Beth (yogibethc) | 17 comments My husband told me about this short story he read in the 1970s, and I'd love to find it for him! Here is what I know:

The story is from the 1970s or perhaps the VERY early 80s.

The story was part of anthology with likely multiple authors and likely a sci fi compilation.

The story involved angels and the creation of humans. Specifically, the angels were working on the creation of human emotions. The angels are in an Eden-type setting, possibly heaven. Different groups of angels were working on different emotions, complex emotions like grief and regret. But Lucifer kept wandering away from the groups to be on his own, which was discouraged. He liked to be at the edge where there was a darkness; he was fascinated by this. Eventually, this leads to his banishment among the humans.

That's all I know! But if I'm lucky someone around my age (50_ or older will have read it and remember.

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments It really sounds like Murder Mysteries by Neil Gaiman, collected in Smoke and Mirrors: Short Fiction and Illusions. But maybe that’s too new.

Beth (yogibethc) | 17 comments Rosa, thanks for that! It does sound somewhat similar, but there was no murder in my husband's story. Also, 2002 would be way too late--my husband read this story as a boy, and we were in our 30s in 2002. ;)

Thank you for trying!

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments I’m sure it’s still not your story, but it was first published in 1992 in Midnight Graffiti, and in other collections around then, too. You can see them all here.

Beth (yogibethc) | 17 comments Thanks for clarifying, Rosa; I missed the original date. But you are right, it would still be a little late for when my husband read it.
