Hi all! This is my first time joining a book group- online or otherwise. As a kid I read all the time. However, here lately, life seems to have gotten in the way just a bit. I am making a more conscious decision to read and make it a priority. I am a mom of a 2 year old and a 4 year old, a kindergarten teacher during the week and a photographer on the weekends. Heya all!I'm really glad I found this group. :) I'd usually just read aimlessly, but I know this will help me plan a bit and read more than what I'd pick up if left completely to myself.
Birthday: May 5th
favorite books: Seriously no idea. I have no clue how to narrow this down. If I absolutely had to, like, if someone said that I had to pick a favorite book right this second, or I'd never be able to find a new favorite book because every book in the whole wide world would disappear, I would say Harry Potter since that was basically my childhood.
Favorite book genre: YA, definitely. I feel like that's almost cheating since YA doesn't technically have a genre. I also love romance, and historical fiction. Timetravel, SF and fantasy, any kind of fairy tale respin, paranormal, books where normal people are thrown in to supernatural situations, books with a spiritual theme, and I'm a sucker for happy endings. Sad endings well, make me feel kind of icky and unsatisfied, even if I absolutely loved the book.
Favorite Author: Again, no idea how to narrow this down. The genres say a lot, I think.
favorite color: I'm totally blind, so this is a bit of an interesting question. I'd have to say brown because it reminds me of earth and the garden and hard work and chocolate, which I absolutely love chocolate.
Favorite food: I already said chocolate, but actually my favorite foods are, in no particular order, shrimp, potatoes, cheese, and mushrooms. My dad made a dish with potatoes and mushrooms and cheese in it, and it was truly one of the best things ever. I also love Indian food. I can eat just about anything, no matter what spice level that has the Indian label on it. Chocolate, that's my kind of dessert: brownies, chocolate moose, anything creamy with chocolate in it, cheesecake. I'm hungry now...
Anywhere in the world: Hmm,somewhere warm. I really don't care. I absolutely can't stand winter. Probably somewhere tropical if I could, though I don't really like stiflingly hot either. I'm like Goldy Lox, I guess. Gotta have it just right. Maybe southern US?
I know I am a book addict because: I worry that my kindle app will take up all of the memory on my phone.

I coached basketball for 15 years and really enjoyed it until the last 3-4 yrs. LOL. I'm excited to meet people and get recommendations of awesome books!! For those curious onigiri is basically sushi rice formed into a triangle/oval that has a filling inside. Shabu shabu is hot pot but the term shabu comes from swishing the meat in the broth.

Hello, I'd like to join an Around the World challenge team. I'm already in the "Classics Without All the Class" and "1001 Books You Must Read" groups. I am trying to read more books lately by writers from other countries after realizing a few yrs ago that a large majority of the writers I've read are from the US, Britain and Canada. Last year I read 7 books by writers from Mexico, Australia, France, Russia, Ireland and Germany. I just finished The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco (Italian) and am about to start "The Shadow of the Wind" by Ruiz Zafon (Spanish).I live in Utah but was born and raised in Florida. I read a lot of old books- the oldest one I've read was Robinson Crusoe (1719). Occasionally I read nonfiction- usually a biography, memoir or science topic. I like historical novels, mysteries, novels set in other cultures. The writers whose novels I've read the most are Elmore Leonard, Kurt Vonnegut, Hemingway and Steinbeck. I'm trying to read more books by women writers recently as well.
I know I've become a book addict because: I keep a list of every book I've read and what I read each year for the last 7 years, etc.
