message 14: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments I just saw it Sharon. Thanks

message 15: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments Hi! I am wondering how serious everyone is about winning the challenge??? (or getting as close as possible) I've got a few ideas, but I tend to be competitive and don't always know when to just hang back and keep my mouth shut. So....I thought I would just ask.

Do we want to have a shot? or do we just want to see how things go?

message 16: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments What do you have in mind?

message 17: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments I just have a few suggestions on how we could be more strategic in our reading. I could message you my ideas if you like.

message 18: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments Sure.

message 19: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 25, 2018 04:36PM) (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments Hey gang, Here are the buddy reads I am planning on participating in the 1st half of the month:

G - Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2) by Victoria Aveyard
S - Scythe (Arc of a Scythe, #1) by Neal Shusterman
W - What Lies Beneath (Enigma #1) by Ditter Kellen
T or K - The Kuthun (The Kuthun, #1) by S.A. Carter
I - Iron Gold (Red Rising, #4) by Pierce Brown
A or S - A Strange Hymn (The Bargainer, #2) by Laura Thalassa
L - Long May She Reign by Rhiannon Thomas

What Lies Beneath will likely lead to an "N", a "V" and a "Z" very quickly since those are the next books in the series (assuming it doesn't stink and we don't want to continue reading).

What are you guys planning on reading?

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments Oh! I forgot to mention, I could also re-read The Girl With All the Gifts (The Girl With All the Gifts #1) by M.R. Carey and Ready Player One (Ready Player One, #1) by Ernest Cline if we need the letters and BR's.

RPO is one of my favorite books and I love listening to the audiobook with Will Wheaton as the narrator.

message 21: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments I can read both books with you. It would be a year since I read RPO.

message 22: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments I can do Scythe with you as well. Been wanting to read that one as well.

message 23: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments Cool! the BR's have already been set up, so there should be a few of us. I think Scythe is with Bookbuyer and I don't know who set up RPO.

message 24: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments YES! It's the reason why I've changed to a serious team. I feel really competitive. Now, I'm hyped up. We're up against strong teams. I'm willing to listen to your ideas.

message 27: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments I will add them. Going to make a private group for us.

message 28: by Jennifer (new)

Christine | 902 comments Elusion sounds intriguing. I'm adding it to my TBR

message 30: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments I'm looking for someone to BR with You (You, #1) by Caroline Kepnes
Let me know if you're interested I'll request the thread.

message 31: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments We only have one available for letter Q. I'm reading that letter.

message 32: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments Only one available letter for X as well. I'll take that letter.

message 33: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments Does anyone have a "Q" planned? We only need one so it doesn't make sense to buddy together within our group.

There are a couple of books I have on my Want to Read list that will fit, I can try to find someone in another group unless someone is already tackling that letter.

Also looks like we will need some M's, P's, N's, and all the vowels pretty soon so be on the look out.

message 34: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments I’m looking at some BRs to jump into this month. I know a few letters that we got, but I think we need a plan of which letter we will use for each book before inputting it into the progress thread.

message 35: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments Does anyone else have Kindle Unlimited?

message 36: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments I don’t. I usually get books from my friends.

message 37: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 27, 2018 10:00AM) (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments As near as I can tell, here is what we have planned so far. Wow, we really need those vowels.
need/Planned:
A - 9/1
B - 2/3
C - 2/2
D - 4/2
E - 12/1
F - 2/2
G - 3/3
H - 2/1
I - 9/3
J- 1/1
K - 1/1
L - 4/1
M - 2/1
N - 6/1
O - 8/0
P - 2/1
Q - 1/1
R - 6/6
S - 4/3
T - 6/1
U - 4/2
V - 2/1
W - 2/2
X - 1/1
Y - 2/2
Z - 1/1
blank -2/0

message 38: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments There's only one tile for X and we have 2 planned reads for that letter alone. Are you reading an X, Jennifer? I can delay my read for this one.

message 39: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments Let's just check the other title translation if need be.

message 40: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments Christine wrote: "There's only one tile for X and we have 2 planned reads for that letter alone. Are you reading an X, Jennifer? I can delay my read for this one."

No, I don't have an X until later in the month, so go ahead.

I edited the need/planned above so it is easier to read. I didn't realize it was so skewed when I pressed "post".

message 41: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments I might have a couple more "I's" if I can get through the 1st book in some of my series. There is a BR for Ensnared by Rita Stradling that I will try to join.

Does anyone want to read Edinburgh Twilight (Ian Hamilton Mysteries #1) by Carole Lawrence with me for an E? I've already downloaded it and have it ready, but it would be nice to read with someone.

message 42: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments Man, I'm feeling nervous about this challenge. XD

message 43: by María (new)

María | 2037 comments It is so complex. I dont have any buddy reads planned yet but I can do many as required.

message 44: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments OK, I am almost done with Glass Sword and should be able to review it tonight. Since we only need two G's and Sharon and I are reading Girl with All the Gifts later, what do you say I put it under the Z version? There is also an edition with over 600 pages, so we would get the max out of that letter. The other Z book I had planned was only 300 pages.

What do you think team?

message 45: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments I think that is a good idea.

message 46: by Christine (new)

Christine | 902 comments Jennifer wrote: "OK, I am almost done with Glass Sword and should be able to review it tonight. Since we only need two G's and Sharon and I are reading Girl with All the Gifts later, what do you say I put it under ..."

Put it under Z. I'm not reading any Z. I was actually hoping someone would take it.

message 47: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10996 comments Hey team, let me know which letter you chose for the books you are reading. I am going to update the progress thread. The two Gs and Z are taken, so I will update those first.

Count me in!

message 49: by María (new)

María | 2037 comments I have an M (sorry I posted this
many times)

message 50: by Jennifer (last edited Mar 02, 2018 08:24AM) (new)

Jennifer | 3530 comments Hey Ladies, Sarah needs us to respond to her question about Joi's review.

I'm torn. We need more T's but I think we won't have too much trouble getting them once we get started, and we already have too many B's planned. There are other editions that could be a P or an L too.

Also, we said that we would try to stick the non-BR's under Blanks at first. Is that what you want to do for this one?? Joi, will you mind if we do that?
