Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments In my quest to finish some series I've started, I'm reading Roseanna Roseanna (Martin Beck #1) by Maj Sjöwall . Yes it's the first in the series, I'd picked up a later one at my library to see if I liked it and now I have to start at the beginning.

Pamela | 34 comments Just started The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney . Definitely not a cozy mystery, but very good so far!

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 278 comments A romance of course ! Susan Mallery's Christmas on 4th Street.
Lovely so far, on page 100.

Lynn (lynnali) | 524 comments I'm reading Guns, Germs and Steel: A Short History of Everybody for the Last 13,000 Years.

I'm only in as far as the prologue, but the presentation of the theory in CGP Grey's "Americapox" YouTube Video really made me want to read the book, so I'll see how it goes. It's thought-provoking already.

I really like this series so far. I also recommend it on audiobook to anyone who likes that format.

I love audiobooks, I'll have to see if I can find book 3 on audiobook. Thanks!

Speaking of audiobooks, started First Drop of Crimson First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost on audiobook this morning while folding the laundry.

I read that a while back and enjoyed it, I have the 3 Vlad series novels to read and a few short stories to clean up the whole Night Huntress and related works series.

I love Vlad and I can't wait to get into his books.

Gary Sundell | 2274 comments Sometimes I think I'm the only guy who reads the Night Huntress series. Maybe I'll read the first of the Vlad, don't call me Dracula, series next.

I won't lie, I was kind of surprised when you said you read it. ;)

Gary Sundell | 2274 comments I will concede that I skim through the bedroom antics of Cat and Bones and the other couples in the various books.

Gary Sundell | 2274 comments Just read Silver Linings (Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences, #1.5) by Pip Ballantine A short story that fits between the first and second books of The Ministry of Pecular Occurances series. The story could have used a good proof reading, but I otherwise liked it.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Heather L wrote: "Re: Night Huntress/Night Prince series. I am impatiently awaiting the next Vlad, which doesn't come out until late October. So cruel!"

I was not enamored of the Vlad books. I liked him as a side character in the Night Huntress books, but wasn't crazy about the books based on him and what's-her-name! The first one wasn't bad, but I really didn't like the 2nd one. Vlad doesn't carry a whole book well. Didn't like the one about Mencheres either, but then I never liked him!

Well, darn. I thought Vlad would be my reward for making it through some of the other books!

message 5723: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments So, Denise ruined First Drop of Crimson First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost completely for me and I had to quit partway. Normally I would just skim, but it's hard to skim an audiobook. Oh well, onward.

I read this one for last year's "Ultimate" challenge, and liked it. I recently stumbled across book two at the library's used book sale and had to pick it up.

Read Hard Knocks by Lori Foster last Friday, and am now reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson for a group read.

MaryJo Dawson | 857 comments Am now finished with The Glorious Cause by Jeff Shaara by Jeff Shaara. It is a book enjoyed by American history lovers - such as myself - or by men and boys who love good military stories! Otherwise, maybe not so much.

message 5736: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Well, it wasn't a mystery... but I did find it very cozy.

Just finished reading Emma A Modern Retelling (The Austen Project, #3) by Alexander McCall Smith Emma: A Modern Retelling by Alexander McCall Smith

That would be a tough read. Agree with Heather, the movie was bad enough!

So far I am really enjoying reading it... It's very peculiar ;D.

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I didn't even bother starting A Clockwork Orange A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess . Having just finished another book that I didn't enjoy. I'll probably just take it back to the library.

Listening to Fifth Grave Past the Light (Charley Davidson, #5) by Darynda Jones Fifth Grave Past the Light and enjoying it although the narrator's voice seems all wrong for Charley.

Finished Major Pettigrew's Last Stand Tuesday and loved it. I read it for the 2016 Ultimate challenge as my "blue cover," but it would also qualify for a NY Times Bestseller, a book set in Europe, or a book on an island.

Gary Sundell | 2274 comments Woohoo, finally as of today the Camber trilogy and the second Kelson trilogy by Katherine Kurtz have been released for Nook and I assume Kindle. Now if we could only get the Edding's estate to get the Belgariad, Mallorean and Sparhawk novels into E book format in the US.
