Just completed my 2nd adaptation (second season comes out this year) - Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler. Maybe it was the author's plan, or maybe just her writing progressed, but the writing was half-formed at the start and became much clearer towards the end of the book. Either way, it made for a confused beginning. Like I said, she might have been mirroring the progression of the main character, but I did not find it incredibly enjoyable. I did like the description of the restaurant life. and her descriptions of food, taste, and drink were impeccable. I'm intrigued enough to check out the show. Worth reading. 3.5 stars2/5

Just completed my 3rd selection - The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. I feel emotionally wrung out from reading this book. Everything from the way the prose was written, to the descriptions, to the characters, to the way that bits and pieces of the backstory were revealed was artfully and masterfully done. And even though I burst into tears at the thing I never wanted to happen but knew would happen and my heart broke, this is still one of the best books I've read in a long time. Going right into the second book now. Definitely worth reading! 5 stars3/5

Just completed my 4th book - Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple. I really enjoyed the epistolary and mixed media style of this book! It knit the plot together nicely, until the book just ended abruptly. Still worth reading! 4 stars4/5
