I have a hard time breaking up with a series, but lately I find it more easy to. But I know there are some that I really need to.
I think maybe I need to create a shelf for this. Then maybe another for series I thinking of breaking up with.
I haven't read DBD in years, so I consider I've broken up with the bros. I've even got 3 or 4 or 5 books on my shelf I haven't read and can't work up any interest either.

How far into the series are you? I feel like I have not read one of those books in ages.

I've read them all so far, usually read new ones the week they're released.

I broke up with the Dark Hunter novels after reading Styxx. I just couldn't do it anymore. I haven't read any of the newer books in the series.

I'm not sure, when I last read any of the books Nick was angry and bitter. I've debated trying to pick up where I left off but can't do it. The earlier books were so good too

That was the beginning of the end.
I agree Dawn. It was hard enough for me to Acheron and I love Acheron. Then reading Styxx I couldn't take anymore.
I've broken up with lots of series; DBD, the dark hunter books, Anita Blake. Pretty sure there are more that I got busy and didn't realize new books were released and now are super behind in.
I read the first book in the Outlander series and loved it but after really having to work through Dragonfly in Amber and still trying to finish it. i might be breaking up with the series even though i own the whole series. I'm not sure though this book has just been boring.
I broke up w/BDB this past book. I haven't been happy with the last few books but The Chosen was too terrible for words and I'm irrationally angry at Ward for it. She's dead to me after that crap. I recently realized that I've broken up w/ Midnight Breed when I saw a new one had come out and I didn't even know or care. I just couldn't get on board with the new generation. It's a great idea but the execution didn't work for me. It lost the magic of the original books.
I guess I'm odd man out on IAD. I still love it. I've liked certain books more than others but I still really like the series overall.
Anne wrote: "Mary Janice Davidson's Betsy - Queen of the Vampires got so stupid could not read it any longer."I gave that one up too. It's too bad because the early ones were good.

I loved them - then they just got ridiculous.

Sandra wrote: "I've read a couple of Queen Betsy and thought most of them were ridiculous."I've heard the Fashionably Dead series is similar to them. I read the first book, and it was insanely ridiculous. The Prada obsession. The "Chosen One" stuff. Ugh.
I will be honest and say I think it is tough to keep a series going or a long time. Some who do it are so amazing like Kim Harrsion I think the Rachel series got better, Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh.I just wonder as an author do you feel your own series getting stale so that is why it feels so bizarre to me the reader?
Sometimes I read the 1st book in a series and don't like it enough to to continue. Series that Used to enjoy but gave up on are the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton from book 9 the focus shifted away from the relationship with Jean-Claude & Richard and there wasn't much of resolution. Also to much focus on descriptions of how Anita looks and Anita always being the most powerful an also really bad editing.
I gave up on the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher because it just takes to long for the next book to come out an I discovered new authors that I like even more.
The Mercy Thompson and Southern vampire series I just lost interest in.
Definitely Anita Blake and Dresden for me as well. I got tired of Anita after it stopped being an Urban Fantasy series and I liked other Dresden-like characters better than Dresden. No need to waste my time.I also couldn't keep reading the Dorina Basarab series by Karen Chance even though I loved the Cassie Palmer books. No idea.
Yeah, Mercy got a little 'eh' but then really picked up with the last book.
