Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke
Read: Dec. 23 to Jan. 3 Rating: 4.5 stars
*Edgar Award: 2018 Novel
Feelings? It is not a hard mystery-type novel. It's actually more like a cozy mystery in that everything has already happened and we are following the lead. However tension, especially racial, is rampant and definitely NOT "cozy". Her descriptions are great and I think this may be the reason why Ms. Locke won "the best Novel" prize from the Edgar Awards. What is interesting is that Ms. Locke built the story on race, used it to structure every little thing(as it is always present in our lives) but in the end gave her characters freedom to live. She has set it up nicely for this MC to start his own series and the ending was somber, cliff-hanging, and enjoyable.
Recommend for ALL readers especially Mystery enthusiasts. 👌

Let's Search for the Comet We Saw Together by Emi Mitsuki
Read: Jan. 18 Rating: 4 stars
Feelings? Got a little confused at the end. Wish it had a more solid end but the whole story had a much more mature tone. Overall I would say, the ending does match--- but aargh!! Gosh! They were such adults ... but they worked so hard to be together. ^_^ Real life for many working couples out there.

ラッキーナンバー13 1 Lucky Number 13, #1 by Kotetsuko Yamamoto
Read: Jan. 16 Rating: 3.5 stars
Feelings? There were dangerous accidents and big incidents but luckily most were smaller (more fun!) instances. Don't know about how much love there is ... but it's obviously there since the man is willing to go through so much, just not as apparent.
Also read: ラッキーナンバー13 2 Lucky Number 13, #2 3 stars (1/17/19)

I Am Jane Goodall by Brad Meltzer
Read: Jul. 9 Rating: 4 stars
Feelings? Very cute biography on Jane Goodall. An amazing person and a perfect inspiration. Even as she grew from childhood and beyond, they kept her face like the lady you see today rather than age her as the story progresses. Very nice and perfect for this theme: Inspired by old.
👌 Recommend for 'Read-a-loud' time and children under 5 yrs.
AND . . .

思い過ごしも恋の内 Omoisugoshi mo Koi no Uchi by Sakurako Yamada
Read: Jan. 11 Rating: 4 stars
Relationship between mother and son is 21 years, her new husband's age difference is 21 older than her. Son has conflicted feelings and the friend/crush that he tells, reminds him what love is.
Feelings? Happy stories except for the actual one described (above), which is a coming-of-story. (ironic!)

晴れてボクたちは Harete Bokutachi wa by Kotetsuko Yamamoto
Read: Jan. 27 to 31 Rating: 3 stars
New relationship between two childhood friends who have not seen each since elementary school. (Not as deep as it sounds- it's only been about 5 years.)
Feelings? Not as lovey-dovey as usual with Yamamoto's writings. I like that they went through the pains and immaturities of teenage confusion and that "Spoiler!" ... they end up together in the end ...
in an ambiguous relationship, that is somewhat answered in the book: ドキドキレンアイ Dokidoki Renai (read 1/31/19).

You Don't Own Me by Mary Higgins Clark
Read: May 17th to 22nd Rating: 4 stars
Borrowed from the library on May 16th.
Feelings? Interesting run-a-round when finding the killer and the stalker. The subplots make it obvious that this is a ongoing series, however I like the character development of one of the supporting characters (it's obvious which one! I wonder what the story is behind that--would love a romantic backstory).

Play Boy Blues 1 by Shiuko Kano
Read: Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 Rating: 4 stars
Feelings? Relationships can get promiscuous but the two main characters really do seem to love each other. While this (book) isn't an advocation for open love, it has unintentionally opened my horizons and temper my more conservative feelings on the matter.

STATUS: As of July 9th - EXTRA!

Fujimi Orchestra by Koo Akizuki
Read: Feb. 3 to Feb. 7 Rating: 4.5 stars
Cold violinist to an appealing conductor.
Feelings? The emotions are shown quite vividly however there is a feeling that somethings just aren't said. I wondered if perhaps I were missing something? However the emotions unspoken are actually just details missing because this is a manga adaption of the novel series: 寒冷前線コンダクター 富士見二丁目交響楽団シリーズ (角川ルビー文庫).
Wish there was more and there is! Fujimi Sorufēju (d/d/d) <-- Plan on reading this after a couple book completions.

Feelings? Yummy descriptions. Love the food ... if only it were all real. Second time reading it-- well, hearing it. Both movies seemed super accurate, it's amazing actually. I, once watched a Youtube video on things you didn't notice before as a child ... those labor-law violations with the Oompa-Loompas are actually obvious. He, literally says, "cacao beans for work". 😅 I'm pretty sure that I wondered for a minute as a child because I thought they were slaves, which they are! But all I could think was . . . 😬 AT LEAST it's a book??? Honestly, at that point I was just glad the Oompa-Loompas got food. Cause I was really worried how 7 people were going to survive when 4 of them couldn't even get out of bed, supposedly.

Read: Jan. 12 Rating: 3 stars
Feelings? Now that I'm older ... middle school seems young, but I knew a girl who got pregnant at 15 so it is obviously natural. Luckily only one couple started seeing each other in middle school, everyone else coupled up in high school.

Scandalous Seiryo University, Volume 01 by Kazuto Tatsukawa
Read: Jan 17 to 18 Rating: 2 stars
Feelings? It was interesting but the story was disorganized, that may be the translation and mixed up order of pages early on. Later it was a typical manga, although a little too quick to fall in love for me personally.

Crime Scene by Jesse Kellerman and Jonathan Kellerman
Read: Jun. 16 Rating: 3.5 stars
Feelings? Slightly hectic storyline and seriously, I had no idea what poor girl was but she was trying to grieve for a basically non-existent (in her life!) father. I guess, props to Clay for getting both girls in his life at least once?
The timeline was actually a little blurry, cause for a while I thought Clay was an actual player. Sleeps with one girl in one chapter then the other, a chapter later. Wished they emphasized a little more the distance in time? Cause the book is kind of like a Law&Order episode, where all the events take months not minutes. Perhaps it was because I was listening rather than reading? They did a good job at the end: emphasized the time and how long it took to wrap the investigation.

Feelings? A fantasy world in which a normal human learns to live in and love. However, he is absolutely obsessed with providing these other worldly people the joy of japanese cuisine: Okonomiyaki & Takoyaki. And make them love octopus as much as they love squid!
