"Then dismount and we will talk in the house" Jeff said as he watched Ben.

"I can't. I'm running on a timer. Listen, come with me and stay for a few days. If the place is not to your liking, you are free to leave."
"All I have is your word on that. No offense but I think I will need more than that to trust you"
"What can I do to gain your trust?"
Jeff sighed "Dismount and bring the horse here slowly. Lucy will ride and I will lead the horse and you will walk in front. Got it?"
"I have a horse waiting about a mile from where I came. Less suspicious. I'll do as you ask until we reach the horse, then I shall ride that one. "Deal?"
"Okay but you better move slow and easy" Jeff replied wating for the man to approach with the horse.
Ben dismounted and took ahold of the reigns, leading the horse sloshy up to them.
Jeff took the reins with his free hand. "Now back up and sit down". He told Ben.
Ben put his hands up again and stepped back. Lucy fidgeted with with hands.
Jeff led the horse sideways so Luck could mount the horse, His eyes never leaving Ben.
Lucy smiled a little and petted the horse before carefully hauling herself up onto the horse. "Her name is Rosie." Ben said.
Jeff helped Lucy the best he could , then he took the reins and and led the horse a little ways "Lets go then" he said to Ben.
Ben shoved his hands deep into his pockets and followed behind them.
"Led the way" Jeff told Ben "I have no idea where your camp is."
Ben jogged up ahead of them and lead the way. They found the horse tied to a tree a few minutes later. Ben smiled and untied him, then mounted him.
Jeff scowled at Ben, then mounted the horse behind Lucy his arms wrapping around her.
Lucy smiled and looked over her shoulder at Jeff. "Follow me." Ben said, trotting ahead of them.
Jeff rested his chin on Lucy's shoulder and whispered to her "Be careful". The horse trotted after Ben's and their bodies swayed with the rocking of the horse.
"We need the food, Jeff." She whispered back, leaning back against him.
"I know, but we still cant just blindly trust them. We just have to be ready for anything" He responded leaning into her and watching the tree line.
"I'll watch you if you watch me." She said teasingly with a grin.
"I am always watching you" he replied in a serious tone.
She held the reins in one hand and reached down and over, squeezing his knee reassuringly. "I know."
"You do?" he asked a little surprised. Her hand on his knee made it suddenly warmer than it should have been.
She nodded and sighed as their bodies jerked as the horses trotted.
He gave her a tight squeeze and then turned to thoughts in his own mind.
They rode for almost hour, the sun setting. It was dusk by the time the small camp came into view, mute voices muffling around and dull lanterns.
Jeff tensed as the camp came into view, he held Lucy tighter as his anxiety rose.
Ben commanded the horse into a stop, the other horse mimicking his. Ben dismounted and nodded for Lucy and Jeff to do the same.
Jeff dismounted and reached up to help Lucy his hands gripping her waist. Jeff looked around the camp as members of the camp stared at them.
Lucy held onto his shoulders and jumped down, landing on her good leg and keeping the other slightly bent at the knee. She leaned against Jeff, gazing at the campers as well. Suddenly, a small girl around the age of six run up to Ben. "Ben Ben!" She laughed, jumping up into his arms. Ben scooped her up and twirled her around.
Jeff took in the camp. They all seemed to be tired but in good spirits. He began to relax a little as he look around the camp. He still held Lucy close to him. "Is there anyone that can help with her leg?" Jess asked.
Ben gently set the little girl down and knelt down to be eye level with her. "Marie, can you be so kind and escort miss Lucy here to your mother where she can get her leg checked out and fresh clothes for dinner?"Marie smiled and walked iop
Marie walked up to Lucy and took her hand.**
Jeff watched worried not willing to leave Lucy just yet.
"You can trust Marie. Her mom is the best nurse-and only one- in this camp. Besides, I'm going to take you to the men's part of camp to also get ready. Dinner is in an hour." He said to Jeff.
Jeff looked at Lucy then squeezed her hand and let her go.
"You'll see her in no time." Ben said, tapping Marie on the shoulder. Lucy pecked Jeff on the cheek before letting Marie drag her away.
Jeff watched them go then he turned to Ben.
"Follow me." Ben smiled, walking around the perimeter of the camp.
Jeff followed ben his eyes wary, but they had not disarmed him so he was starting to trust them.
Ben stopped at a rather large tent. "Clothes for you will be in here. When you're done getting washed up, make your way to the middle of the camp. You'll see a fire."
Jeff nodded and wondered why they were being so good to him and Lucy. Jeff turned and stepped into the tent looking for fresh clothes and a place to wash up.
A few minutes later, Lucy stepped out of her tent wearing white blouse that was tucked into a long, blood red skirt that hid her black shoes. She wasn't known to wear elegant clothes, but she admitted she felt more like a women then ever before. Her hair was pulled back into a knot at the back of her head. Marie's mother cleansed and bandaged her leg and even gave her a wooden cane to walk.
Jeff found the clothes and a wash basin with a bucket of water. He quickly scrubbed himself clean,it had been such a long time since he had done that it felt so good to be clean again.When he was all clean he headed to the center of the camp with a spring in his step.
Little Marie escorted Lucy to the centre of camp where everyone was sitting around the fire on benches, cooking and collecting food. Marie handed Lucy a black shawl to keep her warm. "Thank you." Lucy smiled and wrapped it around her shoulders and stood a little bit away from everyone else as Marie skipped away.
As Jeff approached the gathering of people he scanned the crowed looking for Lucy. He didn't recognize her at firs glance and he began to worry until he noticed her at the edge of the crowd. His heart skipped a beat he could hardly believe his eyes she looked so stunning in her new out fit.
Lucy didn't notice Jeff as she smiled at a group of young children running around her. But she looked over to be side and smiled more when she noticed Jeff looking at her, which made her blush.
Jeff walked over to her and wrapped an arm around her possessively wondering how many men in the camp were thinking the same thing he was.
