Kate | 646 comments Good Morning! Its approaching 8am in the UK and its raining Yay! I have a coffee and a book and am starting with the hour 8 sprint.

message 603: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I've finished my first book! The One and Only Ivan and I'll rate it 4 stars.

message 604: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I've finished my second book! Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats another 4 stars.

Lamilla | 823 comments Congrats on finishing two books in a row, Kate!
Glad to see Pratchett on your list

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1443 comments Ugh I wish it would rain today - very low chance so doubtful. We do have 85% humidity today though so there's moisture in the air apparently.

And nice! Two 4 star books :)

Kate | 646 comments Update: I started Queenie and haven't been able to put it down! Its turned out to be a great choice for the readathon.

Its gone 10pm here now so I think I'll be heading to bed to read there for a bit but I'm already getting tired so I know I won't stay up until the 1am finish.

Haven't commented on many threads this time round but appreciate everyone who stops by. Thanks for the encouragement :)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1443 comments I haven't read Queenie yet, glad to hear it's good. Just turned 8 pm here.

Kate | 646 comments I've just checked my page 1 opening post readathon list and found that July 2025 was my 20th time participating in Deweys! I've only missed 2 since April 2018.

Impressive! I have no idea when I joined. I got a topic here quite late I believe...

Vicki Willis | 510 comments Great job Kate!
How did you like The One and Only Ivan? My son reads that book to his class each year.
See you in October!

Kate | 646 comments I enjoyed it Vicki. It really shows how far we've come with Zoo animals. I think its the first in a series so I'll try and get some of the other books at some point.

Kate | 646 comments I'm back for the Autumn! Thought I'd give the Pre-readathon challenge a go. I'll just be focussing on part 1 though.

Seasonally Mysterious
🍊 1. Read three fictional mysteries. (For an additional challenge, read different genres/subgenres.)

1. The Sentence is Death 3 stars (contemporary mystery)
2. The Holy Thief currently reading
3.

Glad you are participating Kate! I will be focusing on the nonfiction, each to their own :)

message 618: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Its a great challenge Cynda, thanks for setting it up. This one is right up my street!

I've finished The Sentence is Death by Anthony Horowitz. Its the second in a series. I gave the first book 3 stars and I've done the same with this one. Unfortunately I don't really like the main detective and Anthony Horowitz features himself but he doesn't portray himself in the best light so I don't like him much either! I won't be continuing the series.
For the different sub genres this one is a contemporary mystery.

Maybe your next selection will be more to your liking. Recently I read a contemporary mystery Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto. I want to go to her her traditional Chinese tea shop where she will be both bossy and kind, a good friend.

I have The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz on my shelf. Sherlock Homes! I hope it will be better….

message 621: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Cathy I suspect that one will be better. I do like Anthony Horowitz and I gave 5 stars to Magpie Murders so I think its just this series that I'm not getting on with.

My next book is The Holy Thief so I know I'm on safe ground with Cadfael! Its looking like 4 stars so far.
