good either way :)

LibraryCin | 11722 comments Booknblues wrote: "I knew this was going to be announced and was bummed that I couldn't find out, but I did read 3 books in the mean time...."

message 69: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2599 comments For my list I put a lot of my series that I had stopped reading but really liked. Don't know why, but I am not keeping up with series books. So, this is perfect! My #19 is Red Sky at Night set in Florida. I'm off to see if it is also tagged Action Adventure because I know it would fit the tag. However, I understand it must BE tagged that to count for the extra points. **fingers crossed**

Joi, did you have your list through #19 complete last week? If so, then that is fine, just complete your list from there!

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11107 comments Here is the link to the thread that we used before Dec 27 to
help people coordinate potential buddy reads.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

It's missing some correct book titles, and quite a few people. If you'd like to add data, that would be helpful. There were two books listed for #19. Look at posts #1 for book 19. post #2 for the whole summary, and jump right to very end to add data you would like added to the summary.

There aren't many tags on that book yet, but based on the description and Thriller tag, you might find (after you read it) that you could easily defend an action tag.

Kelly,

Looks like we've had a change of heart on this - - in order to allow new people to enter, we are being more flexible. So your #19 is locked, but you may reorder (not switch out) your other titles to match up with buddy reads.

Sorry for the confusion.

Anita

Becky Should have expected the first number picked would have been my longest book! My #19 is 1944: FDR and the Year That Changed History by Jay Winik at 656 pages.

The confusion is totally on me! I was trying to come up with a way to be a bit more flexible so that people who have been away for the holidays can still align some books for the buddy reads if they want and did not realize I was contradicting what Anita said previously.

Even the admins have trouble over the holidays with checking in with each other and making sure we are all of the same page! It is a busy time of year!

Allowing a few more days to reorder and complete only seems reasonable given the holidays, especially, and thank you!

While mine is set, I know my late response due to holidays caused a potential realignment of a couple of lists to miss the 27th Dec. Deadline. Now that has happened!

I think that's very fair.

Kelly, please look at the lists on Post #2 on this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Nicole approved the changes, and I can help you with summary sheet. I'll update the summary with your changes, and you'll then need to update your list on your own tracking thread.

message 84: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9298 comments Thanks everyone (including my wonderful partner in crime, Nicole) for being so patient. Sometimes we realize that we have to make some tweaks to accommodate new people and holidays and other things. Fortunately, Kelly is my IRL very good friend, so I know she'll be understanding, but I probably mislead others as well by mistake.

Nicole has been bearing the brunt of the work because of my move so really this is mostly on me!

message 85: by Nicole R (last edited Dec 29, 2018 11:19AM) (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Okay, after a small delay for Anita and I to work out some kinks behind the scenes, we have some clarification of the timing for posting your Trim lists for this challenge.

As Anita said, thank you for being so patient! We come up with these challenge ideas and think we have anticipated so many questions and concerns, but there are always things that members raise that never even crossed our minds! We try to be as flexible as possible while still being fair to everyone.

A note on list order:

Just a note for everyone, #19 on your list is locked, but I know a few people are still trying to line up some buddy read orders of the other numbers. We are fine with that, but please have everything set by the end of the day on December 31st!

If you have not made your list yet but still want to join in, please post an unnumbered list of your 36 books in your personal tracking thread and bring it to the attention of Anita or me on this thread. We will randomize it for you, which will lock in your book #19. Then, you have a few days to align the other books with buddy reads of you like.

Bottom line is that all rearranging needs to be done by the end of December 31st so we can jump into the challenge on January 1!

A note for people who start the challenge after January 1:

Whenever you join, if you want to participate in the current month, then Anita or I will randomize your list as described above, locking in the book for that month as well as the books for all previous months (exact number depending on when you join). Then, you can have the random number for the next month is announced to rearrange the order of the remaining books to align with any buddy reads or just going with your gut instincts!

Once the random number for the next month is announced, your list is locked and you cannot change it until our mid-year shake-up!

This seems like the best way for people to jump in at any point while still keeping things as fair as possible.

Hi, BnB .... No luck with "action-adventure" ... though it DOES have "adventure" on the first page of tags.

I just requested it from the library. Hoping it'll be here by next weekend.

I kinda dropped off the site the last few days while battling stomach flu (or was it food poisoning) ... anyway .... frequent bathroom stops makes for a L-O-N-G driving trip back from Texas.
We're home now ... finally unloaded the car this morning .... but the bags are still sitting there, unpacked. You know I'm sick if I miss my weekly manicure .... and I called Thursday afternoon from somewhere in Missouri to cancel.

message 93: by NancyJ (last edited Dec 29, 2018 09:24PM) (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11107 comments NOTES for TBR #/Book alignment for Buddy Reads. If you want to take advantage of the opportunity to renumber your TBR list for potential buddy reads, please follow the link below. I can help with changes that are requested on that thread. Please note I am not a moderator, and you are still responsible for making sure that you're following the rules of the challenge. Buddy reads are purely voluntary.

FIRST - Are you aware of other buddy reads that are not on the
Summary list in post #2 of the Buddy Read coordination thread? If so please let me know ASAP so I can avoid conflicts with other groups.

If you see a book on the summary sheet that you want to read, change that book's number on your list (other than #19) by Dec 31, and ask me to add you to the buddy read.

If you that you have a book in common with others, but it's not on the list, let me know the title and names of the people. We have several numbers with no buddy reads at all, so new book matches can be assigned to those numbers.

This will be very easy if only 4 new books are added. If there are more than 4 or 5 new books, I'll figure out the best numbers for them.

If you see that several people are proposing buddy reads while I'm offline, just let me know the Title/Author and people and I'll assign the book a number with no conflicts for the people with other buddy reads on the list.

Tip: On your TBR list, it's a good idea to mark the books for which you already have a buddy read so you don't inadvertently change it. I'll try to double check before assigning numbers.

Here is the Buddy Read Coordination thread. The summary list is on post #2. If you have any questions, please ask them there:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Thanks! Nancy

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Hi Robin, the randomizing is only for people who did not complete their list before the January #19 was announced. Lists that were completed before then do not have to be randomized and you are good to go! If I remember correctly, you have had your list done for some time and are good to go!

Warmest of welcomes, Adithi! I think you mean you are reading Into Thin Air for this month's tag (theme), and I'm so delighted because that is one of my favorites of all time!!! I hope you love it as much as I did.

If you'd like to participate in the Trim the TBR challenge, you certainly can. Please go to the folder below and see how others are setting up their lists.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Basically, you should simply set up your own personal thread and an unnumbered list of the books you'd like to read from your TBR. I will randomize and number it for you (just drop me a note when you are ready). Then, you will read the one marked #19.

I looked, and I don't believe you have done this already? If you have, please just send me a link to your thread, and I'll take care of the randomization.

Let me know if you have any questions and WELCOME!!! Glad you are diving right in!

Hey Anita, thank you for the warm welcome!! I will be reading Into Thin Air for the month's tag yes, I'm certain it will be a great read!
I have created a list for TBR and it's unrandomized so I'd be grateful if you randomized it for me, here's the link (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...), I hope it's alright if I don't have all 36 books as I still haven't decided which to read but I do have 31 books as of now, thank you so much for helping me out!
I'm looking forward to being an active member, this is the first book club I've ever joined!
