Lucky! The books I was hoping for were not tagged that way.

Sandra | 25911 comments Yeah, people are weird. LOL.

Marisa (moretta) | 1333 comments Subject to change (of course), I think that for Immortals I'm going to read Act of Mercy, shelved 1 time by a kind person.

Act of Mercy (Immortal Ops PSI-Ops, #1) by Mandy M. Roth

Sandra | 25911 comments If you read this one Marisa, interested to see what you think. I've had it since it was published, but just haven't gotten around to it.

Mandy was one of the first authors I read on the computer as opposed to DTBs, and I always enjoyed them.

Sandra | 25911 comments I think I'll either go with House Immortal (House Immortal, #1) by Devon Monk or Steph found Burn Bright (Alpha & Omega, #5; Mercy Thompson World - Complete, #15) by Patricia Briggs is tagged

If I go with BB I'll have to buy the kindle now & not look at the hideous cover & buy the pb in 12 mths time, so it matches most of my books in the series.

message 106: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments Definitely reading Burn Bright, I'm at 60% and I wish she'd write faster so we didn't have to wait so long between books, and that goes for Mercy books as well.

Laura | 1168 comments My daughter read a rumor that the next book will be Mercy Thompson, but after that we might get a book about Tom & Moira.

Sandra | 25911 comments Well Storm Cursed is due in 12 mths time, so we'll just have to wait & see.

Sandra | 25911 comments I've finished Burn Bright (Alpha & Omega, #5; Mercy Thompson World - Complete, #15) by Patricia Briggs will do a little thinking then come back with a review :)

Shelf #2: Immortals
Date: 17/3/18
Rating: ★★★★

This story deserved 5 stars, (view spoiler)

It was interesting meeting the wildings, wolves so broken they couldn't even live as part of the Marrock's pack. A couple of the older wolves, Bran, Charles, Asil and a couple of others are tasked with checking in on them periodically, to make sure they are ok.

As soon as the word Traitor is bandied about, I thought about who it could be, and yes the person did spring to mind, but so did a couple of others. The other twist was completely out of the blue and was very intense. Leah was painted in a better light in this story, but I still hate her and I don't think that will change.

message 112: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments So, I'm switching to Dark Planet Warriors The Complete Serial (Dark Planet Warriors, #1) by Anna Carven for Futuristic Romance. Already at 25% :)

Review: I was a bit let down by this book. I quite enjoyed the first one, but in this one Mina is pretty whiney, and goes around feeling sorry for herself.

Also, some editing was needed

Act of Mercy (Immortal Ops PSI-Ops, #1) by Mandy M. Roth

Review

I don't know how I feel about this book. Perhaps, as it's a spin-off, I need more background in the series but I'm not so sure, as lack of background is not something that usually bothers me. It has been a very OK book but too much in the flat side, I'm afraid.I don't usually have problems either with instant-lust or geek characters but I think this book is too much (view spoiler)

So, it's a mew reading (just the middle) and I don't know if I will read another book in the series. If I wouldn't have been reading it because of bingo, it would have been left in the earlier stages, but in the end it improved a bit.

Review:

I love finishing a series. Such a sense of accomplishment :) Overall I enjoyed this series, but I think Percy Jackson was better. My favorite thing about Rick Riordan's books is how accurate he is to the original myths and how he brings them into the modern day in a believable way. This series was especially fun (for me at least) as it was built around the differences in Greek mythology and Roman mythology, which are usually lumped together.

Nico is a character who has intrigued me throughout both series and I was thrilled to finally get his point of view. Reyna was a standout as well. I highly recommend both series to fans of YA fantasy and greek/roman mythology.

I look forward to moving on to his Asgard series. Or maybe I should finally finish Kane series? I'll have to see what category comes up next.

Sandra | 25911 comments Dark Planet Warriors The Complete Serial (Dark Planet Warriors, #1) by Anna Carven
Shelf #1: Futuristic Romance
Date: 19/3/18
Rating: ★★★★

The big, bad scary warriors have damaged their spacecraft in a battle & travelled through a wormhole, right to the human space station Fortuna Tau. Earth is in the Ninth Sector, and the Kordolian warriors come from Kythia in Sector One. They are in a hurry to get their ship fixed so they can get back to the battle before the wormhole closes and General Tarak doesn't want to waste time with diplomacy when he can use force instead.

The humans of course, aren't happy, and a few are even dead unhappy, but Abbey, a plant bio-geneticist keeps running into him in corridors & the garden which generates all the air for the station etc. Unfortunately along with the warriors on the ship is also one of their enemies - a giant insect creature which appears to do nothing but eat people & fight to live, and they like gardens & the humidity.

When Abbey is severely injured in a 100ft fall escaping the monster, Tarak takes her to his home planet to be healed. And then the fun really begins.

Enjoyed this story and will be reading the rest of them.

Natalie | 549 comments I'll have to think about this, but I should have plenty of options. Still getting through Feversong. I have about 3 or 4 hours left and still hope to finish it this week.

edit: I'll be reading Shades of Milk and Honey

message 130: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments I'll either be reading Lure of Oblivion (Mercury Pack, #3) by Suzanne Wright or Summer Knight (The Dresden Files, #4) by Jim Butcher

I'm not a fan of Dresden, so I picked up Summer Knight from the library & thought I'd give it another try. So we'll see. If Summer Knight is a bust, I'll use Lure of Oblivion, which I know I'll love.

message 131: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments Sandra, those are excellent in audio. James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) reads them. I’m thoroughly enjoying listening as I re-read these.

I just started the third In Death book last night. :( But I’ve got both Obsidio and Tempests and Slaughter from the library to read this week. I’ll check and see if they work when I get to my computer in a bit.

message 132: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments Sadly I'm not an audio fan, though I do love Spike :)

They're replaying Buffy on one of the retro tv channels, and I caught the first ep the other day, the hubby said he'd never seen the first one. LOL. We have the entire series on dvd.

message 133: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments I can only do audio for re-reads. I’ve done the Court of Thorns & Roses books and I’m up to #11 in Dresden.

Moondance (moondance120) | 2140 comments Years ago my primary care physician was a huge Buffy fan. She was constantly telling me to lower my stress levels. She actually wrote a prescription for me to start watching Buffy. I got hooked. I was seeing her monthly at the time and we spent quite a bit of time discussing Buffy, Angel and books. I miss her!

message 135: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3) by Amie Kaufman is tagged Part of a Series by 3 people, so I'll go with that one.

Sandra | 25911 comments There were some great eps - the all singing & dancing ep was an absolute classic!

The Vice Princ. who got eaten later on, was a big feature on the 1st ep, which I'd forgotten. I just kept thinking of him as monster food while watching. LOL

message 138: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments I'm a huge Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Dollhouse/Dr. Horrible/Agents of Shield fan :) and Spike was my favorite character. I can never get used to James Marsters's voice without the accent though. I've started Dresden but still haven't gotten into it. I listened to the first one and then read the next two. Maybe I should go back to the audiobooks.

Also I still need to watch Runaways. That might will ease me into getting used to him without the accent.

Laura | 1168 comments Shelf 3: Part of a Series
Book: Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3) by Amie Kaufman
Pages: 615
How it fits: Shelved 3 times as Part of a Series
Read: 3/25
Rating: 5 stars

Review: Wow! This was a great end to a trilogy. If you love a good space opera (and I do, I really, really do!) these books deliver. I kind of wish I had waited to read them until they were all out, because there are events from the first book that I can't quite remember, but this book walked the line between too much and not enough reminders, without crossing over.

As in the other books, we get a new couple here, but the old couples are still integral parts of the story. And the evil A.I.? He's still (view spoiler)

All in all, a good read and a wild ride. I highly recommend this series, although the format does not lend itself well to e-book. But I understand the audio is incredible!

I NEED to read this book. You guys are killing me! You know I need another series to start.

message 147: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments Cheryl, its much more fun if you've read the other books first, even though this is a first in series, its a spin-off. You could just read this one, but there are a lot of characters from the Pride Series.

I see you've read When He Was Bad (Magnus Pack, #3.5) by Shelly Laurenston & Irene & Niles are in this one briefly, but some of the other characters from the other books play a much bigger part.

message 148: by Marisa (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 1333 comments Yes, I agree, it's much better if you read the Pride series, because in other way you don't get the fun about DeeAnn, or Mitch and the conga, or the double mouth 😉

Think it in this way, two new series 😂
