Autumn Francia | 66 comments i want to find THIS book, is that there was a lighthouse? or maybe a house on a set of rocks, and there was a path that led to this, but when the tide is high you cant get out to it. there was some kind of significance about a rock or maybe a seashell and this path, besides that it disappeared, and also, there was something about the parent, that for most of the book they were not important, or there etc. confusing memory sorry. definitely YA fiction, read over 15 years ago i think.

``Laurie (laurielynette) Hello Autumn, I found several lists at Listopia for books about lighthouses.

Let us know if you find your book and good luck :D

Autumn Francia | 66 comments Im not sure how to find it from that without clicking on hundreds of books. :( things i can tell you from clicking on a few: it had a child in it as the main protagonist. I do not at all remember adults much playing a role in the book, nor a 'couple that makes a life changing decision' as with the 'light between oceans book' and do not remember the mentioning of australia in this one. i wanna say something like maine or ... idk. many of these books i have clicked on seem to be murder mysteries. I do not think this one has a murder in it, as it is YA...

Sarah (sarahatothek) | 39 comments This came out in 2011, so it doesn't match your timeline, but the rest of the description seems pretty close. Storm Tide

Booklist:
Grades 5-8 With his parents gone for the day from his island home, the time is ripe for Simon to partake in a bit of adventure. The family runs the island’s lighthouse, so after a bare-minimum stab at chores and a quick argument with his sister, Ellen, he sets off—and discovers a man apparently drowning in the storm-roughed waters. The man is rescued and brought inside, where in his delirium he starts muttering about a treasure. Furthermore, he has a map and an oblique riddle that Simon and Ellen use to discover the treasure’s location, on a rock visible only during the lowest of tides. When the stranger reveals himself to be dangerously unhinged, the race to uncover the loot is on. Jones festoons this quick read with several well-shaped action sequences and a steady application of danger in the guise of both the elements and the treasure-seeking villain.

Autumn Francia | 66 comments um actually, this does not seem like it to me. so far as i know; there was no sister and no treasure... something about a drowning though is jogging my memory

message 7: by Autumn (new)

Autumn Francia | 66 comments no, but i will definitely be reading it since it looks like a good book

KELLY RHIANNON CUFF | 3 comments Did it involve a young girl and her brother sent to the island for the summer, their grandfather herds sheep, and the island was haunted by the ghost of a young girl who drowned crossing to the mainland to meet her boyfriend?

message 9: by Autumn (new)

Autumn Francia | 66 comments ... hmmm im not sure but that sounds a bit familiar, maybe ive read that or it is the one im thinking. do you have a title? If i read a few lines i would know

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Was this a fantasy, coming of age, adventure, etc?
Part of a series?
Anything about the cover?
Time period story takes place?

message 13: by Juels (new)

Juels | 3313 comments Very wild guess... The Lighthouse Land by Adrian McKinty?

message 14: by Autumn (new)

Autumn Francia | 66 comments Um sorry but no. Cover is dark blue and black I think and it would have been a read for maybe 5th thru 8th grd. Time period not sure, seems modern maybe but I think they had to light the lighthouse, instead of using bulbs .... This is me bumping

CJ Was it The Vanishing Act
by Mette Jakobsen

Autumn Francia | 66 comments sorry , still looking, this is a bump...

Tris Crescent | 87 comments For some reason I feel like I read this book, but it could just be a book with a similar event. Do you remember horses or ponies in the book?
I tried looking up some books based on horses/ponies that may have a disappearing lighthouse/house/hill, and I found “Secret of the Night Ponies” (2009) by Joan Hiatt Harlow. I do remember at one point reading this book, and I think it does have some feature that disappears because of tides, but it’s been a while so I’m not positive.

message 18: by Autumn (new)

Autumn Francia | 66 comments that book doesnt sound familiar, and i would have read the book at least a decade before that time..

Rainbowheart | 28699 comments The Mystery of the Dark Lighthouse?

Was it a mystery? Was there anything in the book about ghosts or other fantasy-ish things?

message 20: by Autumn (new)

Autumn Francia | 66 comments it was indeed very likely a mystery/fantasy, as that is my favorite genre; but aside from what ive already put i really cannot remember more. ... this is also a bump

Autumn, what's the mood/tone - mystery, thriller, scary, adventure, funny at times, somber, sad, etc.?

Are there fantastical creatures such as ghosts?

How old is the main character (child/boy/girl)?

A guess - High Tide by Stephen Williams? Here's a cover image: https://www.worldcat.org/title/high-t...

message 23: by Autumn (new)

Autumn Francia | 66 comments there are ghosts i believe, the main char is a child, or maybe a child that meets another child. the path to the (I still think its a lighthouse) disappears when the tides are up. the book feels mysterious and sad and somber a bit. the post kelly rhannon cuff put up sounds closest but they never say the name of the book and i havent seen another post by that person. this is a late bumping
