A challenge

Hey guys. I was wondering if someone could recommend to me a book that fits my specific criteria.

1) No YA
2) A heroine that isn't pathetic.
3) Still a romance and definitely not UF.

Ive been searching pretty hard for something like this. Its tough to find an author who seems willing to instill a little backbone into their protagonists.

Im interested in a different kind of heroine, yet I still want it to be a romance.

As an example of what I definitely don't want, I just got done reading Cinder. She is a worm who lays down and lets everyone walk all over her. I hate her and wish her dead. I read through the whole thing hoping for just one cyborg uppercut to be thrown but it never happened.

So if anyone has a book with a protagonist who is essentially the polar opposite of that, and yet is STILL a romance I would be eternally grateful for a recommendation.

I can think of quite a few historical westerns and contemporaries,but I assume you're interested only in PNR. These came to mind right away:

was pretty good, but leans more to UF than PNR.
