I'll also use this space to keep track of how many guesses each member has earned and has used so we can properly strategize. Go Green Team!

Tammy | 704 comments How exciting. I've stocked up on library books. I haven't done one of these before. Looking forward to a great week of reading.

I lied. We're the green team but team (funky-looking) green fish, not team turtle ;)

message 7: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Hi Team! :)

message 8: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 704 comments I guess we've become the Green Guppies (or Groupers if you prefer)! When does strategizing begin? I know which categories I can help in and the ones that I can't. I'm going to try for 7 books this week. I don't know if that is possible, but it can't hurt to give it a whirl. Many of the books I have checked out could cover multiple categories so I guess we can just put them in spots that other folks haven't filled. I will definitely commit to 600 pages and 5 hours of audiobooks.

message 9: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1050 comments Ohh, love green glad I am made it on this team! Looking forward to reading with you all.

The Battleship team seems like it is going to be fun. I hope to read at least 5 books this week maybe more.

Laura looks like you and the other mods have put a lot of work into this read-a-thon, thank you!

message 10: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3784 comments Mod
We can start strategizing at any point, we just have to wait until when we wake up on Saturday to count the reading.

I'm currently reading The Whispering Room by Dean Koontz. I'm hoping to finish it this weekend and I can count it towards the task for books started before the read-a-thon.

message 11: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1050 comments Of the books I currently plan to read they can fit these prompts:
Book set in a fictional location
Mystery/Thriller
Non-Fiction Book
book written by a women
Book in a Series
Listen to Audiobook
Book Set in the Country You Reside In
Read a Book Published in 2018
Book Published Outside the Major 5 Publishers
Book cover colors yellow/orange and blue/green
Book with an Average GR Rating of Between 4 and 4.3

I found a Swiss book and a Graphic Novel I could read. I can also find a poem if we need that filed. I am actually pretty open to trying to find something for a any prompt if need be.

I'm just reading through everything and wow.. this is a complicated one! I'm up for it though!

Question. Does it really matter which category we assign a book to, since we can read multiple books for each category? I mean, aside from the lightening bolt prompts and the ones that designate a limit, we can read multiple books for the same one?

So the only thing we really need to strategize is the lightening bolt prompts (with maybe a comment tracking who has completed what prompts for those) and the prompts where theres a limit per member?

Yes, Emily, You're correct :)

message 17: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 7785 comments Mod
Ok so I finished Stay with Me this morning, but I had 56% read yesterday, so I'm not sure if it counts? I looked through all of the posts and didn't see the rules for what percentage read was required.

If it does count, it's a POC author and a female author.

Emily, that would count for one of the books for - Finish 3 Books Started Before the Read-a-Thon (1 per Member; <75% Complete)

But good job! We have our first task started :)

Laura wrote: "Emily, that would count for one of the books for - Finish 3 Books Started Before the Read-a-Thon (1 per Member; <75% Complete)

You have to read at least 75% of a book to count it towards the othe..."

Oh haha I didn't even see that prompt... PERFECT!

Laura | 3784 comments Mod
The team tracker (cumulative tasks) has been updated in the second post. It may help alleviate some confusion.

Please be sure to update the group with the number of pages you have read or the number of audiobook hours you have listened to so I can add it to the cumulative total.

message 21: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Does a book need a minimum page count? I started a little book with only 50 pages.

message 22: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3784 comments Mod
I would guess that would count for one of the 3 short stories/novellas.

message 23: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 7785 comments Mod
I read a poem by Rupi Kaur!

(Is there a limit to poems? I feel like that would be a really easy way to rack up a ton of guesses quickly!)

message 24: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3784 comments Mod
I haven't heard of a limit for poems, at least from the last time we did Battleship. I suppose if we get out of hand then the mods will discuss :)

Emily, you get one guess!

I've completed the current games: Kick-off, Getting to Know You, and Bookish A-Z

message 27: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 704 comments Completed A Personal Matter by Kenzaburō Ōe. I completed the "read for two straight hours" task.

165 Pages

I also have completed the listened to audiobook for 5 hours. Around 120 pages of Olive Kitteridge.

message 28: by Samantha (last edited Mar 24, 2018 02:52PM) (new)

Samantha | 1050 comments I completed the Kick-Off Questionnaire, Getting to Know You and Bookish A-Z.

I finished iZombie, Vol. 1: Dead to the World a Graphic Novel.

134 pages read

Laura | 3784 comments Mod
Tammy, if I'm reading your post right, you listened to 5 hours of audio which was the equivalent of 120 pages? If so, I counted it for the audio task. If you continue listening then we can count it for pages since you're now at your personal max for audio.

I counted A Personal Matter under "article in the title" so you've earned one guess.

message 30: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I have completed all games thus far. Will listen to some audiobook yet tonight.

message 31: by Perri (last edited Mar 24, 2018 06:18PM) (new)

Perri | 791 comments Read two hours today
So for the unfinished book prompt, I need to read 75% during the challenge?

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read 4 poems:

Dreams
The Lake
Sonnet - to Science
Alone

all by Edgar Allan Poe

message 33: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (last edited Mar 25, 2018 09:00AM) (new)

Laura | 3784 comments Mod
If you read at least 25% then it counts for the book started for the read-a-thon, number of pages, and potentially 2 hours straight.

Lori, You have earned 4 guesses.

message 34: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad Hi team will read my book I started before read a thon to start out

message 35: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I have participated in all the games so far.

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I recommended a book!

Tammy and Perri, you also both earned guesses for reading for 2 hours. So, Tammy, you now have 2 guesses available.

Tammy | 704 comments I'll go with J10 and J 09

E5
K6

message 43: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 25, 2018 06:14AM) (new)

Yesterday I finished Shutter Island. Last 29% read - 121 pages.

Read Conference At Cold Comfort Farm - average rating is 3.13 (Finish a Book with an Average GR Rating Below 3.5). Could work for any of these ⚡ tasks: read a book, page number (176) and female author.

I also recommended a book in the new thread.

message 44: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3784 comments Mod
I earned a guess for reading for 2-straight hours so there is one guess available for the team. Let me know where we want to put it!

E2 is a hit! You have sunk the 4-block ship.

Yay!! That was a quick success!

message 49: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I finished Cannery Row not sure where you want to place this. I was at 28% prior to the start of the read a thon and I also read for 2 hours straight on this one. This book was first published in 1945 so anywhere you want to place it that will work best for the team I'm okay with.
