Tip I just learned about the TBR challenge, and I have a large TBR starting in 2011. So my plan is that at least half of my books listed here will be ones I acquired in 2011.

1. The Fate of Ten (Lorien Legacies, #6) by Pittacus Lore The Fate of Ten
The Fate of Ten (Lorien Series). Purchased in 2017. I enjoyed the book and series. It seems to be the last in the series, but the story is not over, so I hope more will be published. There are a number of novellas in the series I have not read yet.

Tip 1a. Lydia Bennet's Story: A Sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice
Lydia Bennet's Story A Sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice by Jane Odiwe

A freebie I purchased in 2011. I got as far as page 89 in this one. The writing is OK, but the story itself bores me to tears. Time to put this in my "Abandoned" collection and move on. It is a shame, because I love Pride and Prejudice.

I have a collection called "Oldies 2011" and I occasionally pick one from there, but this challenge has inspired me to be more intentional about it.

Tip 2. Letters of a Woman Homesteader Letters of a Woman Homesteader by Elinore Pruitt Stewart
A freebie I purchased in 2011.
Finished this short book. I really enjoyed it.

Tip 3. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 1 (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, #1) by Philip K. Dick
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 1 Acquired 2017.
Overall I enjoyed it. Dystopian and it became more disturbing at the end. Now I will have to watch Blade Runner to see how it compares.

TR Go Tip Go! =)

message 7: by Tip (new)

Tip Thanks Jessika and TR! I need the encouragement, as I am struggling with one that turned out to be something I would not normally read. But I am half way through it!

Tip 4. Roseflower Creek by Jackie Lee Miles
Roseflower Creek
I got this in early 2011 as a free book. I must have chosen it simply on the basis of it being free, having a pretty title, and a pretty cover. I could not have read the description; I would not have bought it if I did. It is certainly not a pretty story! While technically well written, it starts off with the horrific beating to death of a 10 year old girl. It then goes back in time, and is told from the point of view of that girl. I really wanted to put it down after the first couple pages. But I read it until the finish. I will mot read it again. I think it will stay with me for a long time, and not in a good way. Now I need something more upbeat!

Tip 5. The Sound of Glass by Karen White
The Sound of Glass
I bought this as an Audible book in August 2016 and I have been listening as I drive to and from work and on errands, etc. It is excellent and I highly recommend it. I loved the narrators and the story. It is funny, sad, inspiring, and engaging.

Tip 6. STUFFology 101 Get Your Mind Out of the Clutter by Brenda Avadian
STUFFology 101: Get Your Mind Out of the Clutter
Purchased September 2015. I finished listening to the audiobook version. It is about decluttering your life, from physical clutter and digital clutter. It has practical tips such as to start small, and to visualize what the space would look like and feel like without clutter. I think I should listen to a little of this every day or two to keep me motivated.

I need the constant motivation to declutter as well. I've been working on downsizing and decluttering since 2012! I'm making progress, but obviously it's been slow progress. One day at a time!

Tip 6a. Adventures of a Motorcycle Despatch Rider During the First World War by William Henry Lowe Watson
Adventures of a Motorcycle Despatch Rider During the First World War

Got this in early 2011. Abandoned reading it at 20%. Tedious reading with many minute, unimportant details, and no emotions or sense of who the people are.

Tip 7. Holy Habits by Andrew Roberts
Holy Habits
Bought this Fall of 2017. A lot of good information.

Tip 8. To Be Where You Are (Mitford Years #14) by Jan Karon
To Be Where You Are
A Mitford Novel by Jan Karon.
Purchased fall 2017. I was disappointed with the previous book in the series and was worried that the series was nearing its end. But this book is one of her best, and definitely a 5 star read! I was sorry to see it end. The younger generation has a big role in this book, so I expect more good things to come.

Tip 9. Spy Killer (Stories from the Golden Age) by L. Ron Hubbard
Spy Killer
Got it in 2011. I am not very familiar with pulp fiction (except for the movie, LOL). It was ok. It was a short read, because in the second half there was a long excerpt for another book.

Tip 10. The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony

https://www.audible.com/pd/Bios-Memoi...

Finished listening to the Audible version of The Elephant Whisperer. Purchased January 2015. It was fantastic, nonfiction. It kept me entertained and I learned a lot. I would love to stay there for a week or 2. I am going to check out some of his other books.

Tip 11. A Child al Confino A True Story of Escape in War-Time Italy by Enrico Lamet
A Child al Confino: A True Story of Escape in War-Time Italy
On my TBR since 2011. A very interesting read. This is a part of history I was not aware of.

Discovered this book has another title, and the only kindle version now available has the alternate title:
A Gift from the Enemy (A True Story of Escape in War-time Italy)
https://smile.amazon.com/Enemy-Story-...

Tip 11a .
This Fine Life by Eva Marie Everson
This Fine Life
On my TBR since 2011.
Abandoned. At page 35 I was totally bored. Skipped up to page 50 and felt like it was just the same thing all over again. Will not bother to try again.

An enjoyable read.

Tip 13. The Bass Wore Scales (The Liturgical Mystery #5) by Mark Schweizer
The Bass Wore Scales
On my TBR since 2011. This is the 5 th book in the Liturgical Mysteries. When I read the first book in 2011 I didn’t like the mystery book within the mystery book parts, but now I am used to them and enjoy them. A fun read.

13a. Adam's Bar-b-Que Ribs by Sugar Lee Ryder
Adam's Bar-b-Que Ribs
On my TBR since 2011. It is a short story that I read in about 10 minutes. So I am not counting it in the total number for the challenge, but still pleased to get it off my TBR! It is very different from what I have been reading lately.

Tip 14. On Sparrow Hill by Maureen Lang
On Sparrow Hill
On my TBR since 2011.
Enjoyable read. Light on the romance, which is the way I prefer it.

Tip 15. Life in Cape Town by CPT Team
Life in Cape Town
On my TBR since 2011
A collection of short essays about life in Cape Town, by a variety of people. Interesting, not a “polished” work. Just 41 pages. Makes me want to visit.

Tip 16 The Lost World (Professor Challenger, #1) by Arthur Conan Doyle
The Lost World
This is a classic I have been wanting to read forecer. I really enjoyed the audible version during my commute.

message 24: by Tip (last edited May 06, 2018 03:12PM) (new)

Tip 16a. Of Mice and Murderers (Z-Detective #1) by John Stockmyer
Of Mice and Murderers
On my TBR since 2011.
Abandoned at 10%
I was pulled in by the title. But that turned out to be the only thing I enjoyed. Do I really need to read an entire paragraph about picking up a newspaper from the walk? Does it help the story to tell who the other two newspapers on the walk are for?

Tip 17. The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells

Excellent book and series.

Tip 19. Singing the Lord's Song in a Strange Land by Joseph E. Lowery
Singing the Lord's Song in a Strange Land
On my TBR since 2011 and was a freebie when I got it.
Lowery worked alongside MLK Jr. and continued after the assassination. While there are some things I don’t agree with, I do respect his adherence to nonviolence in all aspects of his life. And I wish I had his facility with words when preaching!

message 28: by Tip (last edited May 06, 2018 03:19PM) (new)

Tip Well, I have read or abandoned over 12 books from my 2011 TBR, so that is good.

Tip 19a. The Case of the Flashing Fashion Queen (Dix Dodd Mystery, #1) by N.L. Wilson
The Case of the Flashing Fashion Queen
On my TBR since 2011. Abandoned at 15%. Not bad but I just didn’t find the characters interesting.

20. The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult
The Storyteller
On my TBR since May 2017
I listened to the Audible version. A great read, held my interest throughout. The narration took a little time to get used to, but then stopped distracting me.

Tip 21 The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton
The Seven Storey Mountain
On my TBR since 2013. I listened to the Audible version during my commute. I will listen to parts of it again to get the full effect.

Tip 25 Listen by Rene Gutteridge
Listen
I really enjoyed this. An interesting premise. It kept me guessing.

26. 13 Little Blue Envelopes (Little Blue Envelope, #1) by Maureen Johnson
13 Little Blue Envelopes

Enjoyed this one, too. So I decided to get the sequel. On my TBR since 2011.

message 34: by TR (new)

TR I just got 13 Little Blue Envelopes from the library. Haven't started it yet.

Tip 27a. Elvis and the Dearly Departed (A Southern Cousins Mystery, #1) by Peggy Webb
Elvis and the Dearly Departed

Got this as a freebie in 2011.
I abandoned this book at 15%. The “quirky” characters were just quirky enough to be annoying, rather than endearing.

message 38: by Tip (new)

Tip 27b

A Knight in Central Park by Theresa Ragan
A Knight in Central Park

Abandoned.
I got this in 2011, probably due to the setting. It is just too slow moving. And I don’t care that much for the characters.

Tip 28. The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
The Time Machine
