Spreadsheet updated to here. I really could do with the rest of peoples preferences, so we can work out who's reading what to fill the card.
Thanks Lynn!Do you mean preferences of the people who haven't gophered yet, or from everyone? I'm flexible with those tasks I mentioned earlier, don't really have a preference.
Maybe at some point we (you) should just start assigning tasks to people, especially the more difficult ones, and then people who haven't posted their preferences can fill up the easier tasks (like male/female author, one word title, etc.).
Let us know if you need a hand with something!
Also, do we have a score tracker for next week? Might be a bit much if you have to do the organizing and the tracking.
Oh, and do you want to change our thread's title to 'there's no I in team?' Maybe we can use Vicki's suggestion of 'I on the prize' for our reporting thread?
I meant the people who hadn't gophered yet, as I would have preferred to have assigned tasks once I had everyone's input. However yes, I think I might start doing that tomorrow regardless and hope that the others can fill the tasks left. The spreadsheet is already set up to keep track of points, so it's no real hardship for me to do it. But yes I will set up a separate thread for reporting before the Toppler starts :)
So I've had a go at filling in the card with what we have. I tried to leave the more easier categories for latecomers to fill in (wasn't always possible). Currently what's left is:
MC is teacher / professer
Set during a war
Young Adult
Free space
One word title
Female Author
Laura, Annerlee and Naomi still have to be 'assigned' any categories as I don't have their preferences.
Of course, things can still be changed around at the moment ....
Thanks Lynn. I will read the 3 assigned to me, maybe more.MC is a teacher and set during a war look like they might be tough for us.
I can read 'female author' and MC teacher / professor. I dont have the titles yet,but I'm sure I'll find something on my tbr list
I can do one word title and others needed. I do plant to read several books, so will try to select those that fit multiple categories and may also fit card #2.
Annerlee wrote: "I can read 'female author' and MC teacher / professor. I dont have the titles yet,but I'm sure I'll find something on my tbr list"Reading
At the Mountains of Madness for Professor MC or horror
Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race on audiobook (female author or non fiction).
Is that ok?
I'm going to read Cherry Cheesecake Murder for 'job you'd like to have' and Howl's Moving Castle for 'first book in a series'. I'm excited to start!
Lynn, As long as everyone has a first book planned and their name on any other's, my plan for my second and next books is to see what is open and let you know what I can read next. I really DO, have a book to fit every category on the first card. I have not looked beyond that.
Presuming we finish card1, are we continuing with card 2? Card 3 looks a lot friendlier ... to me at least.Id like to find a few more books as backup and it would be good to know which categories to check.
Annerlee, yes, we have to do card 2 after card 1. Books read for card 3 won't count until card 2 is complete, and it's pretty certain we won't get that far.
Oh - I see you have assigned me to two other books. Great! I can do these! It will be The Girls of August
for beach umbrella and I will let you know for the police book. Could be The Coroner's Lunch or Still Life or Sweet Money: An Inspector Lascano Mystery or The Water's Edge, depending on the page length.
Ok, every category has been assigned with the exception of the 'Free Space' which I thought could be filled by whoever gets there first ..... which will probably be Lara, as she only has one category assigned so far. With that in note, if anyone feels they are going to struggle with the amount they've been assigned shout now. That way we can probably give it to Lara (or swap something around).
I'm going off to put together card 2 spreadsheet now.
Card 2 is now ready on the spreadsheet ..... do we think it's worth trying to assign task to anyone who thinks they'll get there? Or do we think we can just choose at the time?
I will definitely read at least 1 category for card 2. It might be good to have a plan of action of which lines to tackle first.
Ah yes, it would make sense to try and complete lines rather than just random spots (totally forgot about that). So for anyone who thinks they'll get to card 2, please let me know your preferences (who haven't already).
I will copy the card two list and look over my books to see what I have available - IF I can get my three books read in time.
I can certainly read the "free" book. Also, I have books for pretty much everything on card #2, so can fill in there as well.
For card 2 I can read any two from the following... Brings my total to 4 books.Row 1:
Trees on cover
Standalone
Row 2:
Set in 1900s
Mystery or Thriller
Row 3:
Set in the United States
Free Space! - Read any book
Nonfiction
Person with a hat on the cover
Row 4:
Historical Fiction
Set in England
Author debut
Row 5:
Family relationship in title (e.g. daughter)
Author's name begins with T
Classic
For card 2, I can read:Row 1
Standalone
Family Drama
Told in Animal's Perspective
Row 2
Set in 1900s
Mystery or Thriller
Row 3
Set in US
Non Fiction
Row 4
HF
Author Debut
Row 5
Family relationship in title
Mountain Setting
Author's name starts with T
and I could probably dig up a Classic

Just checking through the posts and just noticed this - Anna please note that I put you down for Horror rather than Epistolary. I hope you don't mind but it fit better that way for the team.
Ok, I've filled in Card 2 to the best that I can however I don't have all the info yet ..... Lara - You have 2 books on card 1 (I put you down for the free space), which I believe means you can read 3 books for card 2 but I don't have your preferences.
Naomi, Anna - You both originally said you might be able to read 1 more book than you've been assigned. However I've not got your preferences .... so assuming you can't do any extra?
Peggy, Cherie, Vicki & siriusedward - I've put your preferences in card 2 .... however I think we may have hit your maximum books on card 1?
Annerlee wrote: "Cherie wrote: "For card 2, I can read:..."How many of these can you potentially manage?"
Maybe two, depending on what I read - IF I finish all three for card 1. I have several that are under 250 pages. I should probably remove myself from The tree on cover. The only book I have has 493 pages.
The books I am assigned to on card 1 are 352 pages, 240 pages, and 223 pages.
I am going to check in at the toppler start tomorrow morning - my time @ 9:00am PST, but then I am off to ride the MAX train into downtown Portland to watch my granddaughter, Danyell, and her Cheer team from McMinnville High School compete in the Oregon State Cheer Championship tournament. I have an hour and a half ride so I will be taking my Nook with me to read my first book. Hopefully I will get a little reading in between watching the teams compete.
Cherie - You didn't put yourself down for Tree on cover anyway :)I'm going to be out most of the day and evening too but will have my kindle with me. I will be back online to record anything on Sunday.
Please remember to report any finished books in the reporting thread, NOT this thread (link in the top comment of this thread)

Lara wrote: "Lynn, for card 2 I'll read Z-title, witches/wizards, and food on cover."Hi Lara - Is that the only three you can do, or did you offer to do these because they were currently blank? (totally fine if it's the former)
I'm asking because it would probably be more useful for you to do 3 in the same row or column. That way we only need two more people to read a book and then we get extra points for completing a row or a column.
Lynn, yes, it's unlikely that I'll read more than 2. If it turns out I can fit a 3rd one in, I'll check in here to see which task would be best.
I've updated my post 27. I will probably be able to do at least one audiobook for card 2. I'm off to work now so I'll be about 5 hours late to the toppler :( Happy Reading everyone!

Hi team. I'm checking in. I've started my first book for Starts with a V, Valkyrie Rising and I'm off to catch the MAX train into Portland.
Lynn wrote: "Just checking through the posts and just noticed this - Anna please note that I put you down for Horror rather than Epistolary. I hope you don't mind but it fit better that way for the team. ."That's ok. The Nun will easily fit for 2nd card.

Do you know if the books you listed for card 2 also fit other tasks? If not that's no problem, but if they do it's always good to know so that we have options in case we want to switch things around.
And yes, toppler books can be combined with all other reading activities.
