If you like Garden Spells try her Sugar Queen book. I loved that one the best. Jeeves, a wonderful choice! Enjoy!!

I really like this series. Have read the first 2 and have the next 3 in The Pile.

Emma | 109 comments Although in some ways it could be considerd a little cozy (at least to me), I'm about to begin another brand of mystery: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I have been rationing my Sherlock, but I need a fix!

I loved The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen by Sarah Addison Allen and hope to listen to Garden Spells on audio soon.

Heidi | 2446 comments Emma my hubby and I have been watching all the old Sherlock Holmes episodes from BBC on Netflix (Roku) and it has made me want to go and read the books. I am also trying to watch the new BBC Sherlock series online on PBS, but have not gotten to them yet.

message 1058: by Beth (new)

Beth | 616 comments I'm reading Zeitoun Zeitoun by Dave Eggers for my book club. I'm sure this will make for a lively discussion, as it's about the horrible effects of the inept, illegal, and irresponsible response of Homeland Security to Katrina on one family. Pretty scary stuff!

message 1059: by Leslie (last edited Nov 07, 2010 08:03PM) (new)

Leslie I just finished Here's the Deal Don't Touch Me by Howie Mandel . I didn't have strong feelings one way or the other about Howie prior to reading this book...but it was an uncomfortable read to me. I'm sorry that he has the issues that he does but he really came off as unlikeable to me.

message 1060: by Miki (new)

Miki | 148 comments I am reading Money Trouble by William J. Reynolds for my Nebraska read. I have tried to read all cozies, but this one is a PI book, and so far it is pretty funny.

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Had to give up on Lost in a Good Book- couldn't stand it. Now I'm reading Interred with Their Bones. Much much better!!!

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished Ghost Town (The Morganville Vampires, #9) by Rachel Caine and Eternal More Love Stories with Bite by P.C. Cast . Both were excellent reads! Has been awhile since I could say I read an anthology where all the stories were good, but they were in ETERNAL. Now reading Origins (The Vampire Diaries Stefan's Diaries, #1) by L.J. Smith .

Read them! You will not regret it! They are so...enticing. The way Watson narrates is wonderfully descriptive without being boring. I have been testing the waters with different film adaptations as there seem to be so many that I can't tell which would be good and which may be stinkers. Any versions you like best?

message 1064: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments OK Emma I will give them a try thanks :) Jeremy Brett is the only Sherlock for me, so any BBC adaptation with him can not go wrong IMO.

Just ordered my Roku today...can't wait to get it. Do you love it Heidi?

message 1066: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments I love it Leslie! It is worth the money. Also Hulu Plus is going to be available on there soon and since I dropped to basic cable I plan to join and watch all my shows that way. We also use Amazon on Demand on the Roku, which works great :)

Finally finished Why? Because We Still Like You: An Oral History of the Mickey Mouse Club, which was won from GoodReads. I don't usually care for biography, but having watched the MMC in reruns growing up, it was interesting to read how it was concepted, actualized, and impacted children's programming (though there could have been more on that).

Now reading Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Heidi I wrote: "Yay Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - stick with it because it is a slow starter."

That's what I've been told. Seems like all of my friends on the M/T board read it a couple of years ago and they've raved about the trilogy ever since. Figured I'd finally give it a shot. It's my "purse" book, so will probably take awhile to get through. I'm also reading Moonlight Mile (Kenzie & Gennaro, #6) by Dennis Lehane .

message 1076: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments I like to watch Charles Dickens BBC videos, first I watched Bleak House, then I tried reading it, am on my second go round of reading and finding it enjoyrabe. Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice the one with Colin Firth, Persuasion. Read Northanger Abbey, reading Anil's Ghost by Michael O, don't know how to spell his last name. Ondatjee? Read Camille Claudel, the sculptor, and also love watching the Cranford series,by Elizabeth Gaskell. Also read Scott Turow, Sue Grafton, when is her next coming out, does anyone know?

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is such a fabulous read! I cannot rave about it enough!

message 1078: by Miki (new)

Miki | 148 comments I am reading The Aloha Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini and A Fairwell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. I haven't read any Hemingway for a very long time. His descriptions of place are quite wonderful. The Chiaverini is because I am a quilter and I really enjoy her stories.

message 1079: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) Miki, Is The Aloha Quilt based around a quilter? I quilt, so this book looks really interesting. Please let me know how you like the series.

I liked Bleak House as well (and Cranford). Have you watched North & South (BBC version)? I highly recommend it. I also recommend the current BBC version of Sherlock and the BBC tv series Lark Rise to Candleford (which my library bought for me - yay!)

I agree about Colin Firth! I was reading something about him in EW the other day and they called him "the thinking woman's heartthrob". Sounds good to me!

message 1082: by Dee (new)

Dee (goodreadscomdeetopa) When I'm not reading Cozy's I'm reading YA or watching movies. Although I prefer to read over movies. I have been trying to watch Sex and the City 2 for over TWO weeks! I get started and then have to stop, and repeat! Geez! I also work...grumble...and I'm finishing up my MLS...double grumble. But mostly I would rather be reading then doing all those other things :0)

I agree. A very intricate, intense read. I'm just finishing the third one, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, and will be very sorry to come to the end of the series - though I hear hints that a fourth manuscript might exist.
may exist.

Miki | 148 comments Paula wrote: "Miki, Is The Aloha Quilt based around a quilter? I quilt, so this book looks really interesting. Please let me know how you like the series."

The entire series is based on quilting and quilters. I am also a quilter, so I have really enjoyed the series. I suggest you start with the first in the series, The Quilter's Apprentice, and read them mostly in order so you get to know all the quilters. I hope you enjoy them.

Yes, Heidi, Colin Firth is faboo. I just finished watching North and South and I have Larkrise to Candleford on request at the library. There is also a Return to Cranford which is just as charming as the first. there is also a Christmas in Cranford which I haven't got yet. Also Little Dorrit is good with Matthew MacFayden, I have another video of MacFayden, he also did a Pride and Prejudice in Colin Firth's role, I heard he was mean, Matthew not Colin in said role.

I've just finished The Reckless Bride (Black Cobra Quartet, #4) by Stephanie Laurens . I don't like historical romance usually, but Stephanie Laurens is the exception, I like her books a lot.

message 1089: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Robin there is only one Mr. Darcy and that is Colin! I liked Little Dorrit. Return to Cranford wasn't as good as the original, but still watchable. I had not heard of the Christmas one, so I will look for it. How did you like North & South? I have a small crush on Richard Armitage now. p.s. I hope you like Lark Rise - yay!

message 1090: by Mary (new)

Mary (resort) | 139 comments Have you ever seen the 1930's film of Pride and Prejudice with Lawrence Olivier and Greer Garson? Olivier was wonderful as Darcy. Garson, I thought was miscast, though she did her best. They sillied up some of the story and minor characters too much, IMO, but Olivier still made it good.

message 1091: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments Heidi, at first Richard Armitage turned me off, by his beating his employee for trying to light up. I know that would have incinerated the cotton mill. I liked the portrayal, it reminded me of the Brontes, the mother her name was Maria, and the father was a clergyman as well, Elizabeth Gaskell wrote a biography of Charlotte Bronte, so the adaptation was good. I haven't read the book, heard it is diff. from the movie, but most are. I saw trailers of Larkrise, I like Julia Swahala, she is a good actress.

Mary, I have seen bits and pieces of the Olivier 1930, maybe I should revisit that one as well. Olivier is also good in Wuthering Heights, I still love his portrayal of Heathcliff, along with Merle Oberon as Cathy. I have seen newer versions of WH. with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche, but that portrayal was too violent in my opinion.

message 1092: by Donna (last edited Nov 20, 2010 10:41PM) (new)

Donna | 27 comments This time of year I tend to go overboard on reading Christmas romances. I'm trying to use some restraint this year so I've only read a couple. I read A Christmas Promise by Mary Balogh and A Wallflower Christmas (Wallflowers, #5) by Lisa Kleypas . Currently I'm reading A Fairytale Christmas Baby Beneath the Christmas Tree\Magic Under the Mistletoe (Harlequin Larger Print Romance) by Susan Meier .

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I finished Murder on the Iditarod Trail (Alex Jensen / Jessie Arnold, #1) by Sue Henry on Friday. It was pretty good. Reminds me of some the early Anna Pigeon series. Looking forward to reading more.

Emma | 109 comments I think my next book is going to be Juliet Juliet by Anne Fortier . Anyone read it or know anything about it? A friend recommended it to me, but said she couldn't explain too much, I would just have to read it. It sounds like it would appeal to me, so I have high hopes for it. It is also the last book for me for a 50 books a Year challenge, so I hope it rounds the year out nicely.

Let me know what you think. I am just beginning today (once I drag my butt away from Goodreads) and have pretty high hopes for it. I can't say why, but I hope I'm not disappointed. Enjoy!

Paula (pauldajo) I am reading The Last Child which I wouldn't classify as a cozy, but the story is a mystery.
