Jeff cursed the heat and the mule as his engery sapped form him in the blaring evening sun.

Lucy was dismissed from work early. She sighed and collected her things and walked out into the city.(wait, they know each other right?))
Jeff could see the afternoon sun dipping in the horizon but he still had many hours of work left to do.((Sure if you want them to))
(( yeah lets just say they know each other)) Lucy sat on a bench and swung her feet, not caring at how un-ladylike it was.
Jeff was just finishing the last row for the night and he sighed a heavy sigh of relief.((okay))
Lucy walked up trails along the forest to get home. The eerie chill and silence of the night sent a shiver down her spine.
Jeff slowly unhooked the mule and watered and cared for it, the moon rising as he did so.
The image of a rabbit running down this same path flashed across her eyes. She blinked it away quizzically. A snap of twigs behind her made her jump and dart around.
Jeff leaned against a tree exhausted and thinking of nothing but dinner.
The ground ruffled as something made it's way toward her. Lucy gasped and drips over a branch, landing on her butt.
Jeff turned to go inside but remembered he forgot to feed the family milk cow.
A bunny walked up to Lucy. She would have been okay with it, but this bunny only had half of it's skin on, bugs a flies whizzing around the empty eye sockets of the creature. Lucy screamed.
Jeff heard a scream in the dark and ran toward it, his heart racing his eyes wide all thoughts of how tired he was left him.
Lucy breathed hard as she tried to scamper away, kicking the bunny at her feet.
Jeff burst onto the trail as Lucy kicked at the air at her feet."Lucy" he shouted.
Lucy looked back as she heard her name. She couldn't make out so it was but she recognized the voice. "Jeff!" She said frantically. She looked at her feet. The bunny was gone.
"You okay Lucy" he asked "I heard a scream"
"I...there was...um..." She stammered. How could she explain herself when there was nothing there. "I thought I saw something." She decided to say.
He nodded "Lots of shadows in theses woods.And very strange things" he replied "Would you like me to escort you home?"
"Y-yes please." She stuttered as she stood up and wiped off her skirts.
Jeff smiled and walked over to stand next to her.
She inhaled shakily and forced a smile as he walked over.
He began to walk down the track not noticing how shook up she was.
Lucy hugged her arms around herself. "So, how was your day?" She asked, evening her breathing.
Jeff shrugged" Same as any day, work my guts out on my dads farm. How about yours?"
"Got let off early again." Lucy said with a disappointed sigh.
Jeff looked at her in a sideways glance "That dose not sound good".
"It isn't good. That's the problem." She exhaled sharply.
"Everything okay"? he asked with real concern.
"Not really." She said in a small voice, biting her lip.
Jeff walked with her in silence for a while his thoughts on her. "What are you going to do?"
Lucy shrugged. "I don't know. Living off two hours of sleep almost ever night tends to block my brain."
"Yeah< I can only imagine ,Why are you only sleeping two hours a night?"
"Nightmares." She mumbled to the ground.
Jeff could only nod he had never had nightmares, he didn't even think he could dream at all."Sorry to hear that" he mumbled.
She nodded and sighed deeply. No one understood.
"So have you seen a physician about your nightmares?" he inquired.
Lucy shook her head. "No, I dont think that would help." She told him.
"Well you have to ry something Lucy" he said a little to loudly.
Lucy stopped and turned to face him. "It's not that simple, Jeff. I would do it if I knew it would help." She said ruefully.
"What do you think would help?" he asked her.
"I...I don't know." She said, looking at her shoes.
"You have to try don't you? You can't let them control you"
"But I don't know what could stop them. Ever since they started..." She trailed off into a whisper.
Jeff sighed he wanted to help her but had no idea how he could.
Lucy sighed again and dug her hands into the pockets of her coat.
"If you got off early, how come you are so late getting home? Wont your Pa be worried?"
"Thankfully he's not home." Lucy said.
