Ok I looked at the spreadsheet, and now I get it. Not every book needs to have a specific color on the cover and another qualifier. That makes it much easier to choose. I am looking forward to perusing the Eris member book lists. I'm sure I will find something to read for the reverse cards.

I can't believe we still have 24 1/2 more days until the challenge actually starts! I wish I could already start reading
, I'm so pumped for uno!!

i have 2 floor to ceiling bookcases but most of the books are non-fiction, encyclopaedias or travel related. I buy about 5 books a year and get everything else from my free sources :-
The Library - this is the most amazing place we have no library in our village but 5 in a 3 mile walking radius and a e-library
Kindle unlimited - good for searching title words
net galley some great books and some rubbish
I enter some giveaways on GR but not that lucky
Borrow from my son and daughter in law and my goddaughter

remember to remove background colours

unfortunately Who Fears Death won't work for red because it's too orange, but Hitch 22 will work for a yellow cover :)
I've got a list of books to use for reverse and color cards this month. I like to look at those first, that is the challenge part of Uno for me, and I enjoy the "hunt." I'll post them here over the next couple of days, or in our working spreadsheet when it is up and running.
Thanks for checking on those book covers Christina. I am going to read the Okanafor book anyway. I read her two (so far) Binti books, and loved them. I'll see if it fits with another card.
Checking in!Hello everyone,
I'm Dima. This is my third year playing uno. I have been unemployed for about a year and have been spending almost all of my waking time either reading or listening to audio books. However, I am going to start a new job soon so I'm not sure how much reading time I will have.
I look forward to starting this year's round.
Welcome, Dima! (Sorry if I ever write Duma, my iPad keeps autocorrecting your name sigh)tell us a bit more about yourself? and please link us to your UNO shelf! :)
We currently only have one member missing from our team, so we are almost ready :D Christina and I have linked the rules, countdown, points etc. in our posts on the first page. If you are unsure about anything read through them or ask us :)
Thanks, Daniela! Will we have a “working” spreadsheet where the team members list their books and all the cards they fulfill?
Laura wrote: "Thanks, Daniela! Will we have a “working” spreadsheet where the team members list their books and all the cards they fulfill?"
Good that you mention it, I forgot about it!
You'll post your books in here + the cards it works with (I'll add the format these posts should have in the comments on the first page). The co-captains and I will add them to the spreadsheet :)

No worries Christina. People misspell and mispronounce my name all the time so I'm used to it :D.
A little bit about myself: I love reading/listening to audiobooks. I usually go through periods of obsession over the genres that I read. Last year I got obsessed with the urban fantasy genre. Two years before that it was Crime and mystery. Right before that I was working on reading as many classics as I can and before that I was in love with historical romance novels. God only knows what I'll be obsessed with this year. haha.
On personal level, I'm 42, mother of 3 girls and going through a really rough time trying to end a marriage of 21 years. So please wish me luck with this new job so I can finally move out and on!
Dima's UNO-2018 Shelf
Dima,I wish you and your girls great luck with your new job, and the new chapter in your life you are embarking on.
I hope that all the books you read for this challenge are engaging and fun, and I hope that the support your new team will give you feels good.
Hey all just getting myself caught up on this challenge thus far! Sorry also for the late check-in. I'm Kirsten, the other co-captain & I reside in Atlantic Canada (GMT+3/4 - depending on daylight savings). I work at a rural regional hospital as a Communication Disorders Technician (meaning I provide speech therapy and hearing screening/testing for a variety of ages). My reading habits go in spurts but generally fall into the young adult or middle grade areas though I also enjoy autobiographies and historical fiction written for adults. I'm still a kid at heart. lol Any books I have on my to-read shelf are solely ones I literally own (mostly in hard copy) - yes I have book buying issues.
Welcome new and old comers to Uno 2018!
here's a link to my shelf as well: Uno2018
Hi all, I have found books to read for all of the cards in the first four hands (except for D2 books). I know that I will not be reading all of them, as others will be playing as well, but I would be happy to fill in holes that the team has with them. So, where and how do I post this list of potential books?
Looking for the next hands as well. I have an amazing amount of books on my to read list. This is a great way for me to actually read books that I bought over the years and just put on a shelf.

You just read whatever you feel like, as long as it can cover at least one of the cards so we can use it :) Once you finish one just post them in here with the book posting layout I added in the top comments of this thread. During the month we'll put all the books in the spreadsheet and we can always shuffle them around however needed :)
We just want to encourage you guys to read whatever book you feel like reading

That's great! Once we get started we will have a better idea of where the gaps might be. I too look at this challenge as a way to get reading more of my books that have been collecting dust on my shelves for years!
Hey Kirsten, so lovely to see familiar faces in this challenge as well :) And good luck Dima with your new job and whatever your new life holds for you :)

I just wanted to let y'all know that I won't be online much in the next week since I'm going on vacation tomorrow, but I'll definitely try to check in and see what's new if I get the chance :)
Have fun Christina! :) We still have about 16 days until the challenge starts. I won't be online too often either, I have exams and trying to figure out what to do with my life lol
Hey team, just checking in on my holiday to see how everyone's doing :) do you have any books you want to finish before the challenge starts? Also got reminded of Daniela today since there's a little bookshelf in our hotel lobby and guess what I stumbled across - Stephen King ;)
Thanks! I got home a few hours ago, and of course - as always - I bought new books at the airport x)
Almost made plans to go to the cinema next Thursday, but then I realized it'll be Feb 1, oops! My friend takes part in the uno challenge as well though, so she understands haha! We're sneaking in the movie on Wednesday evening now, so we can both focus on the challenge when it starts ;)
I have so many books I am part way through that I'd love to get done before the challenge officially begins. Will see where I get on those. I'm getting super distracted lately with Sims: Free Play on my phone & testing out my new Instant Pot lol. (I promise to be around much more often when we get rolling than I am now. )
Can’t wait to start playing. I am planning on rereading Mother Earth Father Sky series. I know it can count for a 5 card. Authors name Sue Harrison. Not sure where else it will count. 1for 1st in a series. Once we start i am wondering if we put the books in when we start reading or after we finish reading. I know for the first few books i will more that likely need help.

I posted the book posting layout in the first few comments in this group, but will give you an example just before we start so everyone can see how finished books should be posted :) Once you finish a book you post it in here with the cards it fits. The co-captains and I will fill it in our spreadsheet, so you don't need to worry about it.
Usually towards the end of the month we'll discuss which cards we really need to finish a hand, and encourage the group to find those certain books. But overall, just read whatever you want without worrying too much about the cards, as long as it fits one criteria :)
6 days and 21 hours to go btw.. Which time does it start for you all? :) for me the official start will be 7pm on the 1st :(
I think Tina just clicked the wrong thread as she wasn't added to our Team Members list in message 1 or anywhere. I just sent her a message to let her know :)
Kirsten wrote: "I have so many books I am part way through that I'd love to get done before the challenge officially begins. Will see where I get on those. I'm getting super distracted lately with Sims: Free Play ..."just abandon the ones you're unable to finish before the challenge starts until after it's over haha! I haven't even started a new book because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to finish it and would be too confused in May lol
I was playing The Sims 4 last night actually. until 4:40am x)
Daniela wrote: "6 days and 21 hours to go btw.. there's also a Frequently Asked Questions post in the Q&A thread now which we have linked in the first few messages as well should you be looking for it at a later point :)
Are you ready?? The start of UNO is just around the corner!!
To while away the time a little as we're waiting for the countdown to run out, you could help Snoopy increase his tiny TBR pile and give him some recommendations on what to read next.

Just swing by THIS THREAD for more information and some awesome recommendations. You might just meet your next favourite book!
hey team!please please post your recommendations in the Snoopy thread since lots of us have a very strong feeling that this will have to do with a mini challenge sooner or later ;)
⌛ on another note, Feb 1 is getting closer and closer which means the start of the uno challenge is almost here! I hope this thread will be busier then ;) have you already made plans which book(s) to read first?
I posted in the recommendations thread. I know which book I'm reading first.
I chose it to start off the month because it will take care of the 1 Red card in hand 2, and can be used as one of the Draw 2s in that hand because it will also fulfill the 2 card.

Got a few I'm thinking of posting there just narrowing it down. I have some plans as well on what to read. I'm thinking Norse Mythology to start with for one of the reverse cards since Jenny has read it already and I have not. We have quite a few reverse cards and I was planning on reading it in February even before joining the challenge so the fact that it fits is a bonus. I'm going to take a closer look tonight and tomorrow to plan at least one or two more that I can do.
I have books to read that cover all of the cards in the first hand. Since I intend to read all of them anyway, I can aim for filling in any gaps that we have. Skip- The Power by Alderman
WD4 (red3)-Hag Seed by Atwood
8- The Sunlight Pilgrims by Egan
Rev- Artemis by Weir - Mary has read this.
WD4 (skip)- Before Evil by Kava
5- Into the Water by Hawkins
3- Holding Up the Universe by Niven
I have titles chosen for the next couple of hands as well.
Comments? Suggestions?
Nikki, Norse Mythology is really good. I would recommend it.
my suggestion is to read whatever you want to :) don't focus too much on filling up hand per hand. We'll focus on that towards the end of each month to see what we really are missing :) most important cards to consider are the coloured ones. The rest are easy peasy I'm sure :D
Here's an example of how the books you read should be posted once you finish one: Book:
Author: J.K. Rowling
Date Completed: 02/02/
All cards it works for:
1 - 1 in series
3 - Character named Hermione
6 - Character named Severus Snape
7 - Character named Voldemort
Skip - Character named Harry Potter
Make sure to post every card the book might fit :)
Christina wrote: "here's the countdown again. the challenge begins at 7pm aest (australian eastern standard time) which will be 9am over here in Austria (gmt+1), Daniela hahahaha!"Ok so I am at GMT-4 (until March when it switches to gmt-3 ugg!) so I'll be starting at 4am?! ouch
Christina wrote: "Kirsten wrote: "I have so many books I am part way through that I'd love to get done before the challenge officially begins. Will see where I get on those. I'm getting super distracted lately with ..."Hah abandoning partially read books is definitely happening. (most of my current half-read books have been set aside at least once for awhile now already). Other than one book I am reading now for my book club (Son of a Trickster) that meets on Feb 3rd. Going to do my best to get it completed before Uno begins.
My start time is 3:00 a.m. my time. Not happening! After work, or start with Audible in the morning as I’m getting ready for work.,
