The question is Brenda, to where?
Brenda wrote: "Jazzy wrote: "2/12 so far! The Invention of Hugo Cabret & The Glass Castle"
Did you enjoy them Jazzy? Can you add a star rating so we know if we should follow them up? ..."
Yes they are very good. the star ratings are on the original page with all my books, Hugo is 5 and the Glass castle is 4 :)
I thought it would be easier to refer to that page.
My Review for The invention of Hugo Cabret:
This amazing book is a beautiful love letter to the beginnings of cinema, especially the pioneering work of the great and prolific filmmaker Georges Méliès (8 December 1861 – 21 January 1938) who had his start as a famous magician who first imagined the potential of film effects in the late 1800s.
Nothing I could say would be as poignant as this film.
Le voyage dans la lune/A Trip to the Moon (George Méliès, 1902)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJiiy...
Enjoy.
Méliès produced up to 75 films a year before production was halted by the Great War. Unfortunately a lot of his film were melted down, and once thought lost. He spent his last years in poverty, not selling mechanical toys as in Hugo but owning a sweet shop.

2/3 already! I think I may actually end up completely the moderate level for once after all :)The Flash: Read a novella: The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling 4★
Loved reading Dumbledore's notes about each tale -just the right combination of wisdom and wit. Left me wanting more.
3/12 SPIDERMAN - Takes place in a school...
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie - Muriel Spark
5 stars!
My review:
A bittersweet story of a Scottish schoolmistress at a conservative girl's school in 1930s Edinburgh. Miss Brodie is a spinster who believes her life is in its prime, and she imparts her ideas of art, beauty, and even fascism with zeal on her young, impressionable, and romanticised girls. A deft little masterpiece, this classic was adapted as a play in 1966 featuring Vanessa Redgrave, then a film starring Maggie Smith in 1969.

*Read a novella (short book – less than 125 pages allowed in this ONE instance); or
The Shepherd's Hut - Tim Winton 3 stars
Sorry Tim old sport, it was a bit too gritty for my liking.
My review:
Jaxie has been abused by his father all his life, and after another in a long line of savage beatings, he wishes his father was dead. When Jaxie's wish unexpectedly comes true, instead of it being the Disney fairy tale ending he might have longed for, he finds himself thrown head-long into circumstances reminiscent of a Ken Loach film.
My second Hero..The Flash....a novella...one by one of my favourite Irish writers, Jennifer Johnston, always so succinct and moving in her style 'Fool's Sanctuary'
...4*
2/6Thor:

Breath - Tim Winton Australian Author, 4 stars
My Review:
A coming-of-age story from Perth, fuelled with excitement, fear, adrenaline and the beauty of surfing. Oh, Tim Winton, your book both thrills and horrifies me. I might have quit reading but found I could not and stayed til the end. There were parts I adored and parts I abhorred, and it was like catching my breath. Then I remembered to breathe.
4 Stars for the beatific rhythm of the waves.
Second book complete: 2/3 And my Aussie author.Wonder Woman
*Read a book written by a woman
The Dry, by Jane Harper
5 Stars!! What a 'WOW" story! I now know what a 'atmospheric' story is. This book carried my right in the middle of this Australian drought and the desperation of this small town. I know that part of my connection to the story is that I lived in Australia for a short time and could picture in my mind the things that the author was describing. And in doing that, I was able to feel the characters and their plight, both from the drought and the family tragedy.
I have already gotten the second book written by this author.
Great Challenge! One book to go: Circe
