Thank you! And thank you for the fun and the inspiration for future Christmas trees. :)

Kirsten | 695 comments I think my favorite tree here is E, but that takes a bit too much planning for my holidays, so we'd normally just go with a traditionally decorated small (live) tree.

This year has been rather tough for us though. My stepmother passed away earlier in the year so there's been lots of cleaning out her belongings and such. Then my dad fell and broke his arm earlier this fall. He ended up having to have shoulder replacement surgery last month and he's still not really able to use it, so I've been doing lots of chauffeuring and errands and housekeeping for him. Not a lot of time to decorate. And Christmas was always my stepmother's favorite time of year, so he's been rather blue this first year without her and without her to take care of him. He wasn't going to decorate at all, but I bought him a little tree.

So our holidays are going to be quiet and lowkey this year, and we'll look forward to a better year next year.

Such a cute little tree!
I'm glad you can be there for your dad. After all this, I'm sure he needed a bit of Christmas cheer. :-)

So sorry to hear about your stepmother. I like your little tree. I think it is the little things we do to keep up the traditions that help us make it through the holidays after recent loss.

Thank you! However, I just won a code not too long ago. Throw mine back in the ol' bag of gifts for next Sunday. I am enjoying this thread a lot. Thank you for doing it.

That's very generous, dear Loretta! I'll do it just like this. :-)

See you all here next Sunday!

Calathea | 6034 comments Four candles and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

This is the last round of our Advent Raffle and we have a bag full of a little bit random things for you. :-D

Every time I walked through town these past few weeks, I wandered by this stand that sells the most colourful and curiously shaped candles. Have here a video or three on how those are made: video 1, video 2, video 3.
Video 2 makes me think a lot of a character in one of Josh's books. Can you tell what book and character that could be?

Also, for the puzzle afficionados among us, here are a number of jigsaw puzzles that you can try if there's a lull between the presents and the feast. ;-) Puzzle 1, puzzle 2, puzzle 3

And for all of us (or maybe this is for Josh?), there is this virtual Holiday Greetings pinboard. Leave holiday greetings, best wishes and so on for Josh on the board and I will deliver the completed board to Josh on Christmas Day via e-mail.
Follow the link on your computer (big screen might be more handy this time) or use the Padlet app on your phone. You can double click anywhere on the board and leave a message (or use the big '+' button in the lower righthand corner). When you finished your message, click somewhere else on the board. You can move your message to a place on the board that you like.
Try to be a bit more creative than I was. ;-)

Today we raffle away:

* four audiobook codes (for Audible UK, should also work for participants overseas) and
* one audiobook code, found at the bottom of Santa's bag (for Audible UK, should also work for participants overseas) and
* one copy of Josh's Christmas Waltz via Smashwords and
* three paperback copies of Seance on a Summer's Night via Amazon.com

Winners will be announced later tomorrow, definitely after 8 p.m. because at that time I'll be blissfully lying under the Christmas tree. ;-)

Happy Holidays and have fun! 🎄 🎅

Goge | 641 comments A holiday greeting is done! As for videos, I can't really pinpoint the character. There are so many!
And my favorite game puzzles!!!

P.S. I won an audiobook in TGHAEC giveaway so it would't be fair to get another one providing I win one here. So take me out on that part.

Good for you! I love lazy Sundays... mine turns out a bit more busy than anticipated. I'm packing and then will drive over to my parents.

KC | 4897 comments Love the greetings board! Thank you, dear Calathea!
And the videos are fun - it always amazes me how some people are so visual, taking random objects and creating something awesome. I liked video 1 the most. Why are shapes so mesmerizing...?

The repetitive dunking motions and the twirling in the video almost hypnotise me. :-D
Did you see the second candle in video1? It has a bit of a rainbow theme going and in the end almost looks like porcelain.

Ha! So, I'm not the only one...

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments Yes - I immediately thought of Angus too but I remember he wasnt entirely proficient. The candle making is really interesting and I did wonder if any of them were perfumed.

Elena | 662 comments I loved the greeting board, Calathea, such a sweet idea! :)

I wanted to extend my greetings to everyone else here, I hope you're having a lovely time and that this holiday season is finding all of you and your loved ones happy, in good health and with a reasonable amount of stress (it's the holidays after all, there's no such thing as no stress). ;)
Thank you for all the good times sharing thoughts on books and other things, playing and enjoying each other's company. <3

I almost forgot. Thank you for the puzzles, Calathea, it took me half an hour to finish all three but it was fun! :)

Was Angus the goth student guy from Adrien English who was a suspect and ran away with his girlfriend? That's who I was thinking of.

message 178: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 695 comments I have a candle like in the first video, but I didn't make it. I bought it at an amusement park. *^_^* And the puzzles were very fun! I found them a bit more challenging this time because the patterns throughout were so similar. I hope everyone has a great week, and happy holidays.

(Please take me out of the running for the audiobooks too! Although I'd love of copy of Seance. ;)

Loretta (loris65) | 1545 comments The videos were fascinating. I took 10, 8 something, and 7 something on the puzzles. They were very fun. What a wonderful idea the greeting board is. Thank you, Calathea, for spoiling us.

message 181: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Happy to hear that you're all having fun!

@Kirsten: I chose the puzzles for that exact reason. :-)
And, yes, Angus was the student. Of Captain Crunch, if I remember correctly. He worked at Cloak and Dagger for a while.

@all: I love how the greeting board is coming along!

Didn't you know? That was before his time at Cloak & Dagger, when he still moonlighted as a witch. ;-)

Calathea | 6034 comments Ho, ho, ho! Christmas is here and I think I saw Santa sneaking around the house. ;-)

Looks like everybody who played gets a prize this time around and isn't that perfect for Christmas? :-)

Here's Santas list of who won what:

One audiobook code each goes to:
* SamSpayedPI
* Ije
* Elena
* Haldis
* Loretta
Please, contact me via Goodreads message to claim your audiobook code. And no throwing them back this time, they want to be used before the end of the year. ;-)

One ebook copy of Christmas Waltz goes to:
* Goge
Please, contact me via Goodreads message. I will need an e-mail-address to send you the book.

One paperback copy of Seance on a Summer's Night each goes to:
* Trio
* Kirsten
* Antonella
Please, contact me via Goodreads message. I will need a real life snail mail address to send the book to you.

Plus, last but not least:
One audiobook code goes to Santa's little elf who was very busy behind the scenes and without whom the games wouldn't have been half as fun: KC. Thank you!

And thank you all for participating! I'm glad to hear you had fun in the games and everybody found something to their taste.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas!

Afterwards, everything still lying around will be repurposed, remade, thrown out or plain forgotten... ;-)

You can remake my audio code into an origami crane. :-)
