That's okay. It fits a couple of other challenges, and was already on my TBR, so that's okay. Plus, Natalie probably would have caught me! :)

Review: You know those books you add to your TBR because one of your friends added it to theirs and it showed up on your homepage? Those ones you know you'll probably never read, but you put on there anyway? This book was one of those for me. In fact, over the years, this challenge and has forced me to read quite a few books like that. Too many of them have been stinkers. But a few have been gems. This was one of those gems. It was YA with no love triangle. No insta-love. A nicely developed universe (although I'm looking forward to learning more about it). The parents were absentee, but only because the troubled child was sent to work on her uncle's "farm" for the summer. So it was parents-at-their-wit's-end, not absentee. In short, it was a shining example of YA paranormal fantasy.

:O A very long book ;) BTW, 200 is the minimum number of pages, isn't it?

I'll do a re-read of

Love those books! And the author is quite active on Facebook, interacting a lot in various groups. That's fun.

This is a bit of mix between Lovecraft, sherlock (the name, Wartson, and few more things) and a fantasy/magic book. There are some chapters, from a specific POV, which tend more to Lovecraft and others more to magic, and alternate Victorian era, where magic is inside the thread of the society. For me, perhaps because I've begun almost at the end of the series and I don't "know" the characters, it lacks of coherence, it looks like trying to make a salad mixing a lot of ingredients but not getting a dish but a mixture.
Perhaps I'll try the previous one, where I think Holmes and Watson are introduced, but I'm not so sure.

Finally finished this. I do apologize for my tardiness. I did enjoy it, I just have not been in a reading mood.
Going into this series, I knew it was a Beauty and the Beast-ish retelling, I had enjoyed what I read of her Throne of Glass series, and many of my friends enjoyed it.
Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites (I love the musical) and I thought they included those aspects well, while still leaving it open for more.

I look forward to continuing.

I'm going to change out my UF book to a reread. I've been trying to save my reread, but I think I need to use it. Should be quick and then I'll get to my gothic horror book. It looks like we are the only ones who need assassins so if it does get called we (aka me) still have a week to get caught up. Though, as Laura is aware, I read best under pressure.

I prefer the original too, put I like some "pastiches". Not this, however.

6th grade? Late bloomer! Although I never read it in school. I might have been in 5th grade, but I think I was younger. :)

At least I've made up for it now :D

At least I've made up for it now :D"
My parents gave it to me. Forced me to read it. I pretended I hated it. Then devoured Lord of the Rings. Then moved on to their Xanth novels. :)

I'm sure there are many classics I missed. Because I was obsessed with reading and re-reading The Black Stallion series. Or any horse book, really. :)

I've been dying to reread Kate Daniels in anticipation of Iron and Magic and Magic Triumphs being released this year. The fact that I have one reread for this challenge has made this difficult.
This is my least favorite Kate Daniels book. The world building is a bit confusing for a first time reader and the story felt a bit rushed to me. It's clearly a first book and they had to cut a lot before publication.
That all being said, I really enjoyed it the first time I read it and I get much more pleasure out of reading it again with the knowledge of what's to come. Partially, that (to me at least) it only gets better from here.
I do think this is a good introduction to the Kate Daniels series. And I love meeting all the characters I will come to love and hate over the next 8 books (plus short stories), especially the ones I forgot were in this (view spoiler)
Onto Magic Burns! After I finish other books for SOS!

I hate horror. I blame my active imagination. However, books are usually fine. I haven't read a ton of Neil Gaiman, but his stuff to me isn't too bad. Coraline had some creepy parts.
So when I say I planned to read a few chapters before bed in my dark bedroom via Kindle Paperwhite (thank you technology) only to have the last chapter I read involves (view spoiler)
Basically, I still hate horror. *shudders*
Neil Gaiman, for whatever reason, never connects with me. I typically enjoy adaptations of his books, but reading them just doesn't connect on the level I feel it should considering my love of fantasy.
This book was no different. It was fine. I don't plan on a reread and my thoughts of the author remain the same.

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit how long I stared at that before figuring out who Mr. R is. :)

Alexia Tarabotti is a Preternatural, someone without a soul. This is Victorian England and werewolves, vampires & ghosts abound but no-one of the Ton know about preternaturals, especially as Alexia is the only one in England.
Lord Connall Maccon, alpha of the London Pack is also Head of BUR, the society charged with all things supernatural. They keep bumping into each other and the sarcastic comments fly.
With disappearing vampires & lone werewolves; wax automatons; scientists obsessed with octopus designs, electricity & blood transference & Ivy with her outrageous hats, dirigibles & treacle tarts, Alexia must combine with Connall to find all the answers.
Great first book to the series.
