Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I personally love Edelweiss but think it is harder to get books on there than it is to get them off of Netgalley.

message 52: by Mehsi (last edited Jul 29, 2014 10:41AM) (new)

Mehsi I only use Netgalley. Tried Edelweiss, but it was a bit to complicated, and from what I could see it was mostly US only. So yeah, didn't continue with that one. Netgalley at least has some fun books for us Europeans.

message 53: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Edelweiss is also less user friendly.

message 54: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Yeah, it was overly complicated. With Netgalley I can just say request and the request is pending. And then I will just get a mail if I am accepted/declined.

message 55: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Yeah, Netgalley is much easier to use if you are just starting, in my opinion.

message 56: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Yep, I really love it, and I hope that Netgalley will stay for a long time to come.

I have this one too. :)"

Would you like to buddy read it?

message 58: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Sure, Trinity! :) When were you thinking?

message 59: by Trinity (new)

Trinity I'm fine whenever. (:

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments How about 8/9?

message 61: by Trinity (new)

Trinity Sounds good! Can you make the thread?

message 62: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I will later tonight! :)

message 65: by Trinity (new)

Trinity @Gisbelle ~
I just got Tear You Apart by Sarah Cross accepted as well.

message 66: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Trinity ~ congrats :) It looks like a nice book.

message 67: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Anyway, I think Edelweiss is easier for me. So far most of my ARC's are from there.

Just got declined Blood Of My Blood (Jasper Dent #3) by Barry Lyga which is a bummer. I'll see if I can request from Edelweiss instead :)

message 68: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Aw! Sorry to hear that. I hope that if you can get it from EW you will be accepted. :)

message 69: by Tammie (new)

Tammie Tackett i would like to try to get a book by Eleanor & Park

message 70: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments thanks dear :)

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments I don't really get books for reviews.
I have a blog, but it's kind of pathetic, so my requests are never accepted (though I've stopped asking).

But I went to a book convention in May and I got a few ARCS:
Get Even (Don't Get Mad, #1) by Gretchen McNeil Deliverance (Defiance, #3) by C.J. Redwine The Jewel (The Lone City, #1) by Amy Ewing Made for You by Melissa Marr The Aftermath by Jen Alexander Ghost House by Alexandra Adornetto Of Metal and Wishes by Sarah Fine Top Ten Clues You're Clueless by Liz Czukas Born of Deception (Born of Illusion, #2) by Teri Brown Dissonance (Dissonance, #1) by Erica O'Rourke
I've read a few of these already, but these are the ones I got!(pssst! If you live anywhere near Dallas, you need to go to this convention! It'll be in Dallas next year!)

And I got Fiendish by Brenna Yovanoff from First to Read which is a really cool site from Penguin. They offer up a bunch of books every month that are not yet released (They don't have any YA books this month! BOO!)
But it's a really cool site!

Hope you get it

message 73: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments thanks Jay :) It's not available for request from Edelweiss yet. I think I'll just have to wait till September :)

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments Is Edelweiss any good? I'm debating whether to make an account.

message 75: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (manka23) Oh I just finished Tear You Apart by Sarah Cross I really enjoyed it. It was my first re-telling I've ever read. I also got Branded. Hope it's good.

@Gisbelle how did you get on the auto-approved list for EgemontUSA? What's your approval rating? Mine is so low, but I review for them all the time.

@Jessica (Goldenfurpro) I also do Penguins First Reads, I just got The Barter by Siobhan Adcock from there today actually. And I read The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff which is by the same woman who wrote Fiendish and I really liked it, so I'm jealous that you have Fiendish.

message 76: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Amanda ~ I requested a book from Egmont and after I finished and sent my review, the next day they added me to the auto-approved list. I think it was totally random.

My rating at the moment is 80% because I have 8 ARC's I haven't reviewed yet. Usually it's around 90. I only just started using NetGalley earlier this year.

ReadWriteLove28 | 17 comments How long does it normally take to get approved/declined on Edelweiss?

message 78: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments ReadWriteLove28 wrote: "How long does it normally take to get approved/declined on Edelweiss?"

It totally varies. Could be a day or two or a few weeks.

ReadWriteLove28 wrote: "How long does it normally take to get approved/declined on Edelweiss?"

For me it's always random. Sometimes a couple of days, sometimes a couple of weeks. I have some books from a couple of months ago that have never been denied or accepted. I have sent requests a second time after a week or so of not hearing and then sometimes within a few days they'll come back and give me an answer.

message 80: by Trinity (new)

Trinity Jacquelyn, I went ahead and made the thread for Get Happy. Here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Thanks!

message 85: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1726 comments I got Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour from First To Read (Not sure if it counts as an ARC though) but I got about two chapters in and then my tablet died and wouldn't charge, so...

I'm probably going to make an account on NetGalley and Edelweiss soon.

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments I just made an account on Edelweiss! I don't think I'll request anything yet. I'm kind of too nervous to...

ReadWriteLove28 | 17 comments I just got my first rejection from Edelweiss and netgalley :(

message 89: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments ReadWriteLove28 wrote: "I just got my first rejection from Edelweiss and netgalley :("

You'll get used to the feeling. I have been rejected so many times from the publishers at NetGalley.

message 90: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments finished A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird, #1) by Claudia Gray (4*) it was pretty good.

I'll start Can't Look Away by Donna Cooner which I just got the other day from NetGalley.

message 91: by ReadWriteLove28 (new)

ReadWriteLove28 | 17 comments Yeah, I'm sure that I'll be rejected more than approved. But hopefully I'll be approved for one of the books!

message 92: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments When I first started, I downloaded, read and reviewed a few books from read-now just to get a better approval ratio. Maybe it helps you too.

message 93: by ReadWriteLove28 (new)

ReadWriteLove28 | 17 comments Thanks for the advice! I'll try and do that soon!

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments I just requested a few books on Netgalley (still too scared to request any on Edelweiss). Though I highly doubt I'll get approved for any of them, I figured that it doesn't hurt to try! Worst comes to worst, I'll get declined, but I'll be okay.

That's exactly how I feel! So far I have been denied on 2, but if I keep trying, hopefully I'll get approved for one!

Lucky duck!
A Thousand Pieces of You sounds absolutely amazing!
I'm so glad you liked it! XD

message 97: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments thanks :) It was a little bland near the end, but overall it was pretty amazing (at least to me) :D

message 98: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments It depends on publishers. Like Penguin and Disney for example are a little strict when it comes to selecting reviews for their ARC's. So far I never get any from them.

Mostly I get ARC's from Harper, Simon & Schuster, Egmont... It'll get easier once you have reviewed a few of their books.

Anna (Unquenchable Reads) (unquenchablereads) | 249 comments How do you get arcs from publishers?

Anna (Unquenchable Reads) (unquenchablereads) | 249 comments The only arc I have is The Iron Trial (Magisterium, #1) by Cassandra Clare
