Victoria | 2 comments Hello,
I'm searching for a book I read about 5 years ago. I read it on a kindle I was given by a family member, it was preloaded by them so unfortunately searching my kindle account content doesn't help and I'm not in contact with that person anymore. I don't remember the year it was published, but i don't believe it was a recent release at the time.

All I remember is that it was a mystery book with a male main character, who starts investigating a missing train case that's been unsolved for many years. A female character helps him, a local journalist maybe, I think they ended up dating.
The train went into a tunnel and never came out. I'm pretty sure someone was trying to to stop him searching for it. I recall a scene where his car was sabotaged, I think.

Victoria, what is the story's time period (now and when the train disappeared) and location - country, region, near a well-known city, etc.? Where was the train travelling from/to?

Can you tell us more about the main character - his job, his boss, special skills, interests, personality, rich/poor, etc.?

Pamela Love | 1510 comments A longshot, but part of this sounds a little like Bryant and May Off the Rails, by Christopher Fowler Off the Rails

David | 18 comments This sounds like the short story by Arthur Conan Doyle, "The Story of the Lost Special"

It involves a 'lost train", takes place long after the disappearance, it is told from the point of view of the main protagonist. What it does not have is a female journalist where they start to date. Perhaps you are transposing two stories, or perhaps this just isn't the book you are looking for. Hope this helps.

Here's the Wikipedia summary (with spoilers) of Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Story of the Lost Special" - David's suggestion:

Bargle | 1760 comments I've now read "The Story of the Lost Special" and it doesn't match the OP's description.

Tim Deforest | 18 comments That is one of the plot threads in Night Probe, by Clive Cussler.

Bargle | 1760 comments I just skimmed through Night Probe!. There's enough similarities that I think it may be the right book, but the OP will need to confirm it, of course.

Note to self: correct answer, but not my suggestion.

Victoria | 2 comments Yes, it was Night Probe! I just read a plot summary and yes its defiantly the right one.
Thanks everyone who helped me find this book. It had been many years since i read it when i posted, so details were naturally very fuzzy.
