~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Hi everyone!! Looking forward to playing with you all. One of my favorite team challenges. I can never say no to, lol :)
I live an hour outside of Chicago Illinois. CST for me. Married with two children. Just dropped off our oldest (son) at College in Missouri a few weeks ago. What a mixed bag of emotions that day was. Have a daughter in High School. Two dogs - they are in my profile pic along with my daughter. I work full time as well in the healthcare field. I don't wish to captain.

Ezi ~ yeah, two team challenges together!!

message 6: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 1240 comments Hello all!!

My time zone is also CST. I live in Louisiana.

Married (17 yrs) with kids (23, 18, 16. 12 ~ turns 13 next month). So that makes one in the military, one in college, one in high school and one in jr. high school.

I also work full time outside the home, so in essence two full time jobs.

I am an avid reader (audio, ebook, paper or hard cover) and a challenge addict with this challenge being one of my favs.

Sam | 610 comments Hi team. My name is Sam. I live in eastern time zone (Ohio) but I am nocturnal so my postings are usually at weird times. I've only played this game once before but I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to playing it again. And playing with all of you.

message 8: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 509 comments Hi, all! I'm excited to get started! I've played this a couple times in the past and really loved it!

I'm also in Illinois, so Central Time Zone for me too. I'm married with three kids, ages 4, 2 1/2, and 18 months. All three are boys, so it's very noisy in my house, lol. Reading gives me a chance to decompress after running around after them all day!

Hi 👋🏾 Teammates.
I know all of you so I’m excited to be on your team. This should be fun.

I’m a wife (15yrs), mom of 3 young ones (11yr old daughter, 9&7 yr old boys). We have sports everyday between 21 hours Gymanstics, Basketball and Baseball for the boys.
Reading (and late night eating) have been my stress relief. I’m working on the eating thing to be healthier.

I’m also trying to read less and watch more tv. But when This is Us, Vikings, The Last Kingdom or Poldaek comes back, don’t call me or come over unless you are dying 😂

Right now I plan to try Cable Girls or Alias Grace on Netflix this week. Let me know if you have tried it.

I’m also enjoying KC Undercover, Bunk’d, Raven’s home with my kids 😂

Names: 2 Fast 2 Furious Readers
2 all the books I’ve loved before (saw the movie on Netflix To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1) by Jenny Han

Hope you all come up with better names

message 10: by Sam (new)

Sam | 610 comments I'm horrible at coming up with names. Sorry. Also who is going to be captain?

message 11: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 509 comments I like 2 Fast 2 Furious Readers. I'll try and think of some other options too, but I am not creative at all, lol.

message 12: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 3939 comments Hello!!! Glad to be here with you all... I see many names and peeps I know. And a couple new ones.

I'm married 25 yrs, have 18 and 22 y/o boys. One in college (but at home) and one a senior. I feel lots of changes coming in the next year. We also have a dog and a cat (21 y/o!!!)

I'm in Indiana which makes me Eastern time zone. Yeah, I know. We're that weird state. I'm in the middle of the state in a suburb of Indianapolis.

I like the 2 Fast 2 Furious Readers. I also like 2 All the Books I Loved.... not much help there, I guess...

Can't wait to get started!

~Melissa~, I am so excited to be with you again.

any volunteers for captain duties?

message 15: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 509 comments I like Double the Pleasure Double the Fun.

I would prefer not to be captain, but could do it if no one else wants the job. :-)

message 16: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Due to work I'm unable to do captain duties. I am usually up early Friday am ( 6 am ish CST) ~ so could help with the roll if everyone has reviews in by night before or by the time I'm up.

message 18: by Sam (new)

Sam | 610 comments Double the Pleasure, Double the Fun is fine with me.

If no one else really wants to be captain, I can be captain. I have a nocturnal schedule and am awake at 6am eastern time so as long as we all have our books read by Thursday night, it could work.

So turns out the mod wasn't paying attention when writing up the bonus point requirements, so here's an update to the starting and finishing a series bonus. What it was meant to say is:

✸ One point can be earned for starting and finishing a series. There must be at least 4 books in that series. Series + spin-off totalling ≥4 books also counts. For series with >9 books, point will be awarded for reading books 1-9.

With all players checked in and a sizeable list of back-ups, I'm making some last minute additions to the smaller teams.
Paula will be joining you.

message 27: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Hi Paula ~ welcome to the team :)

message 28: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 300 comments Hola/Hello!

I'm Paula, I'm 28 y-o and a chemical engineer working in mining consultancy. I'm not married xD I don't have kids, I have a boyfriend and I have a dog named Buffon, but I still live with my parents, I know that must seem weird, but it's common where I'm from. I'm from Chile (South America) my time zone is GMT - 3 (1 more hour than EST time)

This is my first time playing this challenge, I hope to advance in my series while I'm at it hahaha.

I'm sorry if my english isn't perfect =P, but my native language is spanish

I love the name of the team btw

Sam | 610 comments Hi Paula! Welcome to the team.

message 32: by Sam (new)

Sam | 610 comments So I can't find that there is a scheduled time on Fridays to roll the dice (it just says US Central Time). So I was thinking of rolling in the early hours of the morning, say 1-2 AM eastern? That would be Midnight to 1 AM central (if my time converter is working properly). How does that work for everyone? Then when you get up to start your day, your roll will be done and waiting for you.

wow! you sure are a night owl :)
sounds good to me ~ I'll check when I wake up for our spot

message 34: by Sam (last edited Sep 13, 2018 02:21PM) (new)

Sam | 610 comments Melissa, my usual schedule is that I wake up around 5pm and go to bed around 8-9am. I work nights and keep the same schedule even on the nights I don't work. It's easier than trying to flip back and forth.

message 35: by Sam (last edited Sep 13, 2018 02:27PM) (new)

Sam | 610 comments Do we want to discuss bonus points? I know that I'll be able to earn the use no alternatives list because I like reading my series for this challenge. Book greater than 500 pages is fairly easy too. Not sure about read multiple books in the same series or start and finish a series during the game.

If we earn any bonus points, when do we want to use them? Last team I was on ended up not using the bonus points at all, but I like the idea of using them to give us extra choices (moving up one or two spots to get off a repeat double digit number, like 66 for example.)

message 36: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 3939 comments I don't really remember how the bonus points work - I don't think our team paid them much attention last round.

When it says each bonus point can be earned once per team, does that mean if I start a series and Sam finishes a series, as a team we only get 1 point and we wouldn't be eligible to earn that bonus again?

message 37: by Sam (new)

Sam | 610 comments That one means that the same person needs to both start and finish a series (the same series). And only one person per team can earn that bonus.

message 38: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 1240 comments Sam wrote: "So I can't find that there is a scheduled time on Fridays to roll the dice (it just says US Central Time). So I was thinking of rolling in the early hours of the morning, say 1-2 AM eastern? That w..."

Sounds great

message 39: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 1240 comments As far as the bonus points I say use them when we earn them unless there is a way to keep up with the other teams at all times. I played a game somewhat like this as it was game board style and we earned bonuses to use in different ways, and we were so busy trying to wait that before we knew it the game was over.

How long is too long and how early is too early???

message 40: by Ezi, Factory Superintendent (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 16657 comments Mod
I like to use bonus points to get off spots that are hard like read a book set in South America or a number that’s rough like Sam said.

I’m trying to get rid of series using FWYS so I’m in for that or books over 500 Pages etc

message 41: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 300 comments I usually wake up at 6 CST time, so if you roll at midnight, it'be ok by me, I can check our spot when I wake up.

Midnight CST is 2am for me =P, so goodnight =)

message 42: by Sam (new)

Sam | 610 comments Week 1
Roll 5+3
Spot: 8
Read for series #8
Alternate: Cover Item: Sun/Moon

LaurLa | 3939 comments Sam wrote: "That one means that the same person needs to both start and finish a series (the same series). And only one person per team can earn that bonus."

I figured I was reading that wrong! Seemed to easy... Anyway, I think ultimately my question was that even if more than one person does something that qualifies as a bonus, we only earn it once. And I think you answered that part too ;-)

message 45: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Nice roll ~ I'll see what I want read later. Happy Friday everyone!

message 46: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 300 comments I'll read the alternate (moon on cover), because from the long series I have, I've already read #8 :/

message 47: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 509 comments I'll have to go alternate as well. I'm going with Omens (Cainsville, #1) by Kelley Armstrong . It's hard to see on the thumbnail image, but if you go to the book's page, you can see the sun on the cover.

message 48: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 3939 comments Paula wrote: "I'll read the alternate (moon on cover), because from the long series I have, I've already read #8 :/"

That's a tough one for me too - it seems I've already passed #8 or I'm not quite there on every series.

I did find one that is labeled and numbered as a series but the books aren't inter-related, so skipping to #8 won't be a problem.

message 49: by Sam (new)

Sam | 610 comments ~Melissa~ wrote: "Ah, that makes sense. Do you work in the healthcare field? ..."

Yes, I am a pediatric hospital nocturnist; meaning I am the hospital doctor that stays up all night to take care of the patients.

message 50: by Sam (new)

Sam | 610 comments I am going to read Grim Tempest by Amanda M. Lee, which is Aisling Grimlock #8.
