You know, waiting a couple of days :D Having read a book of this is not a danger for me :D

Sunshine✰✰✰ | 484 comments The one I finished wouldn't of counted. I had started it a while ago. One of the few books I pick up to read just because I want to and therefore it took awhile to finish because other Challenge books became a priority. :-D

It is a shame-on-me though because it was also a series #4 which I need this week for my SSS Challenge. *face smack*

This book was long enough to count for four Bingo books! On the one hand, it definitely makes Claire and Jamie more real, complete characters and they’re both wonderful characters. On the other hand, I felt like I should have finished an epic with all that effort and it didn’t feel epic. Gabaldon does a good job with the issue of what was acceptable behavior in the eighteenth century as opposed to the twentieth. She resurrects the masculinity of the Highland warrior effectively. I personally wouldn’t do well in a relationship with a Highlander but she makes Jamie more than appealing. The worst thing is what happens between Jamie and Captain Randall. It was too much in the TV show and it’s way too much in the book. I don’t trigger easily but it was enough to give me nightmares.

I noticed it’s a spinoff but I didn’t see anything else I wanted to try so I’m going to give it a go. If it’s good I can always reread it after I read the Scorpius books.

Night Watch (Discworld, #29) by Terry Pratchett

Review

This book is a good example (not fully but almost) of the reason I don't read a lot of Terry Pratchett's books nowadays. The irony is too much realistic (and so depressing). Even if this book have some funny moments (much more than Interesting Times), the book that unlinked me from Terry Pratchett's books. I've laughed a lot, cried a bit too, and been angry when you see the revolution in your own world. As I say, for me, Pratchett is not anymore an author I can read at any moment (aside of some specific books as Witches Abroad), but somebody I am at a specific mood (not very depressed).

Jimmy aka "Easy” lost his leg in Iraq 3 years ago and has had a hard time getting back to life, let alone a sex life. Daisy has moved to Rapid City to start over and get away from her past of bad decisions. When the clothes are off (her's anyway) these two fit together in every way. The rest of the time, Easy is an ass.

I loved Daisy. She was a strong woman who took no crap. Well, except from Easy. He would keep walking away and she would keep coming back for more. We get our HEA though when he finally smartens up and realizes he does love her and needs to go chase her.

This was a pretty entertaining read and I was pleased that it wasn’t hard core Motorcycle Club stuff. The hero, Kellach, is only undercover in the club, he’s really an enforcer for the witch’s ruling Coven. While trying to uncover the source of a new drug that is killing humans but is really meant to rob witches of their power, he runs into Alexandra who is a homicide detective. They have a romance which is heavy on him having rough sex with her in order to get her to submit. So maybe it isn’t that different from standard Motorcycle Club fare. It was a little frustrating reading a spin-off of a series I haven’t read. The book stood on its own fairly well but lots of characters appeared who would have been more interesting if I had read their stories. I did like it enough that I may pick up the original series someday.

Review: I was seriously underwhelmed by this novel. It is a debut novel and is full of Tropes and plot developments that were very undeveloped because there was just way too many of them. There was stalking, murder, diamond theft, kidnapping, abandonment, bounty hunters, unknown parentage, supernatural powers and more. The frenetic pace meant that the characters were being continually thrown from one situation to another without much resolution sometimes only a passing sentence, and indeed not a lot of response from the characters themselves because everything was just so overwhelming. Combined with the plot inconsistencies made this a disappointing read.

Raven Cursed (Jane Yellowrock, #4) by Faith Hunter

Review

This is a series I began loooong time ago and read the last one long time ago too. I think the main reason for it to go to the bottom of my TBR are vampires and darkness. It's typical dark urban fantasy, well written but depressing (at least for me, I'm easily affected by the books). This book is dark and sad in some aspects too, but it is again quite well written. You see the humans as cattle (from Jane's POV) and the contact is mainly with vamps.

Nothing has changed in this book. Every situation is more depressing than the previous one. Jane is full of guilt, everybody is giving her the cold shoulder, she hurts her friends but follows her duty... I think this series goes to the freezer for now. I've given three stars because it's very well written, but not for me in my current mood.

Martha (mkoopman27) | 346 comments Sorry you’re not enjoying Jane, Marisa. I liked the series but know what you mean about it being dark. All of Jane’s guilt bothered me particularly—it was just over the top.

One Fell Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles, #3) by Ilona Andrews

Review

Nice and sweet book, even if vamps and werewolves are involved :p I love the Hiru story and its moral, so near to the real life. I like all the characters, and I would like a lot to visit an inn. It's nice to see the poor policeman who has been present in all the stories involved in what's happening and how it's solved. The sad moments are very sad but no unnecessary angst or bricked-head characters.

In another note, it's good too to remember the beginning of the story we are reading in the blog. Anyway, I hope that, after visiting with Maud, they will be back to Gertrude.

Well I’ve done it—I’ve finished all the Phoenix and Mercury Pack books. And while I have enjoyed them I’ve decided I’m done with Suzanne Wright. I realized that I don’t remember one character from another when she writes about people from old books. I just finished this yesterday and I’m not sure I can remember anything that makes Frankie and Trick unique.

This was fun. Vampires, Werewolves and Zombies, Oh My!
Vicky is a demon slayer by profession. She enters the victim's dreams and vanquishes whatever type is plaguing them. She is also a shapeshifter. Three times a month she can shapeshift into anything. I like Julie, the zombie, though she is a teenager so she can be annoying. I loved that Vicky's vampire roommate is Juliet. THE Juliet. It's not all play though. We have fights for "Paranormal Americans" rights and of course the big bad Hellion demon that wants to destroy Boston. I look forward to the next book.

Review: Finished - Overall I loved it, although it did fall away towards the end of the story. To begin with the knowledge of our heroine as a mechanic and then the appearance of the coyote, I was like... OK, seems familiar and I had to check. Urban Shaman was published the year before Moon Called (Mercy Thompson - Patricia Briggs). However it quickly became apparent that these were the only similarities. I really liked the banter with Morrison and hope something develops romantically in future books. It is a retelling of The Wild Hunt (Celtic folklore), with Morrison the sceptic. A great partnership occurred between Jo and Gary - a seventy year old taxi driver which I also hope continues into future books.

So my book Urban Shaman (Walker Papers, #1) by C.E. Murphy turned out to be the same as my motorcycle book, not a shifter in sight, although it was shelved 9 times as shifter. People must read the blurb and think it sounds like a shifter book and classify it as that. Anyway regardless, I am looking forward to continuing the series.

Review:

This is book 2 in the series and even though I did not read the first book, I didn't feel like I was missing anything. Each of the 3 sisters has their own story and this was Melinda's.

One of Melinda's sisters, Lucy, went missing on a trip to England and was pronounced dead, assuming she fell into the ocean and drowned. One year later and Melinda still couldn't believe her sister was gone so she began to look into the disappearance. Having come up with the idea that her sister traveled back to the past she sets out to do the same and find her sister. She finds herself back in 1327 and rescued by the Lord of Falconburg. James was nicknamed the Beast and even though he was from money, no lady wanted to marry him.

This was an easy read and a simple love story. James is really a nice man but no one could look past his scars. Melinda is a resourceful woman even if she's cursed with bad luck with men and even worse luck with directions. Other than the multiple run-in's with bandits, there was no MC conflicts, which made them easy to enjoy.

I don't find myself eager to read the other 2 books, but if I'm ever in need of a time-travel book or a sweet simple romance, I will definitely pick up one of these books.
