Kouk | 49 comments I ordered a few Cozies but they haven't arrived yet, so now i am reading:

Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead

message 1952: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just finished Becoming Marie Antoinette Becoming Marie Antoinette by Juliet Grey . I liked it and it's one of the few books I've read about Marie Antoinette that focused on her life before France to any degree.

message 1954: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I'm reading Something Blue Something Blue (Darcy & Rachel, #2) by Emily Giffin , which is surprising to me since I couldn't stand Darcy Rhone when I read Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1) by Emily Giffin Something Borrowed and I still can't stand her. But I picked it up in the barnes & noble last week and read 20 pages of it and now here I am.

message 1957: by Beth (new)

Beth | 616 comments I'm reading Down the Great Unknown: John Wesley Powell's 1869 Journey of Discovery and Tragedy Through the Grand Canyon as historical research for my next book, Cataract Canyon. Along with going down the Grand Canyon on that fateful trip, JW Powell did a first descent of Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River. I'm finding the adventure/survival tale of that journey to be fascinating, much like The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey that chronicles Theodore Roosevelt's first descent of a rapids-filled tributary of the Amazon River.

If you want to see photos of my book research trip to Moab, Utah and Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River go to: bethgroundwater.blogspot.com

Ariel (sevenmoonlight) | 138 comments I am listening to audio book of The Sixth Man (Sean King & Michelle Maxwell, #5) by David Baldacci The Sixth Man. I listen while at work. It is pretty good with an interesting premise. How much information can the human brain take in and analyze?

message 1959: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Polar Star is definitely not a cozy but Martin Cruz Smith certainly knows how to write mystery/thrillers!

I loved the first one. Haven't had a chance to read the second yet. Glad you liked it!

Kathleen Valentine Those are great suggestions.

I wonder why I am not getting updates from this group. Hmmmm... maybe I checked the wrong thing.

I wasn't getting them for a while either and today they showed up. I have still been on my UF kick:

Straight to Hell by Michelle Scott -- this actually is kind of a cozy. It's just paranormal. I reviewed it here on GR and my blog. Good start of a new series.

Dying Bites by D.D. Barant -- UF parallel world. Decent.

Child of Fire by Harry Connolly - UF -this was pretty dark and more like a supernatural thriller than urban fantasy, but very fast paced. Good book.

Finished The Last Battle by CS Lewis this afternoon. Am thinking of starting Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire next. Need to read this one so I can return it to my sister.

message 1970: by Beth (new)

message 1972: by Donna (new)

Donna | 27 comments I finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling yesterday. Still found it enjoyable. The part about Nearly Headless Nick's death day party and efforts to join the Headless Hunt were especially appropriate with Halloween approaching.

message 1973: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Just finished A Drop of the Hard Stuff (Matthew Scudder #17) by Lawrence Block . Not a cozy, definitely, but not very bloody either. It was good to visit Matthew Scudder and my old neighborhood in Manhattan.

message 1974: by Becky (new)

Becky (doodlesbak) | 7 comments When I'm not reading cozies, I read suspense, James Patterson, Kathy Reichs, Sue Grafton, Linda Fairstein. I also enjoy the mysteries involving authors such as James D Doss and Tony Hillerman. I love Yasmine Galenorns paranormal romance series with the d'artigo sisters. I also read Patricia Briggs abd Kim Harrison, Rachel Caine.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished up Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie . I'm a Crusie fan, but I really procrastinated on this one because the cover and title just smacked of romance and I prefer my romance to be secondary. I finally sat down to read this and was pleasantly surprised - a very fun ghost story! The plot reminded me of Phyllis Whitney's Window on the Square, but with ghosts! Loved it and was a great Halloween season read.

After one in the morning and I have jsut finished Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight until I had finished, and it was well-worth the loss of sleep. Excellent book. Hmmm...I wonder if my sister has Son of a Witch, so I might pilfer borrow that from her next?

message 1987: by [deleted user] (new)

when I am not reading cozies, I enjoy romance novels, contemporary authors such as Debbie Macomber, Mariah Steweart, Sherryl Woods, Linda Lael Miller. I finished Sage Creek by jill gregory and the Villa by Nora Roberts; loved Hometown Girl by Mariah Stewart

message 1988: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Cotterill (rachelcotterill) I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi when I'm not reading mysteries. I just finished Death & Magic which actually is a cozy mystery, just set in a world with magic. The heroine is a healer and trainee wizard, who gets roped into doing the magical equivalent of CSI-type work, and ends up solving the mystery herself. It was a really good read.

The Vampire stalker is really Young Adult but i like it!
The idea of the book is original.
But it basically depends on if you like YA books.

The book does read fast and i think it's a stand alone.
