March Group Read Nominations
I'm in the mood for some short stories so how about
I'm especially intrigued because the feature story takes place in the NJ Pine Barrens and has to do with the Jersey Devil, so home territory stuff for me.
I'll also suggest
because I just bought it :-)"For years, the residents of Deer Valley have murmured about these unsolved crimes…and that a killer may still be lurking around their quiet town. Now, fear is reborn—"
Oh! Oh! I have a new book that I have been dying to read! :D SomeTHING is lurking in the deep sea....
Into the Drowning Deep " New York Times bestselling author Mira Grant, author of the renowned Newsflesh series, takes us to a new world of ancient mysteries and mythological dangers come to life. Seven years ago, the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a "mockumentary" bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend. It was lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy. Now, a new crew has been assembled. But this time they're not out to entertain. Some seek to validate their life's work. Some seek the greatest hunt of all. Some seek the truth. But for the ambitious young scientist Victoria Stewart, this is a voyage to uncover the fate of the sister she lost.Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the waves. But the secrets of the deep come with a price. "
I'll nominate Thomas Ligotti's Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe, in order to give me an excuse to read my own copy.
I will second Gilded Needles by Michael McDowell and Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe by Thomas Ligotti. They are both high on my TBR pile.
saying this for a try im saying this book because to me surely theirs themes of horror in it Jurassic park , obviously im referring to the dinosaur attacks , the movie had my boy hiding
I will once again nominate Dark Mountain
because I would LOVE to read something by Richard Laymon ! --Jen from Quebec :0)
Oh no. Come on guys, Final Girls sucked. Don’t be swayed by the pricy marketing campaign.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I’m down with “the drowning deep” because submarines scare the bejesus out of me and I’ve heard (but not read) good things about grimscribe so I’ll put my name to that too
JaeRavenClaw wrote: "I'll third Gilded Needles Very interested in reading that one."Really anything by Michael McDowell is amazing. I have already read this one and really enjoyed it.
I can get behind Into the Drowning Deep and Gilded Needles. Neither of these are considered YA reads, are they?
Scott wrote: "I can get behind Into the Drowning Deep and Gilded Needles. Neither of these are considered YA reads, are they?"I don't know about Into the Drowning Deep, but Gilded Needles is Definitely NOT YA.

Thanks Matthew. I tend to tune out on YA pretty quickly. Looking to read something I know very little about. Both of these sound interesting.
Scott wrote: "I can get behind Into the Drowning Deep and Gilded Needles. Neither of these are considered YA reads, are they?"I don't know about Drowning Deep, but McDowell is definitely not YA. I haven't read Gilded Needles yet, but I loved his The Elementals. It's an exquisite slow burn Southern Gothic.
I've heard good things about A God in the Shed. It might be a fun read. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

I feel the same way about YA titles... and I am pretty sure that Into the Drowning Deep is NOT a YA title. It was not in the YA section of the bookstore when I bought it. :)
Lance wrote: "I've heard good things about A God in the Shed. It might be a fun read."That is on my TBR list... I almost suggested it for the group listen.
I want to nominate The Other by Thomas Tryon bc i just got a used copy of it for very cheap.I see the kindle is 10 bucks though which seems like a lot? it's supposed to be very good, though.

Richard Laymon died 17 years ago this very month. I'd like to bring attention to this man's brilliant talent for writing great horror.I'm nominating Richard Laymon's 'One Rainy Night' as well as I'd like to second a previously nominated 'Dark Mountain'- also by Laymon.
I've just started 'Dream Woods' by Patrick Lacey which would be a kickass group read for us.
Nancy wrote: "What about The Ritual then we can all watch the movie on Netflix when we are done reading?"I'd second that.
