Astronomy studies celestial objects and phenomena. It applies mathematics, physics, and chemistry, in an effort to explain their origin and evolution. This includes planets, moons, stars, galaxies, and comets; the phenomena include supernova explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cosmic microwave background radiation. In other words, anything that originates outside Earth's atmosphere is within the purview of astronomy.

So excited about this! I'm off to put it into as many prompts as possible. I don't even care that it's a year away from release!

I really enjoyed that book - she has a lot of pop-culture references in it, including (obviously) several David Bowie references.

You're welcome! I still have A Constellation of Vital Phenomena on my 2019 plan (even though I've been tempted to change it 1,402,037 times!) It's been on my TBR List since August 2013 (omg!) so I really need to read it.

Ugh......another one I've been meaning to try, but I would have to start at the beginning with The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet.

I need to stay off the threads now, lol

I loved that audiobook. I think I'm going to use the next one (Mr. Kiss and Tell) for my "related to a TV show" category.

message 27: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Haha, Tracy, I definitely need to stop reading these threads so much. My TBR is growing every time I so much as glance at the weekly topics folder! I thought I was fairly settled on my book choices for quite a few prompts but now I'm reconsidering as I see what other people have chosen.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Bryony, that's how I've ended up with 10-15 choices for each prompt! It's going to be hard to narrow it down each week....

message 29: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I'm thinking of doing The Mars Room with Artemis as my back up idea

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) The Black Hole seems perfect for this. Though, I have realized that with the number of indie authors and free kindle books I'm trying to check off my TBR, I might need some back up options in case I DNF them for being terrible.

I also own:

Last Star Burning
The Gods of Mars

And now I'm excited about Aurora Rising since this is the first I've heard of it!

message 31: by Liz (new)

Ginny Moon
Muse of Nightmares (cover)
The Starless Sea - this one sounds awesome!

redatt (mini_sagas) | 66 comments I was leaning towards Solar by Ian McEwan, but then I spotted The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon on my local supermarket's 'second-hand charity bookshelf' and couldn't resist picking it up, so now I'm thinking I'll read that.

On the other hand, Solar is shorter ... so we'll see.

I haven't read The Sun is also a Star ( I think I have it on my plan for next year), but if its anything like her writing in Everything, Everything, it should be a quick read regardless of length. Its also been highly recommended by a few people around here.

Michelle H | 72 comments So I ended up reading my original choice already, haha. My new choice for this prompt for 2019 is The Map of Salt and Stars by Jennifer Zeynab Joukhadar The Map of Salt and Stars

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 452 comments I'm going to read a quick one for this, but I've heard that it's really good and as space-ish stuff isn't really my thing both those aspects appeal! So I'm going with The Lady Astronaut of Mars.

The Sun is Also a Star will definitely read quicker than Ian McEwan's book! His writing tends to be pretty dense, even when the books are short.

Mom2triplets04 | 118 comments This book I started reading in 2018 but never finished it. So I"m going to continue reading it and hopefully finish in 2019. It's also on my 19 for 2019 reading list. I have trouble reading large books. So I"ll attempt to read it again. It's Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

Stacey D. | 1908 comments Okay, so, I have a dilemma here and need your help, fellow readers. I chose The Pisces for this challenge, but I'm not sure it fits. While the challenge specifies an astronomical term, I read it as an astrological term, and chose this book. Pisces is defined as a constellation, so I think it meets the challenge...

Still, what do you all think?

I'm face-palming here. 2019 is off to a rousing start! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'd totally count it! It's a space-y term, which is good enough for me.

But it's your challenge, so it's totally your call if you want to use it or not!

I've been struggling with this prompt myself, and I just re-read the prompt, and it says "RELATED to an astronomical term". I've been thinking the title had to contain a common astronomical term, such as moon or star, etc, but "related to" definitely broadens the search, IMO. Since Pisces is a constellation, I think it would definitely fit. Now, I'm off to search for a book!

Popsugar has the "astrological term" category this year - were you thinking of that one? I know I have to keep double checking for which challenge I'm looking at!!

Sun and Star in the title.

As mentioned by others, I'm finding this a quick read. I only started on the weekend and am already at 50%. The short chapters help (just one more chapter, just one more chapter :P). I'm enjoying it.

Thanks for your vote, Emily. I'm really enjoying this weird, sexy book, so I'm sticking with it. It has absolutely nothing to do with space, by the way.

Good luck in your pursuit, Betty. I'd been looking forward to reading this one for a while and so far it doesn't disappoint, so I'll stick with it. So far I've only come across one reference to Pisces, which is the main character's astrological sign, but I'm loving this novel just the same :)

message 50: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Pisces is in the title, and it's a constellation of stars, so I'd say it 100% fits.
