First quarter - (view spoiler)[This is my second time reading the book and I had forgotten how emotional this first chapter is. Dottie is bright, independent, and I immediately liked her. It really tugged on the heartstrings to see her doomed so quickly.

I love Stevie just as much. Her parents mean well but it really hurt to read of how little they understood her. I loved seeing her find her place within the group of exceptional misfits at the academy. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter - (view spoiler)[I really enjoy the split-chronological perspectives. Stevie is still finding her place within the Academy and the reader is also still getting to know her and her new surroundings. The historical perspective gives more information about the original crime and what exactly occurred. These snippets of information makes me as intrigued about the crime as Stevie is. Well, almost as intrigued.

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[Another murder and this time a contemporary one. Stevie's parents are understandably upset and scared and I can understand why they want to take their daughter away from a place so marred by murder. Even though this is a reread I can't seem to remember who the murderer is but I have many theories over who could have taken the dry ice and wanted him dead. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[Ugh! I remember that cliffhanger ending from my first reading! I'm glad I have the next two books in this series ready to dive straight into.

I didn't want either David or Element to have been the killer, but Element least of all. She was so free and wild and I loved her character instantly. I guess I also didn't want Stevie to have kissed a killer either, though. I wonder where Element disappeared too? I feel she is covering for someone, but who?

The 'always on a staircase but never on a stair' riddle was starting to haunt me as well as Stevie by the end! (hide spoiler)]

Yes I read this book a looong time ago before any of the sequels were out, and I've read the 13 Little Blue Envelopes duology. It was decent but Truly Devious was much better, and I've heard great things about the other two books.
