04 - A book you think should be turned into a movie

Indian Horse is a movie already, and so good!
I am taking the easy way out with this one. I don't ever really remember thinking that some book should be turned into a movie and often they have already been anyway. But I am already listening to (but won't finish, I try to finish another audiobook) Belgravia by Julian Fellowes who is a screenwriter (Downton Abbey, Gosford Park etc.), so it would probably look good as a movie, as well.
I read Radium Girls in 2018. The entire time I read it I kept thinking how is this not a movie. Seems like a book that Oprah Winfrey or Reece Witherspoon would pick up.
I would say Paper Ghosts for this one. While reading it I kept on thinking this would make a gripping movie!
I would love to see an adaptation of Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers Of London series so I'm going to pick the next one in the series for me which is Whispers Underground
This one confuses me a little. How can you say whether a book should be turned into a movie or not if you haven't read it yet?

I know that I will read some non-challenge books throughout the year so if one of those end up being really good, it can count for this prompt, or if I have books that fit multiple prompts and need to shift things around I can slot something here if need be.
i chose An Absolutely Remarkable Thing for this prompt.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
my library is super comfy so they let customers read as much as they want, which is perfect for me cause i never know if i like a book unless i´ve read the forst 1 chapters. so i am aready 30 pages into that book and i just had to bring this baby home with me.
i LOVE Gundam Wing, Evangelion, Transformers and all that stuff. i think it´s pferfekt movie material ^_^
@ comment above
i also wish The Selection was turned into a movie!

I read a lot more than 50 books per year, so I know that sometime during the year I'll read a book I love that doesn't doesn't fit into other categories.
It helps that I do not need to have all my books planned at the beginning of the year like many of you do. If I did, I'd pick a book by an author I love whose other books have or would make great movies and hope for the best.
Sarah wrote: "I read Eleanor & Park for the book set in the decade you were born prompt this year, and the whole time I couldn't believe it wasn't already a movie (Shannon Purser was born to play..."This is a doubly great call - would be an incredible movie and would be great casting!
Chris wrote: "This one confuses me a little. How can you say whether a book should be turned into a movie or not if you haven't read it yet?"For me, I chose my selection here less on how it will look on screen (because I don't know...I haven't read it yet!) and more about the subject it covers. I think it's an important one, and movies are a great way of getting a message across.
Teri wrote: "Maybe I'll wait to read Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty until January. Since I think almost all of her books should be movies, maybe I'll think it of this one as well."Good call, I had forgotten about her and I agree - most of them would be good movies (or mini series).
I was struggling with the idea of re-reading, as I don't want to re-read and will probably end up doing so for the nostalgia prompt anyway...
Books I have loved since childhood (and will probably re read for nostalgia) and have been wanting to see as a movie (or ideally, a a series... c'mon netflix...) are those by Tamora Pierce. Recently introduced my friend to them and she also enjoyed (despite the lack of childhood love for them). John Marsden is another author that springs to mind - tomorrow when the war began has been made into a movie and mini-series, but there are 6 more books in that series, plus a sequel series, plus other books he has written.

I'm not sure anyone has pointed that out, but Ruby Red actually got 3 movies. They're a german production and don't completely follow the books but they are really good nonetheless.
I have always thought The Shadow of the Wind could be an amazing film. I know most people on here are pretty strongly opposed to re-reading books and counting them toward the challenge. I, personally, am someone who finds great comfort and joy in rereading books I love. With as busy as I am, I could never read 40+ books in a year without counting every book I read. I feel like this could be a prompt that could justify a reread counted for the challenge.
Sandra wrote: "I think I found the perfect book for this prompt: P.S. Always and Forever, Lara Jean has been sitting on my shelf for over a year, and as the third movie hasn't yet been announced by Netflix I feel like it's perfect!

Well, you can choose a book for a prompt after having read it....
Katy wrote: "What I don't understand is how we would know what book we would want turned into a movie before we actually read the book? This one is going to drive me nutsos."I'm also finding this prompt most annoying. Aside the obvious "how will I know until I've read it" I have the added complication that I don't really watch movies. I have no idea what would make me think a book should be turned into a movie. I'm just going to watch the thread and then pick a book someone else thinks should be made into a movie :)

Oh, I agree about The Shadow of the Wind!
Personally, I am not worrying too much about this prompt. I have listed Children of Virtue and Vengeance, the second in the Adeyemi's Legacy of Orisha's series since I loved the first installment released in 2018 and I know it is already being made into a movie, so I can rather assume this second book will probably be viewed in the same light. But I also listed a couple of others that I think *may* qualify as good movie material in my mind. I feel there will be at least one book I read throughout 2019 that I will believe would translate into a good movie! It's just my opinion, so it doesn't have to meet anyone else's criteria! :)

I'm thinking of reading either The Summer of Jordi Perez or The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue. Or any other books with queer narratives as not enough of them get made into movies.
I've seen The Invisible Library mentioned here, and it's been on my TBR, so I'm gonna go with that.I'd also recommend Meddling Kids or anything from The Dresden Files.
I'm halfway through The Looking Glass Wars and think it would make an awesome movie. I'm not a big fan of Alice in Wonderland but I'd love to see this version of it.
I'm currently reading A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness and it is one of the only fictional stories I have thoroughly enjoyed in a long time. I was thinking this morning the story would make a great movie series or television series. A friend shared with me today that Sundance is planning to make a television series and I expect it will be fantastic and popular!

I've seen adverts for it, but not the show itself so can't say whether it's any good.
Any Georgette Heyer, but especially her mysteries like Envious Casca which was recently reissued as A Christmas Party.
So... I know that the rights have already been sold but I 100% recommend Caraval for this. Nothing has been announced that it IS going to be a movie yet, so I think it could still count?
I agree Claire. Film rights for books get sold all the time without any solid plans to ever make the movie. And as long as the movie isn't made yet or in production, I would say any book you think should be made into a movie counts.
I just finished There There and I'm not sure if I'm going to use it for this prompt but definitely think it would make a great movie. In fact, with all the buzz it's gotten, I'll be surprised if it isn't optioned for a film or TV series.

I was going to recommend this one to others, already read it myself so got to read something new to me that’s ideal now.
I went with A Court of Thorns and Roses. It seemed to your pretty straightforward fantasy adventure/romance that would translate well to film and yes, that is exactly what it was.
I just read Swear on This Life and think it would be the best chick flick!! My fave kind of movie. Sweet, sappy love story! ❤️
Sarah wrote: "Urgh. I don't really do series, and I'm not a big re-reader. I agree that it would make a great film
Rose wrote: "The night circus or the thirteenth tale...its a hard decision"The Thirteenth Tale has been made into a film.
I read The Home for Unwanted Girls for this one. I think it would be a difficult book to movie translation, but if done well would be fabulous!

Are they originally in German?? Cause I could watch those... :-)
Tytti wrote: "Rose wrote: "The night circus or the thirteenth tale...its a hard decision"The Thirteenth Tale has been made into a film."
It was a bbc tv drama when I saw ana adaptation, I’ve not seen a film.
I'm surprised that a few people have recommended The Historian for this prompt. I enjoyed it but a lot of this was people reading old books and manuscripts. I don't think it would translate well to screen without a lot of exposition.I suppose it worked for The Da Vinci Code
Tytti wrote: "Rose wrote: "The night circus or the thirteenth tale...its a hard decision"The Thirteenth Tale has been made into a film."
Two of my favoritest books ever!! I was going to go with the Night Circus though for the same category.
I read Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny. I am addicted to cop shows like SVU and the Chicago shows, but this would be good for TV or a movie. She really hooks you on the characters and setting. The series is already at 13 books.
Etiquette & Espionage I think done right, this could be awesome as a film, the hard part would be deciding whether to focus on the clothes so leaning more towards a period film or the whole female spies, a school in the sky, steampunk and supernatural elements

Sunshine
The Bear and the Nightingale
The Tethered Mage
The Black God's Drums
These are all really good books too. The first book is a stand alone and the last book is a stand alone novella. The two in the middle are the first in series.
