Just started the Lord John spinoff trilogy - Lord John and the Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon. I typically love the Outlander series, so I was a bit surprised when the story for this book didn't grab me. It focuses on Lord John Grey, who is an important character in Outlander. The historical accuracy was present, and I enjoyed the characters, but I just couldn't connect with the discussions of soldiering. Still worth reading for the Outlander canon. 3.5 stars

Just completed a Hercule Poirot book - Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie. It's been such a long time since I read Christie that I completely forgot how wonderful her writing is! It's so tight and exacting, all extraneous matters are cut out - completely brilliant! And her characters are beautifully, frightfully crafted with all their seedy imperfections spilling out bit by bit. A must read! 5 stars
