Again, like Rina. That was my book. It is a physical book that I have already returned to the library. It talks about being an observant Sikh, but I do not have the quote. I can remove it if you care that much but for GR being a kind environment, I am replying because I find your comment more aggressive than actually inquisitive, but tone can be hard when typing.

Actually I had not checked your spreadsheet recently and was asking for myself (I have a lot of books about Indian and Pakistani peoples). I found a different book that’s more explicit, but which is not as exciting to me as some of the Indian ones.

Sorry if you felt is was directed at you. My previous comment never mentioned anything about any another player, as opposed to the thing about the Rapunzel book.

Sorry, I assumed since I below Rina that you were referring to mine. I enjoyed my book but if it has to be explicit, "Sikhs do not cut hair" versus turban, long beard and being an observant Sikh than it will not work. Thank you for your response.

message 504: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments And re the Rapunzel question — if the Mods has answered differently before Rina chimed in, that would have opened up way more reading possibilities too. There are tons of books wherein someone just simply hasn’t or doesn’t feel like cutting their hair 😉

Lexi | 4247 comments If you want a good one with a clear will not cut hair and fights over it with people- An Unsuitable Heir works well but it is third in a series. I've read it within 6 months sadly.

Aw damn, that looks good! Thanks! But I don’t want to read a series out of sequence. I found Starfish for this task and have it out from the library now, but the 3.34 star rating makes me wary.

Lucy | 271 comments Darius the Great Is Not Okay is another book where the main character fights with his father over not cutting his hair if you need another idea.

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments For the family reunion task does it need to be a party type big reunion or is it enough if someone is away for a couple of years then comes back?

message 512: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I found the word chamomile in my book, but unfortunately I only have the audio version. I have checked google books and amazon to see if I can find the sentence and page number, but both samples stop before it gets to the location of the word. Is there another alternative? Thanks!

Alison wrote: "For the family reunion task does it need to be a party type big reunion or is it enough if someone is away for a couple of years then comes back?"

any of these dictionary definitions are fine:

reunion
/riːˈjuːnjən,riːˈjuːnɪən/
noun

an instance of two or more people coming together again after a period of separation.
"she had a tearful reunion with her parents"
a social gathering attended by members of a group of people who have not seen each other for some time.
"a school reunion"
the action of being brought together again as a unified whole.
"the reunion of East and West Germany"

You can just put the approx. location (time wise) of the audiobook. :)

I think using Lexi's example, it does not need to explicitly state "Sikhs do not cut hair". If the character is (using her words here!) described as turban, long beard and being an observant Sikh, then I think that is ok to count. Because we know that if he has a turban and a beard and is a Sikh then he is not cutting his hair.

Whereas if it was a character described as a Sikh, but he wasn't described as wearing a turban or having a beard it would be more questionable (as according to google, more than half of Sikh's now cut their hair)

hahahaha! Yeah, I've heard of that in Kenya, when UK tourists are in shorts and strappy vests and the locals are in winter jumpers!

Tati | 1350 comments Whenever it gets to 15C, you start spotting people in scarves and gloves and hats here LOL

However: my German cousin felt really cold here in Brazil, more than in Germany. Why? We don't have central heating here, which means that inside is usually colder than outside in winter

Is that both to finish reading and update the spreadsheet, or does the reading need to be done earlier at the regular 8am Australia time?

Did you mean midnight on the 1st (which would be the whole of the 28th)?

Angie ☯ | 3092 comments For the colonial names task - Read a book where a character or author's name is on the Nameberry "Colonial Names for Girls" list (https://nameberry.com/list/245/Coloni...) - Rebekah is on the list.

I have a Rebekka - will this work as a minor spelling variation?

This is the time for when you need to have all your reading done AND spreadsheets up to date.

(On 12/31 and 1/31, the countdown ended here in the afternoon, I think 4pm)
