Makati | 1 comments Hello everybody! :)

I'm new to this group and even though I don't know when I'll be able to start with the challenges, I figured I'd introduce myself.^^
I'm currently 26, living in Austria, doing my master's degree in special needs education and working with a boy with special educational needs. In fact I'm currently working on my master's thesis and I hope to finish my studies this year.
This - and the flash drive full of ebooks I got from a former flatmate - is mainly the reason my TBR isn't shrinking...
I love fantasy and historical fiction, but I'll give a chance to (nearly) every book - sooner or later. ;) My favourite authors... Well, in fact I don't have a real favourite authors, they're just authors whose books I liked and for whose books it is more likely to be picked up by me. Recently I loved Brandon Sanderson's work, Ken Follett is a nearly safe pick for me, and of course J.K. Rowling and J.R.R. Tolkien, just to name a few.
When I'm not reading, I'm playing volleyball, watching TV series or just hang around with friends and family. I love animals, but unfortunately I don't have any pets. My boyfriend and I plan to have a dog and a cat someday.

message 152: by Cathrine (new)

Cathrine Hi!
I'm Cathrine, and I'm from Norway. I currently live way up north and work as a Lower Secondary School teacher. I plan to move back to my home town of Bergen this summer and go into another profession (travel management). I'll go back to school to study it if I don't get a job. I have a cat and a boyfriend in Bergen who I will live with there.

Favourite genres: Fantasy, YA
Favourite authors: Sarah J. Maas, V.E. Schwab, and probably more that I forgot about
Hobbies: Dance, travelling, reading (obviously)

message 153: by Trisha (new)

Trisha (literarilytrisha) | 1 comments Hello everybody! I figured it was high time I posted an introduction. I'm new to the bookish community here but not at all new to reading. I love to read and it will be great to start to really tackle my tbr. I keep adding things to mine constantly.

What genres do you prefer reading? I love fantasy, sci fi, ya, historical fiction and contemporary. I am usually really open with trying just about everything.
Do you have a favorite author? I will always have a special love for JK Rowling and Tolkien.
What are your hobbies? reading, singing, writing, watching films and shows.
Do you go to school? Work? I work with children and I am planning to go back to school soon for child psychology!
Do you have any pets? I have two cats and they're my world.

message 155: by Evi (new)

Evi | 7 comments Hai!
My name is Evi. I'm 23 and live in Antwerp, Belgium. I currently try to get my masters degree in conservation of cultural heritage. In my free time I occasionally draw with pen and ink, knit, and photograph anything that catch my eyes. At home I have six cats (I know a bit much, but they are all sweethearts)

Favourite genres: Weak spot for fantasy, fairy tales/mythologies, and adventure/travel stories.
Favourite authors: Everyone who writes a good book. Last year it was Patrick Rothfuss, Madeline Miller, Fonda Lee, and Ed McDonald.

message 156: by Zara (last edited Mar 23, 2019 04:29PM) (new)

Zara (kind_konfetti) Hi everyone. My name is Zara. I have FINALLY sorted out my tbr! Which means I am READY to PARTICIPATE! I will jump in on April. Of course excited to read and reduce my tbr, but also looking to make friends. This will be the only challenge I participate in next month to stay focused. Let's do this!

Oh and to expand on my introduction:
What genres do you prefer reading? - I love reading most things and I am currently on a thriller kick.

Do you have a favorite author? - JK Rowling/ Robert Galbraith, Matt Haig, Patrick Ness are my instant buys. But there are so many good books and good authors that I need to update that list.

What are your hobbies? - Sadly very little. Every now and again I may colour, do a puzzle, but the only thing I do with real consistency is play Pokemon Go, read, watch Netflix.

Do you go to school? Work? - I work as a doctor so my shifts and rota disrupt my hobbies BUT I am starting a new job April-August where I anticipate a steady rota with no out of hours work and therefore hope to go back to doing a form of sport, and having more time for hobbies.

Do you have any pets? - Sadly my cat died on my birthday in January which triggered a depressive spell but I am doing better now and hoping I have another pet by the end of the year! My sisters also own cats but there's nothing the same as having your own furbaby!

message 157: by Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (last edited Mar 30, 2019 04:50PM) (new)

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 26 comments Hello! I'm Jessica. I just graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree in English. I haven't been able to find a proper job yet but I'm going to the Denver Publishing Institute come July. I've been mainly doing publishing internships and I've gotten back into blogging. I mainly read YA, but will occasionally read MG or adult books. Other than reading, I love to write and am hoping to do Camp Nanowrimo this next month. I also love dogs. When I was in college I walked at the local shelter. I haven't gotten to do that since coming back home (the humane society in my hometown calls for six months of training and by then I hope to have found a job), but I do have three lovely dogs at home. One of the dogs is considered my brother's, Abby, and one is considered my mom's, Sparky (though I'm her second favorite person). All of the dogs are eleven years or older. My own pup, Bella, is turning fifteen later this year and we've been together for almost fourteen years.

I'm glad to be joining this group because my TBR is a mess! I really want to purge the older books off my shelves, but we'll see what books get read!

Alright so, aside from reading, I LOVE make up. I’m literally obsessed with it. I would get up and put on full coverage makeup just to take selfies. My sister says one day my face will fall off from all that load on it haha. I’m a freshman at UMST in Sudan and I study Biomedical Engineering. It’s really fun so far. About pets, I love dogs. Puppies to be more specific. I want to someday own a Siberian Husky or a Pomeranian. All my friends say that when they first met me they thought I was a bitch, so I might come off as rude and brutally honest but I’ll warm up to you, I promise😂😂

Thanks for inviting me to the group. I have created a website that analyze your Goodreads books and give you insights into how many books you have read from each country, how many male and female authors you have read. Also it will recommend you books from countries from which you have never read a book before.
I would love if you check it out and give me some feedback.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Hello there! I may have introduced myself already, but I'm trying to become more active. :) My name is Maggie, and I'm a librarian mom of two from Muskoka. I have loved books for as long as I can remember, and my day just isn't complete without reading a chapter or three! Besides devouring a good book, my hobbies include singing, hiking, writing, and baking. I don't have a favourite genre, but I do tend to finish novels with some family drama quicker. ;) I look forward to making new friends and getting some excellent recommendations.

Five facts about my diet:
I'm vegetarian.
My favorite prepared food is SUSHIE!

My favorite book genre is fantasy/romance/thriller- example: Throne of Glass, ACOTAR, Percy Jackson...

My favorite movie genre is fantasy/futuristic/thriller/little bit of romance.
(I recently watched Resident Evil Afterlife and OMG it was a hit. Definitely a thriller- I have always avoided thriller/horror, but hey, now after watching a couple Resident Evil movies I'm like, oh, this isn't so bad.)

I want to live in California when I grow up.

I am highly interested in Astrophysics, Criminology, Style and I love agriculture, which you may have guessed since I am a farmers daughter.

I think that is all for now!

message 168: by Myrage (new)

Myrage Hey there !

I've been hovering around here a lot without saying anything and I think it's time for me to be more active in the community !
So.. My name is Morgane (but you can call me Myra, because it's way cooler). I'm French so excuse me if I sometimes make dumb mistakes while writing. I had a few book-blogs in the past and I miss doing this sort of things, but life got in the way and I have the nasty habit of never finishing the things I start. But I would love to be as involved in the bookish community as I was when I was younger.

Favorite genre: I tend to read more YA and definitely more Urban Fantasy than anything else. But I try to read from all genre when I feel like it. Right now, I'm in a mystery/thriller mood, for exemple.
Favorite author: Hard to say. I love Cassandra Clare, Leigh Bardugo and Libba Bray, but, in my opnion, I haven't read enough books from them to say if they are my favorite authors or not. I just started binge-reading the Rockton series by Kelley Armstrong, so maybe she'll be a favorite in the future too !
Hobbies: Well, I love to read, obviously. I love to write as well and I'm really into video games and binge-watching TV shows. But I'll say procrastination is my main hobby !
School/Work: I tried going to College but I have pretty bad social anxiety so it really wasn't for me. I worked as a content writer and a translator ever since, on websites like Fiverr. My goal, however, is to create a blog and try making a real income out of that. But I haven't had the nerve to do it for now !
Pets: I have multiple cats at my mom's house, but I just adopted my very first kitten in my new apartment. Her name is Caly.

Like you saw, I also don't know how the the word "short", I always write all paragraphs and I ramble a lot ! Sorry about that ! And happy to be here ♥

R.B. | 2 comments Randomly found this group when I was considering reading my sister's and my mother's books, my sister in particular has a huge bookshelf. She buys a lot, while I read mostly ebooks usually.

I'm noticing a lot of europeans here, I'm Italian.
Officially my favourite genres are fantasy and horror as well as true crime.
I consider my favourite authors the two I started reading as a teen, who made me realize I'm fully capable of finishing a book, but I don't actually like all of their works. Marion Zimmer Bradley and Anne Rice.
Curiously it was my sister that made me start to read Anne Rice, she asked me to borrow a book from the library but she never read it so I did.

My hobbies are common ones, listening to music and reading. Sometimes I watch a movie or try to crochet, but my attention tends to be limited.
I don't work, I'm on disability pension, and we have five cats.

message 181: by Mark (new)

Mark (markpeters) | 4 comments Hi Everyone! What a great idea for a group... I feel like setting monthly TBR goals for myself is just what I need to keep from getting bookishly overwhelmed :)

Anyway, my name is Mark and I live in the U.S. (specifically New York... the state, but not the city!). My favorite genres are fantasy and horror, although I occasionally read romance and science fiction as palate cleansers.

It’s really hard to pick favorite authors, since they change all the time; but off the top of my head, some of them would be Robin Hobb, Laini Taylor, and Ursula K. Le Guin. Basically any author who makes me *feel* something and who writes excellent characters. I’m also reading a Shirley Jackson book for the first time, and I can totally see myself adding her to that list of favorites ;).

Aside from reading, I like watching series/movies, playing games on my iPhone, and spending time with my kids... I have three children, one of whom has special needs, and they mean the world to me! I also work full-time.

Looking forward to chatting more with you all :)

i'm lucy, 22 years of age from the state of california, currently in my teaching credential program to become an elementary school teacher, and, as i'm sure most of you are aware, i am an avid book wanderer.

i love all books, truly. i hate when someone asks me what my favorite book is because i simply can't decide, especially when 20-30 flash through my mind; but i will say that i love YA, Children's Literature, and simply fiction novels. I grew up with my pa reading classic literature to me, so the classics have always and will always hold a special place in my heart.

some things about me: i love matcha tea lattes made with oat milk, i currently own 17 house plants and they are scattered around my room and i love them, i have a cat named winston and i literally love him more than life, i am a Christian :), i love sunflowers - like so much lol, and i love winnie the pooh & all his pals.

i daydream a lot and write in journals about how one day id love to live on the coast of england or ireland in a cottage and spend my days farming and reading and drinking copious amounts of tea. i also daydream about living in a flat in italy and riding a bike everywhere and hosting small dinner parties on thursday evenings and simply living on my own with ole winston boy. i have lots of dreams.

anyways, glad to meet you all & hope we will be besties for the resties- feel free to reach out and add/message me : ) i dont have any socials besides this, sorry about that haha i just cant handle all the negativity i was seeing online :/ i find that it's always safer simply staying in my books (;

i mostly like sci-fi and fantasy, but i'm happy to read anything that piques my interest tbh. one of my favourite authors, alice oseman, is strictly a contemporary author lmao

other than reading i like writing, going for walks, and buying stationary while telling myself that i'm totally going to use it

my family has two dogs! their names are holly and dexter and the worst thing about being at uni is that during term time i don't get to see my dogs :(

feel free to reach out, add me, or message me either here or on other social media! <3

Malli (Chapter Malliumpkin) (chaptermalliumpkin) | 12 comments Da’anzho!

My name is Autumn or Malliumpkin. I'm a 26-year-old, bisexual, Apache. For those who live outside of the United States and may not know, the Apache is one of the First Nation Tribes in the United States. I review books, play video games, and drink way too much coffee!

As of right now, a lot of my social media is on lock down, but here is where you can find me and a lot of the reviews/bookish content I'll be posting (I'm very behind here on GR).

Hana (trashfaerie) | 1 comments Heyyo thanks for the invite!
I’m Hana, I’m 24, and I have a million and one hobbies, reading being one ofc.
I juggle a lot of stuff so sometimes I don’t have time to read! But I keep ordering books online and checking out new ones and aaahhh, why do I do this to myself???

Either way I’m glad to be here and hopefully I’ll get through the leering, restless stack of books on my nightstand. <3

A Darker Shade of Rosie (adarkershadeofrosie) | 4 comments Hi, I’m new here! My name is Rosie 👋🏻 My favorite genres include fantasy, sci-fi and rom-coms, usually in the realm of YA. My favorite author is Laini Taylor, because she is just pure magic. Outside of books, I work full time at a daycare and have my own little boy, Rowan (and yes, I got the name from Throne of Glass 😏). My other hobbies include being a snack distributor, a human trampoline, a crumb catcher, and also scrolling mindlessly on my phone until I feel like a screen zombie. 🙃

Mika | 4 comments Hi, I'm Mika! I'm really bad at staying updated in groups, but trying to do better with that. So I thought I'd join this group (even though I'm about to start school again which will take a ton of my time). I usually only read young adult, but I'm really open to anything interesting. My favorite authors are Holly Black, Tricia Levenseller, and Cassandra Clare. Anyway, happy reading y'all!

lacy white (ravensandlace) Hello! My name is Lacy and I'm 27 years old. I work as a dietary aide in a nursing home. I'm a huge gamer. The games I play are World of Warcraft and Overwatch. I just recently bought a gaming PC so I'm relearning how to play games again. lol. I am also a photographer and I own a canon rebel t3i named Annabelle.

I live with my boyfriend, who isn't a reader at all but that's okay! He puts up with my huge amount of books and overall is an amazing guy!

I do have a blog and you can find the link here.. My favorite genre is historical fiction but honestly, I'll read just about anything if it sounds good!

Hi, Reed. Please type all future messages in normal text/font formatting and not these special characters. They're difficult to read for many people, and even worse for visually impaired people who use screen-readers. :( We want to make sure everyone is able to communicate easily here!

As far as your question goes, yes, you will be reading your own books. We don't do specific group reads here, just themed prompts. :) Welcome in!
