Yes, it was written in German by Cornelia Funke (and translated into English by Oliver Latsch), so it counts. :)

Thanks! It's amazing how often this information is buried. ;)

Sarah Faltesek | 1 comments I, Rigoberta Menchú: An Indian Woman in Guatemala, is both an Own Voices book for Central America and a book written/translated by a woman. Rigoberta is a Mayan woman from Guatemala, and she relates the story of her life and the traditions of her people, as well as recounting her work as an activist during the civil war and the violence done to her people (and her family). She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992.
The book is comprised of interviews with Rigoberta, recorded and translated by Elisabeth Burgos-Debray.

Jenny (sapphicbookdragon) | 115 comments Would a play count, do you think? I'm plannning on reading Home Fire for the challenge of a book by a woman and/or AOC that won an award last year, but it's based on Antigone and I've never read that. So I was wondering if a version of Antigone translated by a woman (I have one picked out) could go for this challenge and so have the two related, though not doubled up

Personally, I think that fits! The task doesn't specify "novel" or "memoir" or some particular type of book.

Siobhan (shivykiyay) | 1 comments I've just finished Go Went Gone by Jenny Erpenbeck and translated by Susan Bernofsky for this challenge

Chrissy I got 100 or so pages into The Gray House and just couldn’t keep things and people straight. Reviews seem really hot or cold, so maybe it’s just not for me at this point, especially since it is also LONG.

Any specific title you recommend from her?

I'd assume Lahiri's book "In Other Words" is the one being recommended :)

Kris V (kristinarabbit) The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa was such a wonderful book I read this year, and am counting for this category.

Forgive my ignorance, but do you know what the original language was? I own that book, but I cant find the translator's name in the title page fine print."

on the goodreads page, it lists Ann Goldstein as the translator, and says it was originally written in Italian :)

And that makes sense, because Lahiri translated Ties FROM Italian to English. She actually lived in Italy and has purposefully become skilled in Italian.

John | 30 comments I read "The Vegetarian" by Han Kang for this challenge. Very unusual but extremely interesting!

Heather | 31 comments If you're interested in horror, you might like, "The Good Son" by You-Jeong Jeong. (Scribd description refers to her as "the Korean Stephen King). I'm currently listening to this one, and it's intriguing so far.

THANK YOU! I adored this one. Read it just this morning, in about two hours? A single sitting.

Kris | 2 comments The Rain Watcher by Tatiana de Rosnay is a great choice here. Written originally in French, this novel is beautifully written and hard to put down.
